The description shows more experiments that I did with this chip, say in 2023. That CD 74 HCT 4046 AE Chip is a VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) combined with a PLL (phase locked loop) circuit.
I only know the PLL principles via the radio/electronics theory, but, furthermore, I don’t know how to apply them in practice. Thus I have to study that better to show a (say) working circuit on YT.
And that is always my aim: showing electronics circuits on YT that are tested and work. For everyone interested.
This video is only a VLOG, where I show how I am experimenting again (17 June 2024) with this 74 HCT 4046 chip.
Trying to get a square wave oscillator into the (say) 2 MC range. Or push it into that HF range.
Only a VLOG without a schematic, but when everything works fine I will show the square wave oscillator schematic made with this chip. Like showed in earlier video’s (see the links).
It perfectly works up to (say) 800 KC. But I want to get to higher frequencies, in the order of 2 MC. The price of this extremely good chip to make a square wave oscillator (0,2 Hertz - 900 KC for sure) is very low, say 2 Dollars.
    Earlier video’s about this “project”:

NB: in that video I did not mention properly the use of the CD 74 HCT 4046 AE Chip. Read the textbox and the “pinned” comment.
Video link to another VLOG about this circuit (2023). In the textbox of that video there are more links to other vids, where I did experiments with this VCO/PLL Chip.

My You Tube channel trailer is here: • Radiofun232 on UA-cam...
Type there the keywords that you like (e.g. radio/audio/amplifiers/test/filter/) in the “looking glass” = search function” and give “enter”. Via that you can find specific video’s (under the say 1500 published). When you search, search always “NEWEST FIRST” to get the right overview.
You can also search via the “looking glass” on my Channel trailer via keywords like ”audio”, “radio”, “amplifier”, “filter”, “Shortwave”, “transistor”, “FET”, “oscillator”, “generator”, “switch”, “schmitt trigger” etc; so the electronic subject you are interested in.
My books about electronics & analog radio technology are available via the website of "LULU”, search for author “Ko Tilman” there. www.lulu.com/s....
I keep all my YT videos constant actual, so the original video’s with the most recent information are always on UA-cam. Search there, and avoid my circuits that are republished, re-arranged, re-edited on other websites, giving not probable re-wiring, etc. Some persons try to find gold via my circuits. I take distance from all these fake claims. Upload 17 June 2024.
NB: I make my circuits by purpose in this way (brass nails on soft triplex, well varnished) to test the weakness & strength of components and electronic circuits, published everywhere, on the www. or in electronics books of the 1950's up until now. Say by making them in practice via that way. When you do that, all the weaknesses of many hobby electronics circuits published everywhere will show up. In general not in established electronics magazines, like "Elektor" or "Elektuur" and many more reliable American magazines.
Their circuits (in a kind of way) always work.
Of course this (my) concept/idea/practice only works up to frequencies of electronic circuits in the range of (say) 1 Hertz to (say) 2 Mega Hertz (MC). Aim is to get the maximum success factor for beginners in electronics. Much more info about this approach is in tens of video’s on my UA-cam Channel. 17 June 2024.
NB: I made a new circuit, 18 June 2024, made in a proper HF way, to make it work up to 1 MC - 1.5 MC but the ringing problem is still not solved, up until now. Perhaps more in the future.

O mais proximo de um VCO que montei foi um oscilador com o transistor BF494 em base comum com um diodo varicap BB119, faz muito tempo.

Just a thought: It could be something to do with your scope lead, try using X10 with a probe tip spring clip screen touching the chip 0VDC? Interesting chip.

Thanks Michael, yes, it is a part of the problem. I saw the effects of the cable. I am going to overhaul it completely, making it on piece of tinplate, with very short wiring, etc. When the ringing is still there, I will try to compensate it with small ferrites/a small coil or so. At the moment it is too sloppy and made not in a good HF way (we go to 1-2 MC), but I wanted to study it in practice. Thanks! 18 june 2024.

The chip likes a litle capacitor close to his powerlines.for stability

Yes, it is there already. Had no effect on the ringing. And higher values of such a decoupling capacitor did not work. But: like I told, the whole circuit needs a complete overhaul after all the weakness and flaws of the chip are found out, via making it in such a sloppy way, by purpose, more in the textbox.
