ABC was my favorite network back then, it had a lot fun shows for us young people…
Sad to think by 1979 the VW Beetle would no longer be sold in the United States. By 1974 the Rabbit had begun to out sale the Beetle
25:34 - Wonder Bond - with James Harder, who was in, or voiced, hundreds of commercials, including for Fig Newtons, and the "Betcha Don't Know" PSAs. His father was George Harder, who survived the Titanic, and was photographed on the deck of the Carpathia, after being rescued.
Noticed David Garrison, who would play Steve Rhoades in "Married with Children" in the Michelob Light Beer ad. I was 10 years old and in the 5th Grade. I wish they're more ads like this today, as it's mostly Pharmaceutical ads and I don't feel them!
I was 8. This a month after Superman came out. I remember when Salvage came on. God I wish I had time machine.
taking it back to a Sunday 45 years ago tonight!
January 14 fell on a Sunday in 1979, and now in 2024. 1/14/24
6:10 there's only one Sears in Texas now,
inside Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso.
I miss the Sears on Harlem & North Ave. bordering Chicago, Elmwood Park, Oak Park, & River Forest.
1979 , had a bigger family, get four door sedan ,
2009, get a minivan ,
2019, get a crossover…
Thanks For Sharing!
Hi there, thanks for your posts. I collect/have a bunch of NYC TV transmissions on beta that I'm going to put on ebay later this mo. Most are from 80s. If interested, I will send you the link once posted.
Hi 🙂 Nice to meet you! I am glad you enjoy my posts. And yeah that would be great, thanks. I would definitely be interested. One of my passions is preserving old beta tapes and I'm from that area so that makes it extra cool seeing what tv was like back then. Do the tapes have commercials on them?
Campho phenique an old one
I would let my wife “ Barbra “ sleep and get up and get my own medicine, since I can’t sleep 😄..(I remember that commercial)
Great stuff!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the video 🙂 I have even more 1970s beta tapes that I'll be uploading on here soon.
4:45- Repeat of the hour-long "MORK & MINDY" pilot episode {and they'd repeat it again in December 1979, before ABC moved the series back to Thursdays [from Sundays] in January 1980}
5:50- Sandy Becker for Sears.
20:16- "The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders" TV movie was co-produced by none other than James T. Aubrey, the former CBS president who doubled their profits between 1959 and 1964 with mostly inane sitcoms {and started the "rural" era of programming in the 1960's with "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" and "PETTICOAT JUNCTION"} and action/adventure series. His dictum was "broads, bosoms and fun". He was somewhat nasty as well, who often roughed up women he dated. Aubrey once told Lucille Ball during negotiations to keep "THE LUCY SHOW" on the air, "I'm not here to pump sunshine up your tush!" (and she told her close friends, "I cannot STAND that man!"). John Houseman called him "The Smiling Cobra".
Keene Holliday in the right guard commercial
I was seven years old.
"The Late Great Planet Earth", trailered at 8:31, was one of the selections Pacific International had for the Dog of the Week feature on PBS' "Sneak Previews" (the other two were "Wilderness Family" films). I must say that when Gene Siskel (of the Chicago Tribune and, at the time, also of WBBM-TV in Chicago) sees through that blatant bit of End Times plugola, you'll know it's a pile of crap.
Wonderland glue? You me4an Wonder Bond glue for the 25:34 commercial!
Thanks for the correction, I'll fix that now 🙂. I was actually editing a Disney channel tape at the same time as this one so I guess Wonderland was on my mind lol
Do you have any commercials from the Hispanic TV network Univision, from the late 80's to early 90's (Fall 1989-January 1993) during the Univision y Los Niños block of shows like Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Kidd Video, Rainbow Brite, Teddy Ruxpin, Platavision block during Beverly Hills Teens (translated as Las Aventuras En Plata Hills), Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater (translated as El teatro mágico de Hello Kitty), Pepe Plata, and the Chispavision block during C.O.P.S. (translated as an Spanish acronym stood for Comando Organizado de Policías Superiores), Captain N: The Game Master (translated as Capitán Nintendo), The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! (translated as El show de Super Mario Bros.), The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 (translated as Las aventuras de los hermanous Super Mario), Inspector Gadget and The New Archies (translated as Los nuevos Archies)?
4:05 Steve Rhoades aka David Garrison!
Good afternoon 4:16
The late network news was called the ABC News Weekend Report.
@@fromthesidelines In New York, yes, but it varied by market and not every ABC station cleared them. Many stations who did carry the broadcast delayed it until right before sign-off.
What happened to the Cheerleaders?
ok
Future "Press Your Luck" host Peter Tomarken at 10:20.
Quick question: Do you tend to take requests? If so, I'm wondering if you have anything related to the Hispanic television network "Univision"?
Yeah usally if I have what the person requests and the person is polite when asking I'll make it a point to upload it to my page. I think I actually do have some vhs tapes of that channel from the late 80s with commercials 🙂
Imagine, saving a whole $43 by purchasing the Newport!!! 😄
