    Josh is one of my favorite instructors and just a great guy all around. Excellent instruction and I teach my students in my class using a lot of the things I learned from Josh.

    crossfit always teaches you exercises in a specific order. by the time you're learning the snatch, you've already learned/practiced the deadlift, backsquat, frontsquat, and the clean.

      Errr… no it doesn’t. CrossFit coaches build a plan for their class at the start of the year, and that’s what you’re doing in the year, regardless of your level and when you join the class. They might sometimes have suggestions for how to scale if you’re struggling with the movements, but not every time, and if you take the scaled version you pretty much never catch up.

    Please, if anyone is watching this to learn how to snatch. Click off this video and watch another, preferably one not done by a crossfit coach.

    The squat is used for proper form and to get the most out of your lift. Unless you're specifically doing Power Snatches (hips don't go below 90 degrees) then you should use the squat. Especially in a technical lift like the snatch, setting a good movement pattern is key, so if you start with low weights but do the full movement, you will be likelier to hit a new PR, or at least get under the bar faster and with good form.

    so when i do the snatch, i normally don't squat until i get to the heavier weights. Is it all part of the form to squat at the end? or is it used as a way to help get the bar over the head? just curious so i know if i should start squatting at the end regardless of the weight to ensure i have good form

    It trips me out that Josh Everett gets negative comments on his O lift teaching technique because he is a CrossFitter. I never see the same negative comments on Mike Burgener (Olympic coach) or Chad Vaughn (Olympic lifter) who both teach O lifts for CrossFit even though THEY TEACH THE EXACT SAME THINGS!!!

  • @whoshallascend
    @whoshallascend 11 років тому +22

    You guys are right. You shouldn't go to a CrossFitter to learn the Olympic lifts. You might end up snatching 300lbs at 195 like Rich Froning, or learning from someone who does a 400+lb clean and jerk in the 77kg category like Olympic lifter Chad Vaughn. Going to a CrossFit gym might have you learning O lifts from Olympic lifting coach Mike Burgener. Steer clear cause you just might get in shape, too.

    • @andreweightlifter5098

    • @whoshallascend
      @whoshallascend 11 років тому +3

      andre weightlifter The individual that teaches the shrug and catch is Mike Burgener. Mike Burgener's son Casey broke a National record in the snatch during the 2004 Olympic trials with a 171 kg lift in the 105 kg weight class. Maybe you could explain to them that it's a faulty method.

    In reality there is no jumping in athletics. All the forces generated through the legs, hips and back or upper torso are generated before the feet leave the ground. This is true in the long jump, high jump, discus and shot put and especially in weightlifting. The lifter is apply leverage through the legs, hips and back to gain momentum at full extension. Lifting the legs under the lifter's body to gain an advantaged position is not the same as jumping. A critical point you should be aware of.

    Obviously knowledgeable instruction but he goes way too fast. People complain about CF coaches opening affiliates too fast and this is part of the problem. Not that it's all his fault - it's a big group - but yes, much too fast.

  • @ugoalberti5952
    @ugoalberti5952 10 років тому

    i don't like the "fast down" part in the dip. Heavy weight could punish you bashing into your shoulder in front squat position.

    • @navsquid32
      @navsquid32 10 років тому +2

      Yeah, it's good to get multiple opinions from multiple coaches on the oly lifts. I've had 3 separate coaches, and I've basically pieced together the best parts of their advice as far as how it pertains to my body type. Also, there's no front squat in the snatch. I think you mean overhead squat.

    • @ugoalberti5952
      @ugoalberti5952 10 років тому +1

      yeah, i mean, generally speaking, teaching to going down fast in the dip (opposite to slow/controlled) is generally not intuitive. I know this not apply specifically for the snatch, but applies in all the rest (front squat, push press ... ).

    • @ugoalberti5952
      @ugoalberti5952 10 років тому

      i understand the trick here ... down fast for the catch is good for clean and snatch (1 rep, heavy weights). In both case you don't have to dip. This basically applies to thrusters and push press (more reps, less weight)

      Acutally he is charging more than the best weighlifter in germany who won titles and could use them as a chair, game of thrones like. Btw, he doesnt get enough money form teaching for buying new weights. Maybe he should sell his work by the name of "crossfit" and not weightlifting. probably he wont have moneyproblems anymore.

I had to go study coaching seminars from actual Olympic lifters to finally learn how to do these lifts correctly. All those coaches make fun of CrossFit

    Far too many drills all rolled into one, and way too many people with little or no observation or correction of technique. if you are unable to execute a back squat or deadlift with correct technique, which i doubt these people can, then you should not be attempting to learn the snatch. If this coaching is provided by crossfit HQ i question the quality of coaching at a club level. i would argue that only the top 10% of crossfitters ever develop decent olympic lifting understanding and technique

    Se usan las piernas para subir la barra NO, la espalda ni los brazos!

    In this video one can see death of men and the triumph of androgyny. In the last 50 years, male serum testosterone levels have decreased on average by 50%. This is an astounding fact that can be explained by the extermination of any acceptable male refuges. Man cannot even lift weights without having to interact with women. This sort of platonic interaction with women - in co-ed schools, workplaces, clubs, sports, ect radically reduces androgen receptor sensitivity and endogenous testosterone output. Females, on the hand, increase their testosterone profile by forming these platonic interactions with males. Androgyny is king. Masculine females and feminine males rule. What irony that weightlifting in the aggregate has a feminizing effect on males and masculinizing effect on females. This is all negative in my view but a trend that will continue. Testosterone replacement is a solution but not an optimal one.

      jloo222 I train oly lifts daily and I love having women there. In fact, I actually perform better lifts when there's biches watching, it gets me pumped. Furthermore, this guy doesn't have any scientific evidence to back up his claims that male testosterone levels have decreased by 50%. Nor, that weightlifting has a feminizing effect on men, which is also completely untrue and unscientific
