- They’re survivors. Pristine and powerful, the Trona Railway’s three Baldwin AS616s are museum pieces that work for a living. In Part 2, we examine the Trona Railway’s history and its eclectic diesel roster. And we explore Baldwin’s legacy as a leader in steam locomotion that struggled to survive in the diesel market.
You have a wealth of knowledge Rob...i want to wish you a happy new year! Found a great hobby shop up in Michigan with mdc, athearn and walthers car kits....now to try to get a load south to unload these!
Thanks for the compliment. In all honesty, I just shot some footage and narrated the Desert Dinosaurs program. Bill Christopher deserves the credit for researching and producing the program. He is an incredibly talented person, and our programs wouldn't be anywhere near as good as they are without his expertise. Hapy New Year! RR
IN MY YEARS WITH AT&SF ARGENTINE SHOPS WE HAD A NUMBER OF BALDWIN
6 CYLINDER TURBO 4 AXLE SWITCHERS NUMBERED IN THE 2200 CLASSES!
A FEW OF THEM HAD MULTIPLE UNIT CAPABILITIES!
FOR HEAVY HUMP WORK WE A HAD THE ONLY 2 EMD SWITCHER
COW AND CALF SETS, THE 2418 L&A AND 2419 L&A.
WHENEVER THE EMD COW CALF COMBOS WERE OUT OF SERVICE FOR HEAVY REPAIRS,
THE WOULD LASH UP 2 MU CAPABLE UNITS THEN SHOVE THE HUMPS WITH!
THESE TURBO ENGINES SOUNDED SIMILAR TO ALCO 539 ENGINES, BUT WITH A BIT MORE OF A BARK!
IT WAS QUITE A TREAT
SEEING THEM TIE INTO
A MILE OF FREIGHT CARS AND START SHOVING AND LISTEN TO THE STACK TALK FOR THE FIRST QUARTER MILE OF THE SHOVE!!
UNFORTUNATELY, NO AUDIO CLIPS !!
KEEP THEM ROLLING BROTHERS!!
👍👍
Thanks for the cool words. We will surely keep them rolling. Your comments about the Baldwin switchers reminds me of watching three-unit lashups of N&W T6s switching coal loads at Lamberts Point. The sound was awesome. The was also a T6-GP30 lashup that was kicking cars around. The combined sounds of those two units was unbelievable! RR
Sure would love to see more of that LS&I Munising footage!
We have more. It's just a matter of finding the time to get it out there. We will try. RR
Way to add in the scene of Frisco 1522 on WC to help tell the story. Not to mention a scene of of your follows with the W&C'S CHICAGO JOB. Though I'm curious where that scene with the C&NW geeps, which railroad with the alco has the initials LS&L & how often did you folks visited the E&LS?
Maybe, could it be LS&I. ???
@@user-mr3ct1dm9p Could be.
