    Not gonna lie, the scene of Stark being scared by the guy with the axe was the funniest part of this episode. I just love the animation style of this anime because it's so stunningly beautiful.

      Stark getting scared and fainting seems to be a recurring theme in the series and I am here for it. 😂 His hallucination with the berry special was something else.

    Heiter noticed the mana compression. He also remembered what Frieren taught him there and passed the learning onto Fern.

    9:00 If I remember correctly, elves are often shown as not being all that interested in romance or physical desires. They're usually more into deep stuff like art, wisdom, and spirituality. Plus, they tend to live for like forever, so they might see relationships as kind of temporary compared to their long lives. Also, their societies often have rules or traditions that don't put a big emphasis on romance. And, they're usually pretty good at keeping their emotions in check. Also, just like pandas, they usually doesn't have a lot of libido so ...
    9:49 I believe that in that period common people often introduced themselves by their given name followed by their title or occupation, as surnames were not universally used, and titles conveyed social status and professional identity.

      The way that Kraft and Frieren were both so chill about meeting another elf and the potential of elves becoming extinct😭. I thought the name introductions were interesting and agree, it seems like a practical way of sharing your identity.

      the elves may still have some desire to preserve their lineage considering Frieren grew up in an elf village, they still have a desire to pass on their experiences, wisdom and such to another elf (remember that kraft is interested in Frierens earlier experiences prior to the hero party journey). probably will take more than a thousand yrs or so since it looks like elves here really like to travel to gain experiences and wisdom.

    7:30 I thought Stark's weakness was kind of weird too at first, but when you think about it, it does kinda make sense. Fern has spent half her life following after Miss "Let's just walk through a blizzard" Frieren, so she's probably used to traveling in bad weather, while Stark seems to have spent most of his life either in his master's house or near a village where he could stay nice and warm whenever it got cold.
    11:05 "Why does it seem that Fern's always freezing here?" It's cause Frieren stole all the blankets lol.

    This episode felt like a warm season finale somehow. The soundtrack was so good here too! Stark's scenes here were so funny. 😂 How would you introduce yourself in the world of Frieren?

    From how the other elves we meet treat her, Frieren is quite young by elf standards. The tree swing in her village was probably made for her.

    Prior to the genocide, the elves were capable of maintaining small settlements. Afterward, given how rarely they cross paths, the species is effectively extinct, so the genocide was successful. The survivors are so few in number they seem to have lost all sense of community.

      Such a tragedy. I hope we see more elves or some hope that the elves are able to reunite again. I am surprised we do not see more vengeful elves considering what happened with the demons. Frieren has a grudge against demons but even then it is not like she is 100% devoted only for revenge.

      @@SnuggleswithVy They've given up on maintaining a culture separate and distinct from regular humans and now perceive themselves as long-lived humans. And that is basically how humans seem to perceive them as well. Thanks to their extreme life spans, they easily acquire status in human society, if they wish. But they don't believe that elves can accomplish much on their own anymore. They act through humanity instead. It's a good thing that they are so readily accepted in human society.
      At least, that's how it seems to me, as a viewer.
      Frieren was hyper-fixated upon revenge for a long time. The act of suppressing one's mana for centuries just to kill demons more easily is practically psychotic in its single-mindedness. But eventually she started prioritizing other things, and the suppression became habitual instead.
      And also, I think elves just lack the strength to seek revenge now, as a whole. The demons lost their king, but they're still powerful and numerous enough.

    Well, Stark lost a lot of blood in his fight, even if the wounds were healed, and to heat the body in cold weather your need the heart to pump as much blood as possible to the head, legs, arms… so he is weakened.

      At the same time Ferm isn’t a sheltered city girl, she’s grown in the countryside with an old man, doing physical labor since she was a kid, carrying water, fetching wood for cooking, etc… think of a girl in a farm before the industrial revolution.

    I still don’t know the lifespan of the elves in this anime, but from Kraft’s comments, he seems quite long lived. His question to Frieren when he asked what she was before she was a mage gives me the impression that perhaps take on different roles in their long lifetimes to do and experience different things. Like, you could be a mage for a thousand years, then a healer/doctor for another thousand, then a fighter/archer for the next thousand, etc. Kraft may be a monk now, but he could have been something else before, and no one remembers his great deeds of the past.

    Regarding elf and demon similarities, I think in this episode you see muted emotions are more a mage thing than an elf or demon thing, as Kraft is quite expressive. There is a reason for this, but that edges into spoiler territory.
    And yes, a thousand years ago there were elf villages, but after being targeted by the Demon King I think it's fair to say what few elves remain don't really have a culture anymore. Assuming they ever did. This series is pretty unusual as the elves are essentially integrated with and treated as part of humanity (and hence follow the same laws).

    • @SnuggleswithVy
      @SnuggleswithVy  4 місяці тому

      I did notice Kraft was more expressive and was wondering if that was due to his age (he seems much older than she is). The way there doesn't seem to be any friction between elves and the rest of humanity is interesting.

I love food and look the part *insert heiter laugh* i loved all the analogies you made about elves and them being weird, like pandas, and having adult style friendships. You're thinking of Shaolin (and warrior) monks. In general and in case of Kraft, being a monk isn't at all about martial arts but rather about faith, spirituality and following the teachings of the Goddess. His physique mostly comes from his time/training before becoming a monk.

    • @SnuggleswithVy
      @SnuggleswithVy  4 місяці тому +1

      Ah true. I forgot adventurers is an actual occupation in the series. I am surprised they haven't bumped into other adventurerers as they go towards the End. I would've have thought they would have encountered more groups with similar destinations.

      @@SnuggleswithVy I think that also ties in with his incredible age if he's even older than Frieren. He probably has to believe in something divine because nothing else lasts that long.
