Baptism is very important for a Christian who has turned from his sin, it signifies the death of his old self, of his flesh and the birth of a new man washed clean. One doesn't have to be baptized to be born again but it follows being born again and is to be the beginning of a sanctified life. Baptism is not a precursor to speaking in tongues as oneness pentecostalism teaches.I agree it is a public declaration of faith and a command to to any Christian.
