Crazy how fast these little guys grow. My young ones are about 2 and half months and it's wild from day to day how you can visibility see differences. I talked to a few exotic vets near my house and decided to feed mine a little less than the average bearded dragon in captivity gets. In the wild it take them 2 years to reach maturity. In captivity it's going as fast as 10months to a year because we tend to feed them too much. They said it results in bearded dragons with brittle skeletons and development issues in organs. Instead of the twice a day for younger ones, I've been going with once a day and letting my young ones grow a bit slower and hopefully they Will bring stronger dragons over all.

Yes, the changes are unbelievably fast! You might want to check with specifically a Herpetological veterinarian, rather than just an exotics vet. As you already observed, the changes are nearly daily, and they NEED wnough protein as juveniles to support the changes. They develop Metabolic Bone Disease and other issues woth their metabolism if they don’t get enough protein, calcium, and phosphorus as juveniles. Bearded dragons don’t store fat stores until their rate of growth slows down and stabilizes, (around a year old,) so you really can hurt them by limiting their intake at this crucial time of development that will be the nasis of their level of health and wellness for their lifetime. They reach SEXUAL maturity at 2 years old, they are supposed to reach physical maturity at a year old, which means you only have 12 months to fwr them what they need. Their diet naturally changes as they develop, so juveniles that need 80% protein now, will only need 20% protein after the one year mark, which yes, at that point is very important to prevent things like fatty liver disease and gout. Limiting food for juveniles is VERY dangerous from a developmental standpoint. Please reconsider this strategy. You will have plenty of time to alter their diet when they are finished developing into an adult dragon! 😊. Without risk to them of bone, skin/scale, and brain development. Yes, they decelop slightly slower in the wild, nexause their primary food source is all
but absent part of the year, and they are bordering starvation. They brumate in order to survive Australia’s dry season, where food and water are scarce. Evolution took care of that. Limiting their food at this stage, can do unbelievable and unexpected damage. Think of it this way- if your parents decided to limit your formula or breast milk as an infant, so you wouldn’t be an obese adult, they would have been arrested for child abuse, and your development would have been delayed at best, permanently damaged at worst. All of this to say, I believe and can see that you love your dragons and are committed to them, for which I applaud you! Please, please feed the juveniles, (yours are still hatchlings for another month,) let them grow big and gorgeous, and reevaluate when they are fully grown. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. You and your dragons will be so much happier and healthier!! Thanks for watching and for your comment! Good
      Luck! 😁💜👍🏻

Thank you, Donna! She’s definitely something else! 😅. Little stinker! Im SO incredibly happy she’s not seizing anymore! That alone was worth all
the work! She’s definitely going to be hard to part with, but if she stays, the rescue closes until someone passes. 🤷‍♀️. Sigh……it’s a tough one! I would like to have kept them all! 😁💜👍🏻

I’m so sorry for the loss of your sweet dragon. I know that particular devastation all too well. This may not help right now, but I firmly believe they know we love them an entire lifetime’s worth while we have them. As you know, they love us back just as much! Your dragon was comforted, confident, and made happy by how much you loved him/her. When the time comes, and your heart has had a chance to heal a little, let his/her lefacy be that you fill his tank with another sweet dragon that needs you! Big hugs to you until then! 💜💜💜💜
