I absolutely love the semi-psychedelic, mysterious, muted but at the same time colorful and fascinating style of the Sandman covers. Along with the stories themselves, the covers are an integral part if those books and their interpretations. Loved this small peak behind the curtain; look into the mind of such an amazing artist. Great interview!
this is one of the best interviews ive ever seen. i am a huge dave mckean fan. his arkum asylum is one of the new books i actually went out n bought (even tho i am an indie comic artist) and still have and look at today - The internal logic, intuition of it is timeless -
I have just rediscovered Dave McKean, whose work had somehow been buried in my unconscious mind, and now I have the chance to have an insight into his thought processes, thanks to your interview. I mean, can I even thank you enough? My mind has just been blown away. Many thanks.
I genuinely obsess over this man. He does not get all the credit that he deserves when I was a wee one I remember mirror mask coming out and I was so caught up by it. And then getting older and studying the arts and moving image always coming back to this man and refereeing him. Right now I'm in university and I'm doing a presentation about him. Because honestly I've never been as interested in another artist as I am him. I just want to crawl inside of his brain and have a peep at whats in there because its crazy! Why is this man not as well known as he should be!!!
I've been a fan of McKean since Black Orchid. I have my original copies of Cages on a proud spot on my shelf. I haven't seen as much of his work recently. The last I'd seen from him was Celluloid. Looking forward to this conversation. Thanks!
Great interview thanks, yeah! sandman covers were cool, they gave the narrative inside more dimensionalism, and yes our perceptions fool us but the universe likes to play games with us, thank you both, it was grand chat

You can't beat McKean, love all of his work, especially his kids stuff.
Brilliant interview. Love Dave. He is unique yet seldom recognized for his innovative style.
Most interior art of Sandman was terrific bad. But each cover was an masterpiece. Brings all sensations of dreams bring
I learned photo editing in the early 2000 and my favourites were (and still are) Dave McKean, Travis Smith and Niklas Sundin.
