Hello, I just bought a boat with a 82 tower of power. I ran it once everything was good. I put it back in the water yesterday and after cranking for a while I realized the run switch was off, after switching it to run the tilt and the starter won't work. I took apart the control and saw nothing wrong. Any suggestions?
I would get a voltmeter and wiring diagram and start checking voltages in the motor. On mine the 12 volts comes from the battery up to the motor connector then out to the mercontrol.
i have an 83, put a new stator in it, voltage/regulator rectifier, starter, plugs, make sure your fuel lines are tight so top cylinders dont run lean, replace the water pump, and most of all make sure your battery is good!
What exactly is the harness called i need a new one.
So mine does not have a cdi box and runs without it but is a 1962 I rebuilt my harness
I'm going to be talking on a boat with a 74 mercury outboard. Is it going to be problematic to get parts for it??
Lots of parts are still available, and some of the parts discontinued by mercury are available aftermarket.
@@stevewatr Thank you Sir

What's the age of that motor? A lot of late 70's through mid 80's Volvo 240's have their engine wiring insulation fall apart like that.
+FrankTheCat The old Johnson outboards had the same issues, so it appears to be endemic of many older outboards.
