    Rabbi setup a video call walk-thru of my home here in Florida with me. He went over with me the placement of all the Mezuzah's in my home. Rabbi you are amazing and thank you so much!

    Great to see you again, Rabbi! One of my favorite things about Judaism is it's total attention to detail. I am especially interested in the work of the SOFER STAM. I recently purchased my first set of Gassot Tefillin, and am purchasing my Mezuzahs this coming week!

    Thank you Rabbi Kass. For my new 18th floor apartment balcony, I had correctly placed a mezuzah on the right side, but I incorrectly considered the immobile right pane (essentially a "glass wall") as the door, which it is not. I wonder if accessibility is part of the reasoning for placement? Even if it is not, I can now easily touch the mezuzah when I go outside for morning prayers... or just to enjoy coffee! Toda raba raba raba! 👍🏼

    I live in an apartment and and can only access the porch from the apartment so I hold that I put the mezuzah on the right as I go out.

    Rabbi, may I ask why I need a mezuzah for doors going outside, i.e. to a yard? I have (non-sliding) doors that open onto flat-roof decks that can only be accessed from those bedrooms (i.e. no stairs from the ground floor). I'd have thought that the mezuzot should be place on the exterior right doorposts, i.e. entering the bedrooms from the decks. (Of course, each bedroom will have its own mezuzah from their hall entrances.) Disclaimer: the house is being restored, so isn't occupied yet. I want to make sure I get it right prior to taking occupancy. I should probably add that I have three entrances on the ground floor and had planned to place all mezuzot similarly--right hand exterior doorposts. The yard will be fully fenced, with gate.

      The reason why you would need going to the outside is because a courtyard (uvisharecha) requires a Mezuzah because the normal usage of the courtyard is without a roof similarly a balcony that is also roofless would require one.

      @@TheSoferCenter thank you, Rabbi. I might have to mortgage the house to buy all the mezuzot needed. 😢

    Thank you. Does it matter if the back entrance (into the house through the sliding door) is very seldom used, and usually people go out through the back. Or, so long as there is an opening to the front through the backdoor it's the same no matter if it's used or not, because it can be used as an entrance.

    • @TheSoferCenter
      @TheSoferCenter  Рік тому +1

      Like I mentioned in the video there are many different opinions but the one that I resonate with is that if it can be used as an entrance into the house because it's an external door it should be on the right side going in.

    What if it's a double sliding door? I've got this question..

  • @yehudagoldberg6400

    What if there is acess to the backyard, but there's no way to unlock the sliding door from the outside? Is that considered accessible?

    • @TheSoferCenter
      @TheSoferCenter  2 роки тому

      I would consider it accessible but it depends which Rov you ask, there are some who would say if that is the case that is a reason for it to go on the right side going out towards the back because it cannot be used as an entrance unless you first go out. But most don't follow that reasoning.

    The 4x4 confused me a little. I have an atrium that is 12x10 so 120 sq ft. It is closed in by 4 walls and there is 2 sliding doors to access it, one in the family room and one in the bedroom. What I figure is that because it is completely enclosed then I would put the mezuzah on the right side going out. Is that correct even though is is larger than 4x4? It can not be accessed any other way than through the home or over the roof.

    • @TheSoferCenter
      @TheSoferCenter  2 роки тому

      If you use both of those doors as a way to go into the atrium then both of them would go on the right side towards the atrium. But because you have two doors this room (atrium) can be used as an entrance way from one room to another like any room in the house, so if you find yourself going out one door but using the other door as an entrance back into the house you could possibly have one going out on the right and one going in on the right.
      It would depend how you use the doors.

      I have identical rooms on either side of the house. These rooms both have access from two doors to from other adjoining rooms. I use both of each room's doors to either enter or exit. I believe one of the rooms actually has two doors; the other room has no doors. My brain is scrambled. I might have to schedule a walk-through when it's time.

    • @TheSoferCenter
      @TheSoferCenter  2 роки тому

      Yes sometimes it could be confusing. If you would like to schedule a walk through you can find a link in the description of this video

      @@TheSoferCenter thank you, Rabbi. I'm going to wait until the house is painted so I can make pencil marks on the correct areas; if I do it beforehand, they'll be painted over and I'll be back at Square 1. 😱 I'll also be ordering mezuzot and at least outdoor cases from you.

    Thanks. Where do you put it though if both doors are able to slide open? All the way on the right side of the frame?

    • @TheSoferCenter
      @TheSoferCenter  2 роки тому

      Yes if both doors are able to slide then the frame would be the outer door frame and whatever will be considered the right side either coming in or going out you would put on the right side.

      @@TheSoferCenter Great thanks. Also if it's on the frame of the door but inside the house since that's the only place to put it with sliding doors, do you tilt it at all, or just put it vertical (since in this case there's no way you could do it horizontal anyway)?

    • @TheSoferCenter
      @TheSoferCenter  2 роки тому +1

      If you can put it horizontal that's preferable, but if you can't then you just put it up vertically.

    Hi I have double doors. I can open one or both if needed. But we only open one door left side. It can't go in-between the doors. Where does it go?

    • @TheSoferCenter
      @TheSoferCenter  2 роки тому

      If both doors are able to be opened then it will typically go on the far right as you enter. But without seeing the actual door it's very difficult to give answer with 100% certainty.

    I put them on the side opposite the door hinges. This way whether you are entering or leaving, you always have your dominate hand free to kiss the Mezuzah. I also hang it just low enough for my wife to touch it.

      If details matter in anything then yes. If details matter in how a physical car engine is put together for example then they matter in the spiritual as well.
