    This is awesome. A true musician in every sense of the word. Every time he picks up the guitar, it's different.
    "Play like you did 30 years ago!"
    Sorry, bud.
    George might not play like he did 30 MINUTES ago, much less 30 years.

    I picked up Back for the Attack a couple weeks ago and been jammin' along a few times. Lynch was one of my earliest influences, and I learned a lot from him regarding blending minor pentatonic and Aeolian runs. He always had a cool pinky slide technique to get an extra ascending legato note on his licks. Also a great stretch for tapping and trill-type stuff like the solos for In My Dreams and Tooth and Nail. Great player.

    Whoever thinks this is crap then you're missing the point.....This is like an open jam just throwing stuff out there. Oh yeah, the dude can construct a mean solo, but this is none of that. This is a guy unafraid to walk out cold and play whatever and see what can be made, like a chef. If you want the bad ass shred, then throw on an album. I watched him play at ESP in North Hollywood last year with Buny Brunel and an unknown drummer and it was one of the best improv shows I've ever seen

    Everyone here that's complaining ought to check out his work in KXM & The End Machine & Dirty Shirley....all work he's done in just the last couple of years. He's killin' it....
    Even though he's 65 years old, he is still moving forward...he's not hopelessly stuck in the 80's like so many of his contemporaries. Like that other great guitar player Jeff Beck, who is almost 80 (!!!), George is always moving on to the next exciting project, kicking ass and taking names, unafraid to try something different.

    What seems to be happening here, is an outstanding stage talent, transitioning to a DAW station..
    Free styling to new music, even if he cowrote or riffed the outline.. he's still free styling the solos, which..in classic Lynch style.. you can't tell where solos and riffs begin and end.. and oh yeah.. the rythems in there somewhere too..
    This is really what we all love about his music to begin with.. it's just not something we're use to watching "in progress"..
    He adjusted to the room.. he got the first one out of the way.. and came into his own..
    He's playing with the delay in heavy mode.. and the room doesn't support it well.. notice all the little studio DAW monitors on the desk?
    PUT A FRONT FLOOR MONITOR DOWN THERE.. and have him dial his gear in.. for stage.. not desk..
    It's still Lynch.. no denying that at all..
    It's kind of a "unplugged" but really only unplugged from the stage gear. That's all..
    George is obviously not an alien.. he's human.. and that's a relief. Because his playing from the beginning has been out of this world.. awsome..

    Welcome to the real world where things aren't always pretty. The creative process is just that; a process. George has provided us with so much great finished product over the years it's just interesting to hear all you haters be so childishly critical of him; what have you contributed to the world of music? George doesn't have to put himself out there but he chooses to do so good and bad. I'm sure many of you can play Lynch, Van-Halen, Malmsteen, Rhoads etc.... note for note even more accurately than they could...but what does that make you? That's right, copiers; you've created nothing on your own or at least nothing that amounts to much. To quote an old movie, you're not even the beginning of a pimple on George Lynch's ass. Show some respect.

    People who think Lynch has lost his touch, look up his quarantine jam. When he sticks with the usual scales and modes he knows well, he hasn't lost much at all. The problem is he's trying to play all improv jazz and dissonant here, when by his own admission he's musically illiterate. That rarely works out well. Standing with a 14lb Kamikaze 1 slung for over an hour at his age is impressive enough.

    • @RotterStudios
      @RotterStudios 2 роки тому

      I'm the same; I never use theory while playing and I hate improvising for that reason. I tried to learn for years but it limits me and not as fun. Maybe that's wrong; I still wrestle with that thought...but I hate learning that stuff and I'm better without it. If people ask me to play guitar, I cringe at the thought unless I have something worked out.

      Jazz improv isn't about dissonance, it's about 2-5-1s and playing over (fast) changes, modulations, it's a specific discipline, a kind of language. You can't do it just play playing some random "wrong notes" in some chord progression, there is MUCH MORE to it than this...

    He first hour, but when he came in he literally made the show. Dokken voice has come down as expected after 35 years and a recent surgery, but Lynch looks like he did not age a second. I'm kind of wondering about something. I'm a 53 year old metalhead. Grew up playing the guitar since I was 10, played in a lot of metal bands, in a lot of bars and festivals around the area where I grew up. I grew up on a steady diet of AC/CD, Ted Nugent, JP, Maiden, Sabbath, Ozzy, Van Halen, Accept, Dio, Def Leppard, The Scorps, Metalica, etc., etc., etc..., and then of course in my 20's a smorgasbord of 80's bands like Motley Crew, Megadeath, Dokken, etc., etc., etc... too many to list, and I idolized the likes of Randy Rhoads, George Lynch, Zakk Wylde, again too many to list. So recently my wife and I watched the Netflix movie "The Dirt" about Motley Crew, and she asked me a question which got me thinking. She asked, "Does watching this make you feel young again?" and it got me thinking. Of course watching some of the things Crew went through brought back memories. I remember hearing "Live Wire" for the first time, and falling in love with it, and then how exited I was when they released their second album and just being blown away by "Looks that Kill," and although very simplistic, how incredibly cool it sounded. I remember when Vince Neil's accident was in the headlines, hearing the news that Nikki Sixx had died, etc... Pretty much any time I watch a documentary about one of my favorite bands, that warm feeling of nostalgia washes over me, as I'm sure it does many of you. HOWEVER, it really only took me a couple of seconds to answer my wife's question, "Does it make me feel young again?" and the answer was quite honestly "The exact opposite!" Especially when I see a video like the above vid with George Lynch, whom I haven't so much as even seen a picture of in over 20 years, and then suddenly "WOW! He got old!" Which then only makes me feel my age. Actually, aside from the long white hair, he actually looks great. As for myself, I got bald and fat. WAY bald! Like, "oh you might as well just shave it and go with that look for the rest of your life" bald. I know I'm not old, per se. It's not like I'm shopping for retirement homes or anything, and I still play my guitar, but by no stretch of the imagination to I think I'd look even remotely cool on stage playing a bunch of old 8o's covers. God bless the guys who still do. As sad as it can look sometimes, I'm always thankful someone is keeping it on life support. HOWEVER, the point of this is, I'm just wondering, does anyone else think of this the same way I do? Do videos like the one above, or even seeing some old 80's music videos of your favorite hair bands make you feel young again, or like me, does it make you feel old? Yes, I realize mine is a glass is half full way of looking at it, but it is what it is. I don't avoid looking for this kind of stuff. In fact, I dive down that rabbit hole white often. I do love that warm feeling of metal nostalgia. My poor kid, I often finding myself dragging my 11 year old son away from his iPad from time and time, MAKING (yes MAKING) him watch videos of my old favorites, and schooling on something interesting about the band. In fact, the other day he learned all about how a tragic accident resulted in Def Leppard going from being just another good metal band, to having a one armed drummer, reinventing their entire sound and writing style, and basically inventing a whole new Metal sound, which then catapulted them to being one of the biggest music success stories on the planet. However, at the same time it does make me feel old. Just wondering, anyone else? (FYI: I still think AC/DC is the greatest band to ever exist. You simply can't sit still to an AC/DC song. It humanly impossible:)

    • @kc3678
      @kc3678 3 роки тому

      It doesn't make me feel young or old. It should encourage people that it's possible to carry on a craft well into your years. It amazes me to see John Fogerty perform like he did decades earlier and now I'm a fan. I didn't grow up with his genre of music, I was a victim of my siblings disco, pop, jukebox hits.

    Saw him recently with the Lynch Mob. He played like a demon and stayed around and talked with anyone who wanted to meet him. His wicked, freaky sound and playing can be imitated but not duplicated. He is some kind of blessed, musical genius. I don't even think he quite understands how he does it. Also - the guy who drinks wine and plays better - sure, you just THINK you sound better!

    George has lost some fire. I saw dokken with crokus in the 80's and if I remember right he didn't o d on the delay back then. To tell you the truth I can't stand all that delay. You can't distinguish the notes he's playing. They run together. Definitely think he's the best guitarist that I've ever heard live back in the 80's. As far as the video goes, I've heard him sound better.

    I'm a huge Lynch fan and have been for years......but this is, I don't know.....almost mindless noodling on the guitar it appears. The guy is a monster player for sure, but there doesn't seem to be any direction or cohesiveness to this. I would have preferred a couple of instrumental run throughs to this. His latest recordings rock, but this isn't any more than what you would hear in any music store by a guy trying out gear. Didn't hold my attention.
