It’s good that you trying to educate other people about our culture I thank you for that but you need some more research otherwise can make most misunderstandings for others & From my understanding about katha. Sorry
ཁ་བཏགས་ལ་འགྲེལ་བཤད་རྒྱབ་སྟངས་མཁས་པ་སོ་སོའི་རྣམ་སྤྱོད་དང་ལུགས་མི་འདྲ་བ་མང་པོ་ཡོད་རེད་སྙམ།་་་དེ་ན་དབང་མོ་ལགས་ནས་ངོ་སྤྲོད་ཐུང་ངུ་བཤད་པ་ལ་དགེ་མཚན་མ་གཏོགས་སྐྱོན་ཆེན་པོ་མཐོང་གི་མི་འདུག General there are three kind of scarf which white is normally using by Tibetan, blue scarf using by Mongolia and yellow using by Chinese tradition. Tibetan we use white Khatag for wedding ceremony, funeral services and meeting high Lama or special occasion as well.

I don't know if it can be washed but it can be used multiple times if it's not torn or old
