I walk jog these downs every day. But Since I have been here, 18 months I have never seen anything on those Walton and Epsom Downs panels. They also cover the three gallops on the Walton Down behind the course. I don't think there is much Non Derby activity to place on them. The Epsom Golf course is also used for car parking.

Those panels! I did a video on them last November (ua-cam.com/video/FYIqfpWhcCA/v-deo.html) but I need to do another one and have a go at the council. In the unveiling photos with the mayor they put some info in the one panel that was being unveiled so it looked good in the photos. Now, as you say, it’s been well over a year and still nothing! 🤔 Thanks for the reminder 🙂

Unbeknown to you this was a lovely Birthday/viewing surprise. Thank you.

Finally if you & Kerry go on Friday, Oaks Day or Saturday, Derby Day have fun & stay safe. Again, I hope there are no disruptive protests.

You need to get your atistic bences out there on the Downs like the ones in the City :)

Is the Duchess stadium fairly new? Or have they upgraded the old Grandstand? Rosebury (sp?) stand has gone.

It looks like it was opened in 2009: www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/local-news/duchess-opens-new-racecourse-stand-4824618.amp

@@SimonPain thank you for these very interesting articles. Had know idea the Grandstand was a hospital for awhile.

It was frequently shown on the News during the initial Covid vaccination phase, as it was one of the first Covid vaccination centres in the UK. I got my first jab there. I always think that the Duchess stand looks more dated than the Queens Stand, and though the Queens Stand was built later. But the Duchess stand is 12 years younger.

Gorgeous walk on a beautiful day. Interesting that the "Downs House" is being renovated, I just assumed that several houses would replace it. Maybe it was purchased below market with an agreement to Not develop it, but the Council would give up some major tax revenue in the future. OR - Could just be a Deep Pocket Horse Breeder, what a Prestigious location to invite Horsey friends.
    Cheers from San Diego

There's some info on the Downs House here: www.equineplanningsolutions.co.uk/portfolio/training-yards/downs-house-epsom/
"The proposed scheme includes a 70no. box stable yard, 55m x 30m outdoor arena, 250m oval gallop, horse walker and associated grooms and trainer’s accommodation."
I don't know if that's the exact plan they're going with but it sounds good.

I checked out that website, some very nice equipment for training and care.
There’s a lot of money in it, I imagine.
It’s a wealthy persons hobby for sure and this location is Unique for the Horsey crowd to Park their Mounts, and possibly stay over for the Races.
Will they put a viewing deck on the rooftop? I would.
      Cheers

I wonder what kind of activity is on that property during the races this week, at the very least I would think the developers would be inviting their future guests/clients to a Party.
      Cheers

I'm planning on filming something on Derby day, I'm not exactly sure what yet, but I'll see if I can get up that far and take a look.
