Used to have Conti VikingContact7 (they are not RFT) winter tires on my 2013 X5. Top of the line tire.

My experience with the X5 is that most tire centers will not remove runflats from the rim unless you agree that they will not be responsible for damage to the tire. If you are going to have a set of winter tires and a set of summer tires, and also want runflats, it is best to have two sets of rims. This also means two full sets of TPM sensors. If you live in an area with decent cell service, runflats may not really be that necessary.

Tire Rack is great, ive been using them for past 15 years. Had tires shipped to myself and to the shops I chose. I bought my 2013 X5 about four months agoFrom a wholesaler in New Jersey. The existing tires were shot. I spoke talk to the sales person he sent me to a local shop that they deal with and had nearly new Michelin run flats installed. About 80 % tread remaining. I’m in Staten Island New York we don’t even get that much snow for me to use winter tires all year long. We get maybe 15 to 20 inches a year

Hi, I hope you see this message....it's been a while since you posted. I am preparing to buy new tires for my BMW X5 2013 and I would like to know if the Michelin run flats are still your preferred tire. Thanks

I live in Canada (Ontario) and the points you mention for dedicated winter rims are 100% correct :)

can you tell me more about maintenance on the diesel? I hear they can get clogged up? Also the cat can get clogged? Do you have to add additives with the diesel?

Tire rack is best. I love the selection of tires and wheels they have. And their prices are very good

Hey Rob. Thanks for the terrific review of grips on an X5. I’ve got a 2013 with the 20” option (staggered setup - 315/35 rear, 275/40 front). I want to get a set of 255/50R19 winters on new rims. As you said, going to the dealer is $$$! But trying figure out all the specs of a new set of rims (offset, back space, centre bore etc) is tough. All the websites have different and incomplete info. I’m thinking to go to the dealer to get all the specs before I go to Tire Rack or anywhere else. Any thoughts?

Try PMC tire, based in Canada. Low shipping fees and they will have a tire for your X5. I bought a set of winter tire on there and I'm buying an all season set for next year very soon.

What specific type of pirelli all season tires tires did you have on when you bought the truck? I am looking into a new set of either those or the Continental extreme contact dws06
I have the same truck as you but non desiel. Mine is 09 with roof rack, sunroof, siderails, brown leather interior. I absolutely love my BMW x5 and I am wanting to get a matching fleet of them.

70$ labour fee per tire is insane…. In Finland they do all 4 for like 70-100$ or €

21in staggered on the G05 X5 the choice of winter tire is very limited and also very expensive.
