- Newcastle United could finish 6th and ONLY qualify for the CONFERENCE LEAGUE next season. This video EXPLAINS the possible scenarios NUFC face regarding which European competition - Europa League OR Conference League - they will be playing in the 2024/25 season, should they finish 6th or 7th in the Premier League.

Would it bother you if Man Utd won the FA Cup and make it so NUFC could only qualify for the Europa Conference?
Yes I rather play Rangers, Napoli, Frankfurt, Real Socidead, Athletico Bilbao etc than Hearts, Zurich, Rosenborg, Lech Poznan, Genk etc
No as that would mean we will have started a cup run of cup runs. Win the least desirable first, the most desirable after.
I want what’s best for the club which is probably Europa but we stand more of a chance of winning conference as you don’t get Champions League drop outs join in half way!

I am amazed that we are in the European reckoning given the injuries we have endured this season. We still have targets and so it will be an excitjng end (theoretically) to the season for us.
I think it shows how we're not that far away from top 4 if we can keep people fit & strengthen key areas

Agree we need to win something but no reason it can't be the EuropaC.
With a full squad and a few additions we could be mighty. Got to think that PSG and Dortmund are now CL semi finalists. Thinking that Dortmund will be in the final. We did get out played in both legs, but not by much and with a depleted team...and PSG one thrashing and a draw (in my mind anyway).
Agree it will also be down played in media if it's not Manua or Liver but it does have cred and can help keep our 2 super stars from having their heads turned.

If we get conference, I think that’s our first trophy in decades (minus the Championship) but obviously, would rather Europa, where we’d still have a chance of going very far… happy with either really.
The thing that sticks is the idea of Man Utd trumping us because of a dodgy penalty win over City. Can just imagine how smug they’ll be.

What if Villa takes home the Conference League but they finish 5th in the Prem, doesnt that mean their Europa league spot from the prem gets bumped down one position or does it not matter at all?
They’d qualify for their league position. Their conference slot is merely a bonus (for them alone) if they finished out

Interestingly our 3 next games are Palace, Sheffield and Burnley. And man utd next 3 games are Sheffield, Burnley and Palace. Therefore to be save we need all 9 points because man utd face liverpool after Palace

There seems to be quite a few who like the idea of conference league for various reasons.
I am fine with conference to be honest
I’ll be happy with either - back to back European seasons is not to be sniffed at - but I’d prefer Europa.
I think it is pretty safe to disregard any scenario which involves Manchester United beating Manchester City in any game.
Next year we will finish:
3rd in league
Win Carabao Cup
Quarter final Out FA Cup
Win Europa Conference League

Yes if Man City win the FA Cup, Newcastle will be in the Conference League. If Man Utd win the FA Cup, Newcastle miss out on Europe and Chelsea get Conference League as Man Utd would take the Europa slot.

Can’t Newcastle take 5th if we won all our remaining games, I understand Tottenham would have to go on a major losing spree but Tottenham have to play the top teams still. If we win all our games we could get to 68 points, if as I predict Tottenham lose there games against the top teams I can see them only getting 6 points which will take them to 66 points, am I missing something.

What happens if spurs get 4th CL
And villa get 5th and automatically get Europa
And then villa win the conference league
That will free up another Europa spot
No because Villa’s conference league Europa slot is only for them. And because they’ll finish in the top 5 they’ll take the PL Europa slot. Villa’s conference league Europa slot is not passed on to the league positions.

Nothing. The ‘bonus’ Europa league spot for winning the conference would ONLY be for Villa. And would only need to be used if they didn’t qualify for Europe via the league position. It is not passed down in the league at all.
That extra Europa spot has to go to a team from somewhere though, would it be an extra place in the conference league for the premier league table? Also, what happens if ManUre win but finish 6th, would the conference spot definitely drop to 7th? @@iansmithfootball
I think it's to the runner up of the Conference League or if they've already qualified too I guess it'd just be allocated to the next best team across Europe - how UEFA calculate that I'm not sure.
At least chances are there. Howay the Lads. About my pride, Yellow-Green Army Fortuna Sittard they blew their chances for Conference league playoffs so the league is over. Just finish as high as possible.

Yes. 7th is conference league regardless of if Man Utd or Man City win FA cup.
