      To be honest I don't recall what I saw when I took the panel off. I'm sure Gibson's website will be able to shed light on that question.

      @@PaulMcCaffreyfmac Often times yes, I think it depends on the music. I'm a longtime southern rock fan, music with lots of guitar and long solos and it's not unusual for some of those long solos to not have a lot of quiet time in them, especially when there's 3 guitars going all at once, interweaving solos.

      @@uncleandyguitarherbst1157 I know what you mean.... and maybe who you mean too. Sometimes that kind of thing can be just like being at a noisy party where you can't home in on the person who might be most interesting because everyone is talking at once. I went through a phase of only playing while breathing out and not breathing in. Now that arthritis is coming and going I couldn't learn to play faster if I wanted to, but honestly, I don't want to.
      Three guitars going at it in a loud, live situation can be the most thrilling thing but when it's one bloke on youtube - which I am - I have to treat it like we are just having a quiet chat. It just makes more sense to me and it is what comes naturally to me.
      Thanks again for dropping by. Good to see you :)

      I was very excited when Gibson released them as part of their 'regular' range as I'd had a '57 which had to go when I was made redundant for the second time in my life and I couldn't afford to spring for a custom shop job. It is as much fun as the '57 and slightly lighter too :-)
      Thanks for stopping by and for the comment.

    If you’re not careful I’m gonna have to unfollow you. 😂
    The way that pedal responds is getting the GAS going. And I don’t even use drive much any more.
    I also spend a quite a lot of time in/around B flat and that little pull off lick is one that I’ve somehow managed to avoid. Not to worry, I’m fairly sure I’ll now overuse it to make up for lost time. 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

    • @PaulMcCaffreyfmac
      @PaulMcCaffreyfmac  2 роки тому +1

      Please don't unfollow me Gra. I need all the friends I can get 😊
      Unfortunately, living as I do in a flat, without pedals I'd have to do without grit, never mind full on drive and distortion sounds. The Blackstone Appliances pedal is really great to play through and probably feels more "amp-like" than most pedals that are sold on that promise. If you want a closer look you'll find a poor review in my "reviews of sorts" playlist from when I borrowed Matt's (from Monty's) to have a play with a couple of years ago.
      You jazz boys are always lurking in Bb type places where us lazy sods rarely go. Hahahaha
      The lick actually came about at the same time in the '90s when I wrote and recorded the song Magazines (also available for a listen on the "Paul's Album" playlist if you really run out of things to do) which is basically a rather dull 12 bar blues with silly words. I thought some modulation would make it more bearable, so it starts with two verses in A, then up to B and then up to Bb for the solo. the lick either came directly out of me putting myself in Bb or I had it knocking about and couldn't find a place for it anywhere. The former I suspect.
      Hammer it to death. It deserves it. Hahahahahahaha
      Thanks, as ever, for stopping by and for taking the time and trouble to comment. I appreciate it.

    Reading the comment below - I'd be more than glad to send you any repetitive bass lines that you need, Paul. Just let me know what key and tempo and I'd be happy to oblige. I can get a wide variety of tones from my basses and home recording gear!

      It's so kind of you to offer and I really appreciate it. I am completely neanderthal technology-wise so wouldn't know where to start with a bass line from somewhere else. I don't record anythng at all in the computer, it's all live in the room recorded with a Zoom camera and the uploading to youtube is as deep as I go technically.
      Also I can drop an octave, play a throwaway line on the guitar and it's good enough for me to play over and i feel no guilt about erasing it when it comes time to do another loop. To be honest I thought it sounded passable but Frank has a double bass and likes to nitpick a bit :-)
      I know full well that you would add value and quality to my wanderings so I hope you will forgive me for declining and saying, once again, thanks for the offer. I really DO appreciate it.

    I think Bb was often played by Chuck Berry and of course all those jazz-players. I like it because the open D-string is the 3rd and the open g-string the 6th in Bb major. I like to involve open strings in my playing
    Best regards and I liked what I heard although the bass-loop could have more bass-sound
    Frank

    • @PaulMcCaffreyfmac
      @PaulMcCaffreyfmac  2 роки тому

      I like open strings too which is why I usually avoid Bb. I think Chuck played in pano keys because the piano player did so much heavy lifting musically and it s a good key for horns too.
      I'm sorry you didn't approve of the 'bass' sound. It's only there because something has to be.
