I loved this final Pleasure Trove episode! Though I'm fairly sure you went to at LEAST three sex-related events this year, because I sat and listened to your workshop at Eroticon! As a sex writer myself, I confess I felt quite a lot of FOMO watching so many folks I follow posting about Esther Perel's talk and Emma Louise Boynton's event with Laurie Nunn. It's making me want to move to London! I'm also glad that you've been enjoying If Books Could Kill so much - I feel like your Patreons can really take credit for luring you into the Michael Hobbes fan club.
One of my own sexy faves for 2023 was starting PrEP! PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a HIV prevention medication and I've been taking it since February - and also writing about it and getting more and more passionate about making information about PrEP and the drug itself more accessible for everyone! It feels really good to be so proactive about my sexual health, and taking PrEP connects me to and allows me to celebrate my own queer masculinity.

So glad you mentioned the Fruity podcast and particularly the Heard/Depp episode - exact same experience and was so grateful for the nonsense of that situation to be cut through and explained properly!

About Viv's abusive relationship storyline being rushed: I can see that but I also think it's kinda cool that she got out relatively early? I like that it didn't have to come to something really horrible happening for her to pull the breaks, and also with support from others (obv it was still bad enough as it is!)

I can really relate to your identification with Jean in Sex Ed season 4. Having a baby similar to Rowan's age, the portrayal of post-natal depression hit hard. Also I just recently realised that I'm now Lorelai's age not Rory's as when I started watching Gilmore Girls. But not sure if you ever watched that. Falls into the same category as Barbie and Love Actually for me. ;) Great episode and recommendations, I loved this series!

Hi! I’m from Cinema Therapy, and love your message and that you’re helping to de stigmatize sex ed. Keep it up. (Also I kinda love Sex Education, but season 4 fell flat. For a year of waiting, it could have been better

I love pleasure trove and very excited it’s back for one last video!
You mentioned sex education and I have. A lot of thoughts. Mainly that, despite being one of the only shows that actually does ace representation, I still hate how it handles asexuality (as an ace person myself). The throwaway character in season 2 was definitely done better, but that still left a lot to be desired in terms of meaningful representation as she was a one episode and done character. And as for O, I hated her. Yes, some asexual people are sex positive, I liked how that was kind of touched on to contrast the other more sex repulsed leaning character, that’s not my issue. My issue is that she used her asexuality as a free pass to be a dick. Otis did not out her (I have other issues with Otis, but he did not force her to come out) she chose to out herself when face with the shitty thing she had done over and over again. Being ace is not an excuse for ghosting people when the relationships start to head in a direction you are not comfortable with. And then blaming Otis for outing her when he had no conceivable way of knowing what caused her shitty behaviour was just unbelievably unfair. I don’t have a problem with having ace characters who are bad people, but that wasn’t really the direction they took. They had her do shitty things and use her sexuality as justification.

Yeah I’m not ace but it was weird to me they’d aim for representation then her whole storyline is just her sucking. Like you said representation doesn’t mean the characters have to be flawless people and they’re allowed to suck but it was weird that her bad behaviour was specifically linked to her asexuality. I thought it came across like ‘ace people will lie and make up discrimination when their lives aren’t that hard’ which I’m sure wasn’t intentional but yikes

Personally I preferred Barbie's breakdown before Gloria's monologue as being the actual relatable bit. I also loved it (and Love Actually, and About Time) but like... also yikes.

My favourite sex themed book of the year was Ace Voices by Eris Young. It's more about a/sexuality then sex itself but I learned so much and lent it to 2 of my friends who both really enjoyed it and have passed on the recommendation now haha

I think she said the brand was called Hearts and Bows, but i could not find a website with a shop from them. Only some stuff in secondhand shops.
But i can recommend the German brand armedangels. They have some jumpers in that colour and are a fairtrade and sustainable brand :)

I'd say the latest 3 episodes of Doctor were quite good for trans and disability representation. There were some moments that made me yelp, as I think they showed transphobia and ableism to then show it was wrong and how to deal with it, so I'd have loved a TW, but I get the premise that most people need big signs to learn this, whereas us sex ed folk understand the nuance... there also was a scene right at the end when the brilliant and beautiful Ncuti comes in as the doctor and the character Donna says "do you come in every color?"... my jaw dropped a little and I can't find anyone online talking about whether that was OK or not.... very odd representation for a show I have loved for years!

Haaaaaated sex education season 4, like it’s almost ruined the previous seasons for me bc it was so bad
It all felt extremely rushed, the representation was super shallow, it was just a mess. I could trash talk it for hours tbh it felt like such a chore to get through
I personally hated Eric’s arc. Like God led him to Cal???? So confused by that it felt like the overarching message was God is real and powerful (idk how else it could be taken tbh) when that’s… not true to me at all. Straight up felt like religious propaganda, I thought it was really out of place
Genuinely glad u enjoyed it tho you are the only person I’ve heard say that (that sounds v catty but I do mean it lmao)

lol when you talked about your boob and vagina cast and said "but I have to move out of my studio next year" I was so certain you would say "so I am going to give them away to you guys! Look in the description for details on how to enter the give away" and then it sort of daunt on me how fucking weird that would be, but also how I in some way could see you doing that and I mean this as a compliment. You are terrific of spreading the attitude of "a vagina is just a vagina" as in: it does not have to be mystical, sexual or anything else than a body part similar to your knee or whatever. In that sense I was kind of not surprised by the presumed give away, I would imagine you viewing it as being good silly and having the thought proces of the viewers would already have watched the cast numerous times before, the cast not being your actual physical genitalia and whoever would end receiving them probably having seen real life genitalia before. It is bloody refreshing how unaffected by the standard attitude towards nakedness you are. I send you a loving thought when I strip completely butt naked on the beach to get into clean clothes. Some of my friends are gobsmacked, but for fuck sake, i am maybe exposed for four seconds. It would take way longer if I had to do the procedure while never sharing my tits and bits with the world .. and relax. They are just tits and bits lol. Not really that interesting

Hey Hannah. I haven't listened to the podcast you mention that talks about Amber Heard but I have watched the full trial as it was happening. I also saw the way it was covered by the press and by people that say men can't be victims or "deserve it". There is a world of a difference.
    The headlines were so misleading.
No one mentions the audio in which AH says "Tell them, I, Johnny Depp, I'm a victim of domestic abuse ... and see how many people believe or side with you." Or the one where she laughs à la Joker. Or the fact she was arrested for assaulting her previous partner - who was a woman.
Or the fact that she says JD beat her up, wearing big rings, but her face shows nothing.
Again allegations of plumeting her back with rings, but she went to a gala with a backless dress that went all the way down almost showing her butt the same night where again, there was no trace of anything on the picture of the gala and no, the damages she alledges aren't coverable with makeup.
There are a lot of full breakdowns on UA-cam from lawyers and clips from the trial. I would really encourage you to do your due diligence and watch it. Because men can be victims of abuse too. And they are way too often dismissed.

    • @ZebraJess92
      @ZebraJess92 6 місяців тому +9

Yes and if you check out the british trial that went on first you see lots of evidence of Depp being abusive that wasn't allowed in the American trial. I think they are both terrible people and abusers who formed a perfect toxic relationship. Heard made the mistake to act as if she was only a victim with no fault of her own in public and the while thing unravelled. And she was a victim, but she was also an abuser. And Depp wasn't an innocent little angel either and I'm so disappointed that society needs to make everything black amd white, one good and one bad side. They are both bad or at least bad with and to each other.
