  • Separately and together, writer Neil Gaiman and visual artist Dave McKean are two of the fantasy fields most extraordinary innovators. Gaimans writings occupy nearly every storytelling medium, including the epic comic-book series The Sandman, the BBC series Neverwhere, and the bestselling novels American Gods, Anansi Boys, and Coraline. McKeans stylistically unconventional work in photography, collage, sculpture, painting, drawing, and film, along with his mammoth graphic novel Cages prove him to be a vivid storyteller in his own right. Their intensive collaborations range from graphic novels to childrens books; their most recent feat is the visually magical feature-length film Mirrormask, directed by McKean with screenplay by Gaiman. The artists will present work both verbal and visual, followed by an onstage conversation.

"I wouldn't put extreme violence in something i was making for kids because it would upset parents" - i love how Gaiman breaks this claim with the very first sentence of The Graveyard Book

Absolutely wonderful to see this on here. It's made me so happy to see it. And it never seems to come up in searches (so thank goodness I made it a favourite on Twitter)

1:41:26 I have no Idea how he managed to think this, It's like he doesn't know that he's Neil Gaiman lol. This man has taught me so much about obscure mythological, folkloric, and religious practices and stories through his work. I learned about a whole Japanese pantheon I'd never heard of from Sandman. 🤣 Not to mention his hilarious retellings of the gospel of the boy Jesus or the third wife for Adam (Not Eve or Lilith but the other one that nobody talks about). I'd never heard any of that before Neil! And didn't he basically become a world expert on Slavic myths and read every single available text on the subject when writing American Gods and get annoyed there weren't anymore books to read on the subject? No wonder he has colleges calling him up asking for his sources.
