thank you so much for this video! i am SOOOO happy i found you! i recently finished esthetician school this month and honestly, my school sucked and my teacher wasn't the best or most helpful either.. but it was the most affordable option for me and what worked best for me and my schedule and hey! it worked out bcus I am now a licensed esthetician! lol 🤣 but what you said is true, the schools only prep you for state boards and teach you the basic of the basics and like most beauty industry related journeys, you learn as you GROW! I am currently still working my corporate america job bcus im not financially able to fully dive into my new esti career but i am literally in the same boat as you were, getting ready to set up an at-home studio to get some traction and looking into salon suite options in the very near future bcus same i don't want strangers in my home lol anyways, i say all that to say this -- PLEASE continue to post videos, i love that you are relatable and straight-forward about your journey, we need more people like you! i love your upcoming video ideas, backbar updates, budgeting & expenses, startup FYIs, etc and i can't wait for them to come! ❤❤ THANK YOU!!!!!!
This video was so informative, I was really going back and forth between Aveda and another school but the signs were leading more to the other school. Thanks for the confirmation ⭐️
I’m so glad I was able to help you decide! I promise they’re all the same😂 we all have to end up teaching ourselves in the end! Go to the most affordable!
@@ChatsWithTrudy How did you teach yourself everything that you know now? Would you recommend investing in certifications once I have decided what I want to specialize in?
@@lolmn4630 I mainly stuck to podcasts and UA-cam and took really thorough notes for myself in subjects I was interested in and wanted to know a lot more about. For example, I did a BUNCH of research on rosacea, retinols, chemical peels, skin histology, gut health and how it relates to skin, hormones and how they relate to skin & much much more. I just generally picked a specific topic and stuck to it and researched it to death. We kind of know what our weak spots are usually, and I love being the type of person that always has an answer to any question a client might have. So I just UA-cam any and everything I don’t know a lot about. As for certifications, I kind of believe in them and I kind of don’t. I just can’t bring myself to pay such large sums of money for free education I could get on UA-cam/online. But if you feel like your specific clientele will view you as more credible if you have several certifications hung up, I say go for it! If it helps you gain your clients trust, it’s worth it! Sorry for the lengthy reply, hope I could help!
Great video! I have watched so many videos on this topic, and you have been the most informative and honest about everything. I can completely relate to the social media thing as well... Its definitely a whole other stress for your business.
Welcome back Trudy. I’ve been waiting for more videos and I had to look you up on IG & found you. I can’t wait to see more videos. When I signed up for Esthetician school I started looking on UA-cam and your video was one of the first I saw and started to follow your journey (even if I was late lol) I’m finally starting school next week after being on a waitlist for almost a year. Can’t wait to see more videos that can help me :)
Thank you so much for watching, Lauren! I appreciate your support. I’m so excited for you to go on this journey. It’s so rewarding and fun! I have more videos coming very soon, stay tuned love!
whats your strategy about budgeting expenses verses profit? i live with my parents and am just anxious about how that will work out and how long it would take for me to be able to live on my own and run a business, or if thats even realistic or not ❤ i love your videos!
Thank you so much for watching! To be honest, in the beginning, it will take a while to break even in your business and even be at a point where you’re making a profit. I’m still pouring majority of my income back into the business and have barely been able to pay myself anything. I will make videos on this specific topic this month but if I had to give you one advice, it would be to start SLOW. It’s so tempting to go all out and get everything for the business right away but don’t do that. Start super slow and get only the stuff you NEED to start. My next vid will be on what you need in your back bar as a beginner solo esthie so keep an eye out for that so you can save some money.
