Music video by Ben Folds Five performing Landed. (C) 2013 Ben Folds / Distributed by Sony Music Entertainment Originally broadcast on AXS TV on January 31, 2013
I pass him on the streets of Downtown Nashville and he is one of the most down to earth artist out there. My dad is a good piano player and he says when he hears Ben’s instrumentals, that is second to none...I agree!!
This is the superior version of this song in every way. The brilliant Fiveish augmentations to the arrangement, Ben's killer vocals and solos, Robert's gorgeous harmony in the bridge, giving that fantastic "Ba ba ba" outro the repeat it deserves; absolutely smokes both studio versions on all fronts. This was born to be a BFF song.
@@Partybob1 Oh shit, you're Sledge! You're one of my favorite bassists! You have a playful expressiveness underlying your striking dynamic oscillations which sucks the ear right into the music and opens entire dimensions of feeling and meaning which would otherwise be absent from the song. Your style is a watershed of the best ways of using the bass in a rock context that have been found up till now, and you're a central inspiration in my own work in regards to the role and language of the bass. Thank you very much indeed for your contribution to the rock project, Mr. Sledge; it has been extremely helpful.
@@Partybob1 Indeed they were; hope there's a third round someday. I thought SOTLOTM was y'all's best work, and probably Ben's best work in general. Me and my younger brothers used to sing the title track as a walking song, trading off in the chorus. I still remember being introduced to y'all on The Colbert Report, playing "Do It Anyway", after I'd stayed up all night and the dawn was just beginning to glow through the curtain. The punk coiled-spring energy together with the beautiful classic pop melodies, and the animation of the fish swimming by the submerged robot in the background; it was an aesthetic revelation for me. The wistful beauty of psychedelic pop really got its hold on me then; before I ever slaved over the melodies of Guided By Voices or Elliot Smith in desperation to understand their inner workings so I could emulate them, "Do It Anyway" was my power-pop north star.
I recently broke up with my girlfriend of four years and am now starting to realize just how abusive she'd been to me the whole time in all of the ways this song describes. Now I love it more than ever.
The more I listen to this intro, the more I'm blown away by this song. This is one of my all time favorite intro licks of any song with a fucking intro, period.
Been a Ben Folds fan forever! I like him because not only is he an awesome musician, but he seems like he is really approachable and a cool dude to hang out with! Awesome music dude!
Ben really is approachable. I've seen BFF twice and Ben 3 times. I don't know if he still does this, but when I saw him in the early-mid 2000s if you hung around after the show he would come back out. I actually got a picture with him...until I sadly took the roll of film out & it wasn't ready. The entire thing over exposed. I still have the autograph he signed for me that night. I will always remember meeting Ben & getting a hug. It made my lifetime.
Just gonna say 2 things.. a) this song he makes look easy but its actually hard and b) Ben Fold Five is irreplaceable and there will never be another band like this that will inspire in the specific way they did
I liked this song when it was out and just before I had a relationship with someone in 2006, months after it all went horribly wrong I realised this song was absolutely spot on apart from the moving to the west coast. She was a controlling person and had me scared of her by the end. Listening to this song now makes sense of it all.
This reminds me of when I finally gave up on my first marriage. I did everything imaginable to save it, but she didn't even try or care. People were telling me for years that this was pointless. She was volatile and unstable, and she didn't give a shit about me.
Breakup songs about staying strong are so rare from a male perspective these days. Makes you feel less alone and it’s beautiful.
Preach.

That piano lick (at the beginning) is just sick.
Yes it is, and surprisingly easy to play too haha.
For a second I thought he licked the piano while I still don't know what you mean at least he didn't lick the piano-
@@wo7861 lol. I meant it like a guitar lick...part of a song.
Makes me feel like I should start into the first verse of Fire & Rain though.

No matter how many times I hear this, circumstances change...this song remains poignant, witty, and a delight to contemplate...
I recently broke up with my girlfriend of four years and am now starting to realize just how abusive she'd been to me the whole time in all of the ways this song describes. Now I love it more than ever.

Come pick me up.
Ben folds, jemaine clement , seperated at birth.
I have never heard of this fellow except for a duet with Rufus Wainwright, and The Sing Off. He plays piano better than he sings IMO
+Kay Burt Because everyone else sounds better live than their studio recording.
Adf
Modern day "Elton-Dee-Nigel"....possibly?
Why not?
I cannot play that in B flat. My voice doesn't go that high! I do G.
