Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato Vs Porsche 911 Dakar | Top Gear

- Both the Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato have been specially modified for off-road use, with off-road tires, suspension lifts, and protective underbellies. They are, literally, awesome.
Obviously, it’s not without a certain amount of trepidation - the Porsche costs £173k without options, the Lamborghini just under £233k - so even the inevitable stone chips are expensive. But who cares when both cars redefine the concept of real-world supercars, delivering a level of enjoyment that is different from their high-performance counterparts.
The question is, which one is more fun? Top Gear Magazine’s Tom Ford has the worst job of finding out.

Sport coupe turning into off-road SUV, SUV becoming more track monsters. What a strange world we’re living in.
The former built for Arabs. The latter built for Americans. Both ruin the world for the rest of us.
True. It’d be more fun if Porsche and Lamborghini gave us their version of a Ford Raptor. Lambo should bring back the lm002
Well when you already developed the super fast track stuff for the cars, and the offroad stuff for the SUVs, and they already basically share platforms most of the time, why not go ahead and slap out a track SUV and an offroad car?
True but none of them make an actual off road suv lol
Strange but fun, isn't it? Sometimes a sports car that can go off-road and a track monsters SUV would be a good chance of pace.
Now this is a category of car I can get behind. Offroad supercars.
When the sterrato was first teased I thought "how stupid". And that's as a Raptor owner, mind you. But after watching just one vid on the car (let alone all the ones since) now I can't help but think how much I want one.
Isnt that rally cars do..
@@dawn_alex Well, yes. But also, no.
I wouldn't ever consider buying either of these cars (if I actually could) without actually taking them on wicked backroads or off-roading. To me, the Porsche better delivers on the intended rallycross purpose almost flawlessly, while the Lambo is more of a tounge-in-cheek nod to rallycross with a devilish wink. German vs. Italian ideology. Nice to have the options. Loved the review!
isn't Lambo owned by vw now.....its now German company right?
vw Audi Porsche Bentley share same platform
5.2l v8 present in r8 Audi
Before I even watch the episode , no question asked the Porsche is the first choice by far !
The lambo has more horse power but imo looks better but I’ll choose Porsche over lambo any day especially for the price
Porsche is more practical for offloading harsh terrain and rocky roads. Sterato is suitable for dirt road.
The Dakar is the perfect supercar to own if you lived abroad in a Country where most of the roads are less than perfect (with many unpaved)!
Canada Germany Russia
INDIA
Middle east
I feel like it's perfect for a good earning dude, who lives in Scandinavia or South-Germany, Austria, Wisconsin or something like that and loves to drive sportscars but also wants to visit his favourite ski slopes every weekend. For the Jon Olssons of the world. Otherwise those cars make no real sense. A Mercedes-AMG G63 or F-150 Raptor got way better offroad abilities, more space and general usability and for the Autobahn or general highways a 911 GT3 RS / 911 Turbo S or standard Huracán are the way better tools. So yeah... really two extreme niche products. But I would also prefer the 911 Dakar... it's simply the better offroader and the more reliable car.
6:31 couldn't help but notice you referred to the dakar as the sterato 😂
apparently, all the people who edited and watched this video before us could.
Both these cars are finally capable of running on Indian roads. Finally someone called manufacturers out for using rubber band tires
Shouldn't it be on ya'll to fix your roads, as much if not more so than being on them to accommodate your roads lol
@@SueBartle Well say that about crumbling British roads too.
@@srinitaaigaura Okay? Lol not sure what you're getting at but yea, if the tata (tatra?) Nano was exported to the uk then it would be their own fault if their roads suck which obviously they do.
But while i agree that i don't like super low-pro tires either, i'm just saying that pandering to other countries like china has caused bmw for example to dilute and ruin anything that was great about their cars, stretching wheelbases and stupidly making more and more electric cars, and that these companies should stick to their core values and traditional customers is all. Imo
Chill he just wants a line of sport cars being able to run on Indian roads
Both are Limited Edition.
it's great how, in every review, it's always pointed out how much more fun the sterrato is. and being lighter and actually having a great exhaust note I would not even think about the 911
Yeah, agree 100%
I wish they would've left the Dakars rear seats in instead of replacing them with roll cage. Would've made it more appealing as an everyday supercar
@@heamees4822 It's a shame it's limited production, but I wouldn't be surprised if they realised how many they'd sell if they made it a practical daily. It'd be a new trend. Perfect balance between supercar and SUV; rally.
Reliability. Porsche everyday.
I agree. It's just that the Porsche looks better.
Thank you for your support 🇵🇸❤️
This is the comparison I have been waiting for all year! Thanks guys
the Lamborghini has a wow factor for me the Porsche simply doesn’t, so it’s the one i’d take
Always Huracan > 911
I'd have the 911 and just daily drive it. Honestly no idea why you'd have a normal 911 in stead 😂
Id personally take the Dakar!
I've owned BWM wagons for over 20 years now, I had no idea that I was searching for the Porsche Dakar my entire life! 🤣
two tom fords I adore, one who makes expensive suits that i cant afford, the other one makes great reviews on cars i cant afford :)
The hopeless optimistic in me wants to believe that these two cars are their test bed for their WRC entry 😂
Also, I'd take the Sterrato because I've been "building" rally Huracans in Forza Horizon 4 and 5 to take on "The Gauntlet" races.
Great comparo! How much does a driver have to wonder about dust, rocks, and water fouling the motor? Wish there were a size comparison to this 911 and the original Dakar Safari. It would be interesting to see a Safari version of the 718 since the 911 has grown so large.
The battle i was aiming for!!
looooove the scarf, god bless you, great video btw
Much much much love man 🇵🇸❤️
Nice, I thought no one else noticed.
yeah me too im so glad @@tzs1997
Both should come with an option for a hydraulic handbrake!
I'd have the Porsche! 😍 I just love it. Wonder how much better it'd be if it had the GT3 Engine. 🤯
My cousin is convinced that the Sterrato and 911 Dakar are just as capable off-road as a Defender or Land Cruiser. 🤣🤣
Probably not, but I've seen 911 Dakar do some serious off roading, so as much as I doubt It's as good, It could probably keep up in some terrains. While Sterrato isn't as good as Dakar because It seems too low, I would argue the 911 is more capable on some serious off roading, while Huracan is more of a rally car for the streer.
They are, you're just a hater. I took my sterrato rock crawling last weekend and had to rescue a couple of wranglers who couldn't keep up.
@@ClarkeisawesomeNice to see that you’re also using yours as intended. I took one of my Sterrato’s to Moab last weekend and spent all day rescuing stuck LandCruisers and 4Runners.
Personally my Choice is going to be a 2024 Tacoma trailhunter.
Not likely.
Nice scarf ❤
These cars are great comeback as older supercars had better ground clearance than modern ones
Drag races and roll races of 918 Spyder vs Chiron on prepared surface, please!!! (with the same oil)🙏🙏🙏
I love his scarf
Obviously the Porsche Dakar versión is better, the handling is amazing on track and off road
6:30! you said sterato instead of dakkar! great video tho. enjoyed it
Always on the lookout for a dream sports car that I can use for more than 2 months in the wilder parts of canada.
This is crazy lol I've been using hammer fist type strikes for a long time. Awesome to see someone actually develop a system for it.
Just amagine the dakar with a gt3 engine, but then again the 3L turbo with its good torque lower down is probably better suited 😊
LOL, off-road? Those are just your standard cottage roads here in Canada! I would take the Rothma….errrr….Roughroads vinyl pack and try to keep the interior clean….
I live on Gotland where they filmed this, and there are so much worse roads (with better vistas) where they could've tested the cars. I figured a huge production like Top Gear would scout some more before filming. But at least I got to see these cars live the weekend when they filmed this.
I mean, that V10… what else is there to say…
5y from now most Sterratos will be buckled and worn while the Dakar will still look out of the box
Easier to tell which one was actually driven for its purpose
i absolutely love this guy for the scarf
Got to be the Lambo. It’s the most outrageously paradoxical fusion of engine, brand and appearance there is. To me, that’s what this latest all-road super car phenomena is all about, so the sterrato pips it.
Rather ironically, given how these cars are so silly, I feel as though these are a return to cars better suited to driver enjoyment.
Tenths around a lap don’t make for a better ROAD-car!!
Communication error At 06:34... you probably meant "the Dakar"...
I expected McLaren to build an off-road version of their cars to rival these two
They are going bankrupt soon.
"Mitsu evo " - the best..🤣😎
These are kinda like gravel bikes (I’m calling them gravel cars), you have their road car equivalent like a road bike and then you also have the mountain bike equivalent being the SUV in their respective ranges. Although arguably not really good cars off road
Yes exactly was thinking the same thing. Although arguably a gravel sports car is actually more distinct than a gravel bike which are pretty useless. I mean either widen clearances on a road bike or have the comfort of a drop bar mtb with suspension.
Well done guys next level entertainment
I was waiting for this review
Who changed the outro it was perfect
Muito bom
1:01 wooooah slow down with the technical terms.
At 6:31, I think you meant to say Dakar, instead of Steratto.
Slip of tongue??
Track and environment looks like Gotland and Gotland Ring. Correct me if i'm wrong.
6: 37 was a slip on the tounge i think
I'd take the sterrato any day!
Considering each manufacturer history of durability, Porsche Dakar is my winner.
I get what you're saying but the Huracán too is rock solid reliable.
Aren't both brands practically owned by the same company now? VW I mean. Shouldn't the quality be similar on both of them?
@@kamikakushi_ sadly no. Porsche has adopted Toyota's kaizen approach to it's manufacturing process.
Fantastic review! That's all I can say...
What track are you on?
6:41 Dakar, you mean Dakar
nice but you aint no clarkson, hamond or may
Could you write the ‘buyer personas’ for both these cars?
And would it include the sentence “… and owns already everything there is to buy in the world” ?
Put a rally driver in and let’s see it around a course pinned at the limit. I wanna see what would do better in WRC.
I want them both!
Nice cars for #DDE 🙂
are you going to actually take them off road or just a pebbled surface?
i think the intro is paying homage to the lengendary Mark McCann for building a race circuit on his farm and abusing his lambo.
Can't beat that V10 sound 🔥🔥
Need one of these over normal models in the Midwest just so you don't blow a tire on the shitty roads lol
I’ll take the Huracan in any form. Such a fantastic car and V10
So yeah... really two extreme niche products. But I would also prefer the 911 Dakar... it's simply the better offroader and the more reliable car.
As a poor person who’ll never own a Porsche I settled for a turbo Subaru Outback. It’s 80% the fun for 20% the price.
in short, they do whatever a regular crossover can do.
Tom great review, and the comparison I have been waiting for for a while, I love them both but would choose Porsche :)
Two best cars to ever been created.
that sterrato is awesome with a capital f
I love how the VW Group is basically just having fun at this point. They should’ve done one for the R8 seeing as Audi has a prestigious rallying history and it could’ve been the R8’s graceful bow out.
NA V10 Lamborghini that can tackle Mumbai roads. Perfect. Revuelto Sterrato next?
Love the cars and the scarf! Well done.
PORSCHE 911 DAKAR
Why didn't Porsche put a turbo s engine or an NA GT3 engine???
Old money vs New Money and above all, style vs no style
Wish the dakar was given the 4.0 GT3 engine.
When is the t50 video
The Dakar please. Let me know when your dropping it off at mine.
The most British way to review these cars
good
The off-road section in the video was underwhelming and there wasn't any drifting on the gravel road. Felt like a guy commuting to work. Where is the mud, sand or maybe some little jumps?
sick
I think with the sticker price of a steratto I can get a base huracan and a bronco
the keffiyeh ❤ 🇵🇸
WOW AWESOME VIDEO AMAZING SUPERB MAGICAL BRILLIANT TOP ! ! ! ! ! !
that lambo almost looks like a new WRX
V10 offroad😍😍😍
8:45 how much money did lamborghini pay you to bend your logic like that
We appreciate your courage and your support!
Well I’m gone the shows over let’s all pack up
Finally. I thought I was going to have get my estate manager to decide for me…
If you give one to Mark McCann, he will show you how to drive it😂😂😂
Is the tv show ever coming back?
I know that Dakar is less of a riot but I know if I mess around, break it, that the Porsche dealership is likely to be able to fix it.
everyone, calm down it is happening and its free to watch.
We need a Corvette e-Ray ZR2.
They are owned by the same company and share tech, so can you compare them?
I’ve seen both of these parked in the Google parking lot. And they will never be driven like they are supposed to.
Ah yes, super cars being used and not sitting in a garage or being a centerpiece of a 50m dollar penthouse
