- HOW TO BUILD AN [ ABOVE THE TANK SUMP ] FOR AQUARIUMS OVER 300 GALLONS!! GAME CHANGER!!
In this video I’m building an above the tank sump for my 150 gallon aquarium!! This was a rather simple build with cheap materials! Building an above the tank sump is a great option when you don’t have room under your aquarium. An above the tank sump will help guarantee you don’t have any sump flooding. I prefer above the tank sumps for so many reasons! If you have the desire to build an above the tank sump for yourself, I hope this video assists you in some way. Subscribe to the channel if you haven’t done so already! Thank you for your support!

What’s up Cleveland! Just wanted to tell you thank you and that you definitely inspired me to make my final decision on getting my own aquarium about a month or so ago and given me lots of ideas with your plethora of tanks and repurposing of everything. This sump build was definitely awesome and much appreciated, learned quite a bit.
I wanted to point something out when watching you scratch your head on the position of where the pump sat down in the tank when you put the new sump on top. Why don’t you turn the entire setup 180 degrees? This’ll put the pump towards the wall and closer to the glass. If your repurposed wood door bracing is over the edge, then just cut a little notch in the wood big enough the allow the white PVC go straight down in the tank. This’ll also push the black inlet pipe towards the glass on the left. Same notch can be cut into the wood if needed as well to allow it to go straight down into the tank.
Hopefully you like the idea and I see it in an upcoming video! Peace out Cleveland!
Yeah I had a similar suggestion, move the platform to the right and just turn it around!
Thank you for your support! 👊🏾
Cleveland , you are awesome and doing a great job in your fish room ,keep it up. Michael from Orlando.
Thanks Michael, I appreciate your feedback and support!
Great video, I don't mind the length. I enjoyed watching the fish school towards you as you were working.
Right on. Much appreciated.
Beast of a sump ! Another success bro ! Keep dropping gems 💯🔥
Thank you bro! 👊🏾
I was thinking, Dollar Tree also sells garment / laundry bags. Basically mesh bags. You could make media bags that would probably be more space and maintenance efficient?
You’re right about that. I also bought laundry bags from Walmart for the purpose of holding media. 💪🏾💪🏾dollar tree was lacking.
Is the media basket touching the bottom of tub or is it sitting on the plastic bottom piece like the large basket is?
Also what size tub is that.
Either way is fine but raising the basket is better.
Very helpful video
To start nice turtle
Thank you!
Dude I love it I would definitely hide the return line in the back. But thays easy you can just flip the entire sump around the other way
I'm late, but im gonna do exactly this for an odd shaped corner acrylic tank thats 300 gallon. The tank ia drilled but all holes are plugged. I don't want an under tank sump. But anyway the back has an overflow with a wier (however you spell it)
I was thinking about putting the intake pump in there so it's hidden, as again im not using the drilled holes. Then the outflow have some upward surface agitation.
That definitely sounds like a good plan! Let me know how it goes!
I forgot to ask. What size rub do you think for a 300 gallon tank. I was thinking a 75 gallon tub.
Can i maybe have intake and outflow on same side of tub? Im thinking of pipes going down the back
I would have them on opposite sides.
@@TheFishCorner oh oops I meant on the same front side or back side but opposite ends.
What’s the piece that hooks the plastic tube hose to the bulk head called?
Threaded hose connector.
🤩🎥🤙🏾
💪🏾💪🏾
Good info, thank you! Are you sure that those cheap plastics are aquarium-safe?
🤔🤙
Yep.
@@TheFishCorner Nice! Where do you find that info? I’d like to review the data
😃👍
Great video mate. Cleveland getting the job done! 🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👊🏻
Thank you mate! 💪🏾💪🏾👊🏾💯
Could you put a sponge scourer inside the outlet as well to use as one last filtration trap?
Sponger filter?
Great build on the sump. Your vids r great love how u Always have different content. What r the black pieces of plumbing called that u put in the sump first before u added the pvc. and what sizes did u use. I'd greatly appreciate the info.
Sorry I’m so late. They’re called bulkheads.
Do you have to use the bulk heads? Or can you just stick the pvc pip through the hole and just silicone all around it?
Bulkheads unless you want it to leak.
Hello great video...i enjoy the great content..i want to make this. For my fish tank ..can you give me the size of the pipes you use and ..what pump did you use and if there in more measurements i need ..thank you in advance..
No issues with weight on top of the tank?
None.
Hello do you have a link to the pump you used for the filter...
Here you go. Sorry for the late reply bro.

@@TheFishCorner thank you very much
How will you filter both aquariums with 1 overhead sump? I am curious I did not find a video explaining this
I’m not. Each filter works on one aquarium.
@TheFishCorner ah okay thank for the anwser 😊
@@KathouQC anytime.
What gph pump for that tank?
I don’t remember but just get a pump that turns your aquarium over two to three times an hour based on the size of your aquarium.
question :
is a Sump just a better way of filtering tank with out having to buy filters every couple of weeks and if so how often does the Sump have to be cleaned?
Excellent question bro. I’ll make a video response to this question.
@@TheFishCorner Thanks
Why don't you just flip the script and put the filter on the other side so the white pipe is in the back just a thought
Thought about that. Don’t really like the idea. I like the fact that I can easily access the pump when needed. I don’t mind seeing plumbing and equipment in my tanks, it’s all part of the system and it’s easier to observe and maintain.
My baby snowflake is not eating what should I feed him?
What have you tried so far?
You should cut the pipe for surface
Surface agitation?
