Amazing! I ran camera for the live stream for this show! Myself, and two other friends from Real Networks were are the crew for the live stream. This was my camera angle, I shot this! for this tour they had four massive cameras, one trained on each member of the band, that was turned into black and white, and put on massive screens above the stage. This was obviously not one of those. But mine was this wider angle shot. In the user interface you could pick which angle you wanted to watch, including two, 360° cameras that we set on the stage and you could pivot the angle yourself from the player. Plus an audio only stream, made for eight different streams to choose from. I remember crawling through the rafters of this arena at Notre Dame running an ethernet hard line specifically for this broadcast, and being over the stage during sound check and thinking “I hope I don’t drop anything or sneeze while I am up here over the band! “And when I got to our broadcast operation center under the bleachers, I had only five more feet of our 500 foot spool remaining. There were multiple challenges in getting the broadcast together, but we managed to overcome all of them in the nick of time. We also got to interview the crew and shoot a tour under the stage. The Edge is their QA person, and we were asked to shoot the soundcheck so he could review the quality before the broadcast went live. So after soundcheck, I had edited together some of the highlights of sound check and in walks The Edge with about 30 people from U2.com in tow. He sticks out his hand and says “Hi, I’m The Edge.” I said “I know!” like the nervous superfan I am! He listened to my edit twice and then slowly nodded and smiled and said “… I think we have a show!” The entire room let out an exhale of relief that our months of prep had paid off! He was a humble Buddha of a guy. I was told that the audio from my camera would not be used in the broadcast, and I did roll a back up tape just in case, and when I played it back later, I realized I was singing along at the top of my lungs through the entire show! 😂 The broadcast won a Yahoo best of the Internet award for 2001. Definitely one of the peak experiences of my life. I could write an entire book about that event.
My mom and dad took me, my older brother and sister to this show. I was 10 years old and I thought this was an amazing show. After that night in October 2001, I realized God blessed me with the coolest parents and siblings in the world. RIP Matt
Habe to sag that in 2022… this Kind of Video Quality is absolutely enough. No ohne needs 8K/UHD in the Energy / Power etc.. is Right. Love that Show. Me- 80s kid. 2022 f..k off.
Eh, I don't know about that. I think Coldplay is probably a more popular band right now. I mean they've had 4 number 1 singles and sold twice as many records as U2 has this decade.... The torch was passed to Coldplay I think. But.... I mean from 1987 to like 2009ish U2 were in fact the biggest, most popular rock band on Earth. That's amazing if you think about it.
I was at this show and I think my seat was somewhere in front of this view. Worked at a nightclub in South Bend and someone gifted my boss 2 tickets. He took me. The energy and love inside that smaller venue after 9/11 is something I'll #neverforget Best show I've ever been to. Thank you for sharing!! ...Also saw Dennis Rodman's 1st exhibition game w/ the Bulls here too against Shawn Kemp and the Supersonics
@GN it was on campus so I wouldn't be surprised.. we drove from Cincinnati to see it, with $30 "obstructed view" tickets 🤣 we spent the whole day walking around Southbend trying to find better tickets with no luck. Then with 10 minutes till the show started, we were on our way in and there was a guy with floor tickets for sale at face value! Ended up right at the tip of the heart, right on the barrier. Bono and Edge sang Staring at the Sun literally right in front of us 🤘 truly epic day ✌️
It is hard to believe this show happened almost 20 years ago. I remember watching the livestream like it was yesterday! This was prob the best show of the 3rd leg as well.
University of Notre Dame ACC (South Bend IN USA) I sat stage left past the left gangway just a few rows up in the bleachers. A friend of mine worked for the ticket company at the time and called me the day before saying the band just released some tickets and I could buy up to six, but got only two since I couldn't find enough persons who could make it on short-ish notice. Twenty years already...
20 years ago today this show happened. It’s amazing to see on youtube. I wasn’t at this show. I didn’t get to see U2 until 10 years later in Philadelphia during the 360° tour though. The band sounds amazing here.
Besides the New York shows that year and the Super Bowl the following, this is definitely one of their best shows ever, maybe one of the most moving concerts ever recorded.
I was 12 when this happened and really wanted to go. I tried to win tickets by calling into a local radio station contest. They were looking for caller #93 I think, but I was #2. My family had just gotten a cell phone, and I waited by the radio all day with the number pre-dialed. Apparently, I was too fast! So glad to finally see what this concert looked like 20 years later.
Later on during this leg of the tour (we were at the Tampa show on 12-01-2001), they 360 projected the names of the 9/11 victims, instead of the song lyrics - much like they did during the Super Bowl a couple months later, just immersively. I'll never forget it.
This is probably the pro-shot I have listen to the most. I remember I got it first time from the mule back in the day. Killer concert, Killer album, Killer Live Band. Thanks a million for the upload!!
Looks like it was a really great show and a really wonderful experience for the audience. This happened not long after 9/11. God bless U2 for pulling out this kind of energy, from themselves and their crowd, at this time, in the Heartland of the U.S.
Bono’s voice sounds slightly tired, Adam’s bass is somewhat trebly, though great sound and a solid show. Particularly on ‘Kite’, the Edge makes the beginning sound like both a keyboard and a guitar playing. U2 rarely disappoint live. 42:05
Maybe all those in South Bend hadn't even heard 75% to 80% of the songs. They were expecting beautiful day and elevation, and some songs from the Pop album.
An upgraded version of this video is now available here: ua-cam.com/video/WzZGI1sV03s/v-deo.html Upscaled and deinterlaced to 1080p60. The upscale process gained some very nice clarity and smoothness. Enjoy!
Saw this concert in Lexington Ky 5/4/2001… it was unusually loud… couldn’t hear for 4 days. If your gonna lose your hearing, then I’m content with U2 as last thing I ever heard. There exists one video from that concert. Poor quality and its a hidden camera. And just as I had remembered it, as they were walking on stage the base was incredibly loud… it rattled your insides.. i’ve always wondered if they didn’t realize they were so loud that night because they were playing in Rupp Reno, which is one of the largest indoor arenas ever built? It’s funny to watch the video because obviously it’s a hidden camera cause back then you weren’t supposed to bring any cameras in… they would actually check you as you came through to see if you had any video cameras and now everybody films a concert with their phone.

Where the Streets have No Name is quite possibly the greatest rock song ever written. At least in the last 40 years.
Yo tal ves encuentre lo que busco
It is… when they opened the Joshua Tree Tour with it back in 1987 it was the most beautiful thing I’d ever heard. Still one of to this day!
Habe to sag that in 2022… this Kind of Video Quality is absolutely enough. No ohne needs 8K/UHD in the Energy / Power etc.. is Right. Love that Show. Me- 80s kid. 2022 f..k off.
Still the biggest band on earth 2021/2022

This was the first show after the World Trade Center was destroyed. Such an amazing performance.
