That isn't how Lego works though... Like when scalping waws running rampant a few years Lego was unaffected. And this isn't scalping as the 3 dragons can't be given they all are in mainsteam production and the most limited and hard to find one is the cheapsest. Which the guitarist Dragon has no means being that expensive given again that isn'yt how lego works... So it's deffinatly a market thing nothing more nothing less.
@AJB2K3 Yeah the problem is buying up all of the same minifigure. Artificial demand is created because it really shouldn't be that high in demand, but either you think it's going to sell out and go buy a few or you are intentionally using the demand to try and make a dime so you buy as many as possible. There is one other problem though which is 'army building'. Which I understand to some extent, but if you're goal is to buy as many of one figure as possible then they are naturally going to be boxes that will won't have the minifigure. I mean personally I think CMFs should more for collecting one or 2 of each because I would rather not make it harder for someone to complete their collection. Like it's just about being a little courteous and cognicent while shopping.
I tried several Walmart and couldn't find any. One of the employees at the store said someone bought all the ones they had. I ordered a 36ct case after that. I'm probably going to just pre-order cases online now. I can find ppl who want a set and split the cost maybe
I was only able to get mine by taking a fresh box off the top of the shelf and opening it in the aisle. I had scanned an entire endcap shipper and there was zilch.
Funny thing, that those two Vidiyo dragons became so expensive, but those from collectable minifigures have not (Dragon Suit Guy, Series 18 and Green Dragon Costume, Series 23). In my opinion those "costume" dragons are better, because they have tails, and full dragon body print. After swapping the smiley yellow faces for blank black heads, they look just perfect
The thing is, Vidiyo bombed so hard and stores had them on clearance pricing of 75-90% off. Even if you don't like the theme, for a Lego set that is a great price just to get pieces. Now, no one ever thought to use a dragon head on a castle fig until Lego released the DnD series. Being that castle in general is one of the most popular themes ever, that made castle fans and armies builders/collectors want these other colored dragon heads, which in turn skyrocketed the price. Personally, I do not like the look of a 'dragon person' minifig so I'm glad this is not something I care to have. The DnD Paladin without the dragon head has great parts for any castle fan which makes it highly sought after. At most, it may reach the price of CMF Series 20 Raven Knight or Viking, but I don't see it getting to Mr.Gold prices.
I'm not surprised to see all the dragon figs soaring in price. This is a fad though and won't last in the long term. They are cool, but not THAT cool. It remains to be seen how quickly LEGO will be making more dragon(born) figs. They seem to be happy to encourage aftermarket price boosting of figs/sets. This could be related to them now owning BrickLink, or it just may be part of a larger strategy of boosting demand for LEGO overall via artificial scarcity. Who knows. Either way, if more figs come out in 2025-26, this likely won't drastically lower the prices of existing dragon minis, only long term shifts in the collection habits of LEGO fans will do that.
I think it';s mostly because these are some of the highest quilty figs realesed. Being apart of the major Lego miniig feature revulotion going on right now. Like it stated a few years ago with hair under hats and outside of the new Indinain Jhones theme this new tech has gone under the radar. Mostly being afacit of the pick abbrick system and some new and remade characters... The dragons are just the first to be noticed I guess.. So yeah given that they have no reason to be as expensive as they are like you said it won't last long.
There probably will be some reduction. The vidiyo series 2 dragon will probably continue to be somewhat ridiculous because of the limited release of that set. Few markets in the US got any of that minifig series.
Wow, didnt realise they jumped up that much. Ive got 2 red ones, 2 blue ones, 2 green ones and 5 gold ones!! Im sitting on a nice bit of dough. Happy days.
Honestly it's good on Lego for adding a code to the box for people who want the in person search without the mystery... It also just makes sense as a company for Lego to do that as it would be a bad look to go from foil bags to boxs and not give people a way to search them. Also it makes the bad look, look good as tghe boxes are more easly collected and are biodgrable. So a very consumable item won't be such a waste as it can be recycled and while go away in a land fill. Although I wouldn't call it envomntally friendly unless it used recycled paper which would make recyling a little more luctive and not just be a money pit... Over using new paper which isn't a good thing as it wastes wood something we can't afford right now on this planet. Also it keeps some of the search which is a key selling factory in Mystey stuff over people givening up or just buying things outright... Which for Lego as a whole having collatble stuff is a great thing for all invoved.
I bought 2 complete sets of the D&D mini figures, picked up a few extra figures I liked. I like that I can scan QR codes but I still saw a bunch of boxes popped recently at a Kroger … irritating , you don’t have to do that to see what’s inside
Some people probably don't know about scanning. It's a crummy thing to do, especially now that's there's a way to see inside without ripping them open, but I can understand people who do it just to see, so long as they don't steal anything that's inside. But using the scanner(that actually works now) is absolutely the way to go
I don't think I've seen 200 lego minifigure boxes in total, never mind all in one store. Lucky to find one in a shop round here although most stopped stocking them after the switch away from bags when they were getting ripped open.
