  • There are times I go a couple weeks without driving the C5 and forget to place it on a tender only to be greeted with a dead battery. With this remote kill switch I can just push a button a walk away. Enjoy.

    The problem with a battery cutoff on any vehicle controlled by a PCM, ECM the electronics will have to relearn and drivability will be an issue for the first 15-20 miles and the clock will have to be reset each time. On C6 and later Vetts the power windows will need to be reset. This or any cutoff will work just fine on older vehicles.

    • @VetOnVettes
      @VetOnVettes  2 роки тому +5

      A C6 I would be weary about doing it. A C7+ I do not recommend. I unplug the battery often on my C5 (always working on it) the only reset I notice is the AC controls and the HUD. The PCM etc is all tuned specifically and does not deviate.

      @@VetOnVettes Your memorized settings, such as mirrors, radio station favorites, steering wheel positions, and RKE will not work again until you make the effort to reprogram them. I agree with the poster that the PCM has to relearn, especially for idle and top performance. I am knowledgeable about C5s, having owned it for almost 20 years, and have all 3 factory service manuals. There are many things affected by disconnecting the battery. IMHO, this is the worst way to keep your C5 battery fully charged.

    The problem with something like this is by disconnecting your battery the car has to relearn itself in the computer every time you disconnect the battery. There are some items that don’t reset right away where putting on some good mileage is required to do the reset. Not for me. I rather continued to use my Battery Tender Junior when I store my C5 or C6 for that matter.

    Thank you for vid on this product. Now you've got my wheels turning, no pun intended, as to how I would use this product on my C6 GS. Talk about parasitic draw. The Vette's computers are always "talking" to one another, and we have no idea what the devil they're talking about!?

    You have to park the car with it in Reverse. This shuts down the electronics in the Car. If you do not park it in reverse, this is why your battery is draining. I have a 2003 C5 Z06 and my battery has never been drained. Always park it in reverse.

    Well, that was insightful and I'm sure some will find it useful. Regardless though - and perhaps it's just those like me who abhor things that look utterly 'janky'. Personally, I would have cleanly addressed the mount tab with either a serrated or heated blade... or even a dremel. Just knowing things like were on my car would bug me and therefore simply wouldn't be there. Thank you for the video - doc

    Haven't owned my C5 long (6 months) but had dead battery once after sitting for 2 months with the key left in ignition. Recently I've left it sitting for roughly 2 weeks, no key in ignition and no charger and started fine. Wondering if key left in ignition causes battery drain?

    I replaced ALL incandescent bulbs and lamps with LED bulbs to reduce energy draw and waste that happens every time you open a door or hatch. My C5 is a daily driver, so it is very rare to leave car for days or weeks unattended. If going for a week or two, I just unscrew one of the battery cables quick and easy. The product you are using looks like made in china junk. Hope it works well for you!

    I'm an electronics tech the only caveat I see is that it needs to take in interferences which could possibly turn it off. That would be real bad at highway speeds. Lol. Or a small kid pressing the second remote or something else random. XD

    • @VetOnVettes
      @VetOnVettes  2 роки тому +1

      I thought of that too 🫣🥴. Luckily no kids drive with me and the keys sit on the other seat. As far as the relay spontaneously shutting off is a concern. Worst case I coast and hardwire it back 😐

      @@VetOnVettes That would be a cruel trick to play on your spouse. Just let her take the car to the gas station or grocery store and wait out of sight. When she calls just say are you sure and turn it on and off. Lol. Or a single guy could use it to his advantage with the old "my car won't start". Here you try the key... XD

    Hello, I have a issue that I believe you may be able to help me with, I recently installed the exact same model push button start as you on my 1999 C5 and it started and ran fine for about a week then I let the car sit for about 3 days without driving it and when I went to start it it started very ruff and all types of code commands start to pop up on the display before it cut off, I knew immediately what it was it was my battery drained after sitting for three days and my alternator wasn’t able to keep up the charge being so low since then I have pulled the battery (New red top optima) recharged it to 100% reinstalled it and started the car, everything seems to be fine except one major issue, I now have that wait 10 seconds and pull key command my steering wheel doesn’t lock up because I believe the previous owner had the lock pulled and motor disabled but with that wait 10 seconds command on it won’t let me drive the car over 2 mph without cutting off any suggestions on how to clear it?

    Wouldn't this relay cut off all power to the car and cause things like having to reset all your radio stations and other things that depend on a little 12V power when the car is off?

    • @VetOnVettes
      @VetOnVettes  2 роки тому

      Good question. I have an aftermarket head unit (internal battery) and a unique Engine tune that does not deviate. The only thing I find myself having to adjust is the HUD settings. But it's a non-issue for me. I would not recommend this in a newer car 2010+ as there are waaay too many little computers and gadgets that reply on the constant 12v. But for an older car giving you a head it's a reliable fix.

    Ahhhhhh No... not a good idea IMHO. After you diagnose your car for unacceptable parasitic drains, fit a battery tender with a quick disconnect and simplify your life.

    • @VetOnVettes
      @VetOnVettes  Рік тому

      Man I was chasing an intermittent parasitic drain for over a year. If let the car sit more than 3 days it was dead. But sometimes 2 weeks it was fine. I would chase a ground.. clean it up & it was good. Then a week later back. Took it to a reputable shop to diagnose.. they were at a loss. Instead of throwing money in the vast hole I threw this guy on and have been headache free ever since! Bonus when working on the car as much as I do it's nice to hit a button to disconnect the battery.
