- Did you know where the agar-agar in your favourite dessert comes from? The answer lies in Rameswaram, where we join women divers on their quest for seaweed
While the men went fishing, the women collected seaweed.
Used for making agar-agar, the marikolundhu variety is sought after, and the women of Rameswaram go to great lengths to collect a sackful, which will probably end up in a bowl of payasam hundreds of kilometres away.
The women casually march into the water - the sea bed is lined with slippery coral; this is their workplace for the next two hours. They will scour underwater for seaweed, some varieties of which are also used in the pharmaceutical industry and to make fabric dyes.

Dude these courageous womens r from tamizh nadu. Actually amma (ama) means mother in thamizh language...Japanese nd tamizh language have some links.....

Poor women's Hard-working is equal to men's work, they're equally strengthen has men's..they stand like a man to take care their family..for their hungry and to make their children's educate ..in some of the poor family the man's drinks never help the woman

Because all foreign corporate companies landed here to exploit all our resources(mining, dewatering river, ground water) and dumping all industrial waste in land and polluting it into our river itself
Kishore Kumar Indian authorities are polluting their own rivers. They throw trash, garbage, sewage into the same river they worship as mother. Stop blaming outsiders for everything.

The problems of India are of cosmic proportions so progress is slow. We will get there, Nevertheless.Maybe India lacks in hygiene and cleanliness but humanity thrives here against all odds.
