There is no need to struggle with a BM7 all you have to do when you get to A7 is to quickly make an AM shape and slide it to the 3rd fret, it sounds much better as it corresponds to the slide you're doing on the EM. Also the secret to better guitar playing is to keep it all loose and to just suggest the chords. Having said that, Justin is 'the man' and there is no-one better on You Tube.
Bloody brilliant, Justin. You always manage to come up with great songs with interesting guitar parts. That Em slide sounds so cool and is surprisingly easy to do
Oh man, thanks for this lesson! Someone in our band came up with this song as an intro for our new pianist, and here I am, learning such a beautiful song. It'll take me a while for all the ins and outs, but the more I hear it, the more I like it. Thanks Justin!
Great as always. I see others have liked your singing as well. Have you been working on it? You sing loud and proud! In some of your earlier lessons you didn't project the same confidence. Well done!
Thanks man, really appreciate this tutorial. I hope to learn this so I can play it for my mum coz its her favourite song and i learnt the intro about 10 years ago, on my first attempt at learning guitar. I recently picked it back up whilst off work for a few months and have grown quite attached to it. My mums eyes light up whenever she talks about me learning that intro so I'm expecting full blown water works once I get this nailed. Thanks again
Thank you for this. I watched Weller play this live and I'm sure he did something different after the first Em slide down to the fourth fret but i couldn't tell so i decided to try something else myself by replacing the second strum with a C shape, root on the fifth fret. No idea what that chord is called but thought it sounded great so, slide the Em to 4th fret, one strum then C shape on 5th for one strum 😊
I've been following you for years Justin, you've taught me so many songs that I use in my set list. I've just signed up to your 'global community' so I hope to be learning a lot more. It's a big hello from Paul In England.
Adding the E string at the 2nd then 3rd fret on strums 3 and 4 is way easier way to play the intro/Em lines. Also the walk down in the chorus works well with power chords, E5, Eflat5, D5 C5.
Thanks Justin , a grt lesson for a wonderful song and one so poignant to me , reminds me of the way I was treated by a lovely girl after the passing of my wife .. I thought of this song at that time ...

I'd like to be cool enough to say I use your lessons to just remind me how I could already play but forgot due to the effects of all the partying has had on my brain,. But I've got to be honest the majority of the lessons I get I realise how wrong I've been playing a shite improvised version from the dark ages of no UA-cam lol. But no your an awesome tutor Justin, most the time I end up getting frustrated with other tutors on UA-cam, but never with you, your a cool guy who knows his shit and has a good way of teaching it, keep doing what your doing man, if your ever up in Scotland, I'd love a jam lol 👍
it's Italian. translate it yourself, it's more fun 🙂 È la più bella versione di questa canzone. Con tutto il rispetto per Paul Weller, alla chitarra è più bello il tuo sound💪
Great tutorial but ... at the end... you know you didn't master it ... lower key. Another thing.... You are not explaining what cords you are "hitting" (right hand). So newbies can't really know .. or have to guess (That was my case). I figured it out but .. I guess other people had to search too...Anyways.. Loved your tutorial anyways and.. Great voice ;-)

This is the best tutorial of this track hands down. Great you're nodding to the Paul weller guitar version.
You have chosen one of the most beautiful songs ever. You do a great job.

You mean a Bm7. A BM7 would be a B Major 7th. Lower case for minor chords is the standard.
Bloody brilliant, Justin. You always manage to come up with great songs with interesting guitar parts. That Em slide sounds so cool and is surprisingly easy to do
you do something wonderfull to me(!), Justin! Thank you!
Justin, you're still a legend after all these years.

cracking job Justin, enjoyed the lesson (and the 7 6 5 3 run debacle!), and a brilliant song. thanks again

Great as always. I see others have liked your singing as well. Have you been working on it?
You sing loud and proud!
In some of your earlier lessons you didn't project the same confidence.
Well done!

Cheers Justin.
Justin rules forever!
Rumour has it that if he makes a million subs, the hat is coming off !!
Fantastic acoustic version of this song on Paul Weller's Days of Speed album.
Always envious of someone who can can songs in their original key. I have to drop 4-8 semitones for most of the songs I do as struggle above a C note.
Nice choice Justin cool vibe thank you for the lesson
Great lesson thanks

IkBenSuperLief
It inspired me to try a Maton, and after trying one I had to get one. They're amazing. Love the Bunya pine soundboard they do.
how beatiful
yeah, originally piano but wella plays it acoustically too
I’m here for the rundown on his live performance.....it’s different to that.
He’s going with feel and doing an instrument side and the bm the Modfather does is an alternative one with it being almost an am shape on second fret.
Best on here as usual.thanks.could you do the solo?
I hate saying this but you have a spelling mistake in the description "modafther" :P
Great lesson though, love Paul Weller
The video I watched it doesn't look like he plays a Bm7 I don't see him bar anything????
it's Italian. translate it yourself, it's more fun 🙂 È la più bella versione di questa canzone. Con tutto il rispetto per Paul Weller, alla chitarra è più bello il tuo sound💪
