I like how each of the crew refers to the “Golden Guns” with such reverence. My head-canon is that they’re some kind of ancient artifact, or experimental alchemical invention that they stole, and have been exploiting the hell out of.
I think it's less likely they stole them and more likely that they were gifted them by a good friend from where they called home and said friend was likely killed by Vincent when he was a human rather than a skeleton monster from the sounds of it the pirate crew has encountered Vincent many times before long before they were searching for Posideon's breath and have been longtime rivals of his
And the only reason the Captain hasn't taken them from Eric and Leah is because the Guns are…bonded to them. Thankfully for him, they're not ambitious enough to strike out on their own.
It would be kind of neat if the treasure at the end was the two golden guns and it time loops you back to the start. It would be on brand with an arcade machine wanting you to do this over and over again.
So, a thing I noticed about the "Sword Phantom" enemy; they seem to be a shout-out to the SoulCalibur series. They resemble the iconic Zweihander design of Soul Edge complete with the eye in the middle of the blade. Also, the fact that they're wielded by pirates certainly calls to mind Cerevantes, the initial wielder of Soul Edge. Not to mention the fact the "Evil Swords Consume Souls." Dead-on for Soul Edge's M.O. itself. As another aside, the Final Boss, Captain Vincent, dual wields swords and tends to fly and teleport around. Which also might seem to be a reference Cervantes' fighting style, as his style incorporates teleportation, as well as a bit of flying. It's made by Bandai-Namco, so makes sense they'd slip a shout out in.
LARGE ENEMY CRAB also i loved the "i can't even count how many!!!" "six. there's six of them." seriously though, i love how whenever there's a crab or spider you must emphasize its size and that it is, in fact, an enemy. i see you Bexx
Really love this game. One of my favorite memories was completing the original cabinet with two friends on my birthday. We did 3-player by having one of us use the wheel exclusively. To this day one of my favorite rail shooters, I want to try one of the updated versions some day.
I am so happy to see you reviewing this! I first played this game on a cruise ship, and it is still my favorite arcade game ever, even with all of it's issues.
THANK YOU. I am so glad someone points out how annoying it is with the first mate exposition dumping how the Phatom Blade enemies work while you're fighting them XDD Good review as always.
I remember playing this game so much! I had a big Vikings and Pirates phase during my childhood thanks to How to Train your Dragon and Pirates of the Caribbean so this game shot up real high on my list of favorite arcade shooters! The way this game says “PERFECT” still lives rent free on my mind! Plus, I really love the music and the character designs. The character designs feel like the perfect mix of anime-esque but still keeping that pirate grunge, something that’s surprising rare with pirate media from Japan.
Out of all the arcade games I played, Deadstorm Pirates was one of the ones that always stuck out to me. I don't even remember where I played it or who I played it with, but I have vague fond memories of sitting in the booth with two other kids where two of us would be on guns and one on the wheel. Haven't found a machine out in the wild as of recent though, hopefully I can see one again.
Bexx I think there's a ghost trapped in a sword!!! Don't get distracted, just shoot the sword!!! But seriously, great review :) Another stellar video from Bexx. Now, a word of advice: SHOOT THE SWORD THERE'S A GHOST TRAPPED IN THE SWOR-
I feel like people who grew up with old arcade shooters like L.A Machine Guns and the first Jurassic Park arcade game that had the "non-stop, no reloading action" gameplay were very happy to play this game for the first time On another note, I really hope you tackle Dark Escape, that game was truly a unique arcade experience (it was quite literally a virtual haunted house where you can actually die)
I just remembered this game existed today, and was searching if there was anyone talking about it...uploaded *_1_* day ago. Surely, this video sent a wake-up call directly to my brain.
I love seeing stuff about older obscure or non mainstream games, your up there with mandaloregaming for me with just how calming it is to watch. Kinda video I watch once with a cup of tea and then put on the background whenever I need something to listen to while working XD
This is an arcade game that is actually nostalgic for me, I remember when I was nine and my dad and I completed the game in one run, he must have spent like forty dollars on revives.
Joseph's voice reminds me of Barry from the OG Resident Evil. Wouldn't be surprised if they shared the same actor. If the crew are indeed inspired by famous pirates/sailors from pop culture, then I think Duncan might be based on one of the harpooners from Moby Dick, such as Daggoo.
This is one of the few Railshooters I've managed to play so it was super exciting to see you finally cover it! I remember playing in one of the original sitting booth back when the FatCat's bowling alley was still in business. It was super fun playing this with my Mom and Sister as despite not generally being good at videogames they were really good shots so they enhanced this already great game! My mom helped with the first 2 levels then my sister helped with the River and the other level we did (It's been awhile so I don't remember which helped with the other 2 stages not listed here) and finally my mom came back to help take out Captain Vincent and we claim Poseidon's breath for ourselves! It's thanks to this experience that I generally gravitate to Railshooters anytime I find myself in an arcade.
Oh I remember this game. My sister really wanted to play it so we went to the local arcade that had it. we spent as much as we could on gamecards and we both spent all our credits to beat this game. It was great.
Always a good day when you drop a video! I'm hoping you cover Haunted Museum Duology someday, the protags in those games make me laugh with their cheesy dialogue.
Bexx you are awesome and I hope you are feeling better! I appreciate you and your videos! Your videos are informative and fun! You are a majestic gem of grandeur.
This was the first arcade rail-shooter I ever played, and the first one I ever finished (Pirate autistic hyperfixation go brrrr), so I'm really glad you covered it!
This is a small thing, but I really appreciate you saying it looks like a PS3 game when that’s actually true, rather than the annoyingly common “this looks like a PS1 game” people say about games that look unpolished.
Great retrospective. Still my favorite mounted turret game. Hope the new sequel, Goldstorm Pirates, will be just as good as the original and Special Edition.
YEESSS OMG I WAS WAITING FOR THIS AFTER YOU MADE THE LET'S GO GAME RETROSPECTIVES!!! These three games are literally what I gun for (pun intended) every time I go to an arcade and are a big part of my childhood as I used to play them with my mom and we had fun every time!! (Funnily enough I always did the button qtes and steering wheel qtes) and I'm so happy you finally tackled the last one I love!! (P.S I haven't watched the video yet but will do know and I'll express my thoughts after!!) Anyways THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR AMAZING REVIEWS BEXX!!!!!!
Good to see a new video of this channel, i know some times the difrece in the amount of vews from video to video can be hard but you cover a lot of rigth skills, this reviews are done with very good coallity so keep going because what you are doing with this channel is talent
This game was kinda a bop. Unfortunately the one we had at my Arcade was old as hell and kept having part failures. After a while it got more expensive to fix it than it was worth and it ended up going to the big Arcade in the sky. Im certain the cab still exists somewhere in another Round1, or got sold off to a collector or vendor, but it's sad to see it go.
Another Banger video Bexx. I couldn't believe the Sword Ghost part, is like they recorded all those lines and decided "screw it, we are gonna use them all"
I love these kinds of retrospectives. Just to add some information, the Random Anime Character at 50:27 is the Chinese Splash Art for Original Gangplank from League of Legends.
I live this game I played the special edition with the movement setting and air blowers and all that this was an awesome game it all so had a sky level with a bird boss and the old city level
there's this rail shooting arcade i saw on UA-cam and it was published by IGS in Japan called monster eye. there was a special edition for monster eye but the name was changed to monster eye 2
@@BexxReviewsit's been in testing for a year now! annoyingly haven't had the chance to play it myself so far as it hasn't been trialled in europe yet, or appeared at any amusement industry trade events outside of japan, but it should be out in arcades before the end of 2024
Y'know, after doing some research on this throwback of a game, I learned something interesting about one of the game's characters. And i gotta say, I'm surprised-
Oh man…this is great stuff. I played this game with my buddy Game Overlord V. He played the game for a on-rails game marathon. Fun times. REALLY wish there was an easy way to play the special edition😭👍🏻
One of the rail shooters of all time not quite sure what it has, but it has alot of it I was not expecting to see Birdramon from Digimon as a inspiration for a boss great vid as always 🙂
I play this a lot when I go to the beach and I really like rail shooters since I grew up with a lot of them. I wish that in my younger days they would have given us sequals to some others such as crypt killer, and some law enforcement ones that I can’t remember the names but you get new guns by shooting crates similar to virtua cop which is a great one since it started the series. I hope we get a lot more as the years go on even if they do go VR and I would like to see virtua cop come back as well as silent scope and target terror.
This arcade game was really good. Though I hate the parts where you need to turn the wheel constantly to fill up the gauge or steer because no matter how fast I try turning the wheel I could never get the gauge filled up or make turns on time.
Have not seen this game in at least 10 years, pretty sure they stopped making them ages ago and my usual arcade spots removed them in favor of the twd or other rail shooters This one was so cool
god i remember this game, when i went to go visit my grandparents, since they lived in a massive city, me and my brother would play this game whenever we went to the mall. the mall in my hometown also has the booth version. i think i once saw the special edition in person, the bird and frogs seemed familiar to me along with the skull keys. in any case the Spanish language versions of the machine have a neat thing, the levels are labeled by difficulty, with the river rapids and starting level being "for beginners" and the cave level being "the hardest one". additionally if i recall correctly, in some versions of the arcade machine, you could go to the final level after beating any one level outside the starting ship. i dont think i ever took advantage of that, and i remember loosing to the final boss's first phase as kid and running out of tokens. it makes me kind of happy to know i'm not the only one who experienced these really fun arcade games.

excellent review, but you forgot to mention that he's a ghost trapped in a sword, you have to shoot the sword
I hate and love this comment at the same time
I went Bexx reviews to review igs pirate revenge arcade game.
@@JosephGames2006 And maybe she can do a retrospective on the Endless Ocean games.
Good point, but you forgot to mention that you shouldn't be fooled, aim at the sword
his body is just a sham👴🏻

@@alexconn7473 Another interesting theory.
And the only reason the Captain hasn't taken them from Eric and Leah is because the Guns are…bonded to them. Thankfully for him, they're not ambitious enough to strike out on their own.
Well they are fully automatic infinity pistols, I'd revere them if they existed in real life too tbf
It would be kind of neat if the treasure at the end was the two golden guns and it time loops you back to the start. It would be on brand with an arcade machine wanting you to do this over and over again.
I don’t think I’ll ever not find bad arcade game dialogue funny and charming. There’s just something about it that makes it perfect
Its the "so bad its good" delivery
I still think Goldman's voice work from house of the dead 2 is just peak.
You should do a railgun arcade game iceberg. That would be cool to see.
So, a thing I noticed about the "Sword Phantom" enemy; they seem to be a shout-out to the SoulCalibur series.
They resemble the iconic Zweihander design of Soul Edge complete with the eye in the middle of the blade. It's made by Bandai-Namco, so makes sense they'd slip a shout out in.
It explains why the NPC doesn't shut up about it, they actively want you to realize the reference.
You also have to shoot the sword, the body's just a sham.
I really like this arcade game
And I love how you said “large enemy crab”
And “GIANT ENEMY FALSE CRAB”

We need more butter for that crab
LARGE ENEMY CRAB

"six. there's six of them."

Why is "The sounds of Patrick Star mid-coetus" actually the best possible description of that yelling💀
I hate the mental image that brings to mind and the worst part is how accurate it is.
2 things. Either Patrick is stuck to Duncan and is along for the ride, or Patrick is experiencing CBT
