got the silver sky SE and I love the way it sounds and the way it plays how light it is and the tuners are tight like locking tuners so I'm pretty happy with it. I also have a custom 24 and a frankensquire that was painstakingly brought to life but that S.S.SE is my go to guitar.

Went from an American Fender Strat to a PRS SE Silver Sky, and I absolutely love it to bits. Comfortability in the neck was mostly the reason why it got me to get it more than the core model. Always loved slim necks

Hmm, Silver Sky SE I tried had a huge neck. When I was younger I thought I liked a chunky neck, but now I play 3 or 4 gigs a week that are usually 4 hours long and a slimmer neck is less fatiguing on my hand. You found the Silver Sky SE to have a slim neck? Maybe I need to try another one?

I went from Fender to Squier. By choice. Well… maybe.
When I picked up this magical Squier Affinity one day at my local shop, all I could think was that that guitar had the stars align during its creation that enabled it to feel and play better than nearly every American (and Japanese) Fender I had ever played.
Tried the same model in different colors, and the magic wasn’t there. I now judge guitars by their individual merit, as the name on the headstock is kinda like the difference between a purebred dog and a mutt from the pound. The pound rescue could be the sweetest dog you ever met, and that purebred dog could have health issues and a bad attitude.

Paid 115 bux for it cuz the guy put fender staggered tuners on it and upgraded the pickups. He also stripped the paint and stained it blue so no one wanted it. It’s my fav in the collection and I play it 90% of the time. Money doesn’t always mean quality

Same brother. I bought a Squier RH Contemporary Telecaster as my first 'real' guitar. Since then I have bought and returned a Fender Player Telecaster, a Fender Player Plus Telecaster, and an Ibanez YY20. They felt worse than the Squier. First of all, I properly enjoy your videos man, always feel soothed by your talking for some reason. I remember the first time I tried out the silver sky when I first came out, felt really letdown but the physical quality of the different components compared to the price tag. Audibly, there's nothing bad to say about it, but the way it sat in my hands didn't make me feel like it was quality, therefore, it was tricky to feel like I want to keep picking it up and enjoy it. Fun to see they're making the SE models now, I'm sure many people will find great value from them. Thanks Mike.

I bought my Silversky in 2019 and fell in love. When the SE came out I obtained a dragon fruit model to play away from home. The SE is absolutely amazing. Sound quality is close, if not indistinguishable. The only big difference is the 2019 plays tight or stiff compared to the SE. Not bad or unplayable just a different feel. I love them both and are my go to guitars.

In about 10 minutes, I'm placing my order for the SE and also in dragon fruit!!! Mayer's tone caught me, but after playing a friend's SE, I knew I had to have it! The crazy thing is I actually like the pickups in the SE a bit more than the Core....SE's tone has a certain "richness and texture" that I have to have!

I've had two Silver Sky SEs in the past... and I was always saying that I would never buy a Silver Sky USA due to what I defined as "unjustifiable price difference". Then... I ended up buying a Silver Sky USA - or core model as they say - and it is simply the best guitar I've ever had. I love it. It is the best for me, because of its tone, feel, and looks (even if I still prefer the Fender classic headstock haha). I do have top guitars in my collection (a Fender 1962 strat, a Gibson 59 Les Paul reissue, and a few guitars made by top luthiers here in Spain) but the Silver Sky is, to me, a step up from all those top guitars. Now... the SE is wonderful I must say. It is the best guitar under 1000 Euros, in my opinion, and in terms of sound it is very close to the core USA model. The key differences really are about feel, in my opinion the different neck profile makes a huge difference in terms of feel and playability... and the looks... but just a bit. Anyway, no one that loves a strat could possibly hate a Silver Sky (SE or core USA model). Nice video Mike!

I have some of the cheaper guitars and I have a few mid range and one expensive guitar. I have the SE Silver Sky and I love it, I have a Slash November Burst Gibson Les Paul and for the first time I could see the price difference and hear it and feel it compared to my others. I probably will never buy another $3,000 guitar again but the difference is really clear. I didn’t realize there would be so much of a difference but with that being said the Silver Sky SE is a truly amazing strat. It gets me those 50s and 60s tones and it is well constructed. I feel they did skip out on the neck a bit but the pickups are outstanding. And it really is a great guitar

  • @tacdoc8736

The SE was the gateway to the Core model for me. The SE is great bang for the buck, but I prefer the Core model by a mile. The pickups are significantly more dynamic & clear to my ears. There's also an objective difference in the fit, finish, and feel of the core model. The fretwork, the rolled fingerboard edges, the quality of the components. It's easily the most tuning stable Strat style guitar i've played, including Fender's most expensive and refined models. To me, it was worth the price difference, but I was patient and bought used, which is always a better value on any guitar. That being said, I'd gig the SE in a heartbeat and it's build quality is better than some considerably more expensive alternatives.

My strat itch was completely scratched by my Reverend Jetstream 390. It’s so balanced, tuning stable, and sounds just killer. No it’s not a traditional strat, but the 3 p90s with a 5 way switch combined with the bass contour knob definitely gets you into strat town no problem. Neck is so good too. Trem is brilliant, locking tuners are great. I never have to tune this thing. They’re an absolute steal for the quality and craftsmanship. I’m sure the silver sky’s are cool too but my Jetstream has it covered.

I just got a US silver sky after playing an SE for a while. I feel like the SE is quite close sound wise, but not nearly as dynamic. Almost like the SE is like a photograph of the sound of the regular version - it captures the sound really well, but the US version just has more dimension IF you really explore the full dynamic range of the instrument. For me, it felt like the difference going up to the US version was huge, but I can also see how for some players, the differences might seem really slight.

I bought my first fender in january last year literally a week before the SE came out and I was kind of upset, but I still managed to get one 7 months later. Its so hard for me to decide which one I would pick if it came down to it. I usually leave my fender in Eb for the Jimi and Stevie type of songs and I think it plays them better in that tuning than the SE does. But I think I may prefer the tone of the SE just slightly more. But then I also think I prefer the maple neck of my fender which makes me lean that way again. smh the never ending rabbit hole of guitar buying. And Im also a sentimental hoarder type and would feel bad getting rid of any of my guitars. I know there are the new SE colorways that have maple necks which is pretty cool. When it comes down to the core silver sky and other guitars of that price range. I do not comprehend how there can be that much of an improvement on the guitars. The SE does have pretty cheap parts for the tuning knobs and whatnot but that as well as the other small adjustments I do not believe equates to another $1400 or however much. Im not that great so maybe one day Ill see.

Been playing Strats for about 30 years. Started with a MIM, then got a CSS, and then got an Am Special (all with maple fretboards). So they put a Silversky SE rosewood fretboard in my hands at GC and I took it home for my 45-day maybe period. After 30 years of Strat maple necks with smaller neck radii it is somewhat of an adjustment. I think the PRS has more acoustic resonance and is super sparkly glassy chimey. Only had it a week but I'll likely keep it. Yeah, those pickups are awesome. It's trem blocked so going back and forth to Drop D doesn't change the whole neck tuning. I think I could go for a slightly thicker neck and smaller radius but playing above the 12th fret is easier because of the sculpted heel. Great guitar, nice to have something similar, yet different, in a good way.

Havent tried the higher end silversky but fir the price you cant beat an American Fender . Also have 2018 American elite tele and love it

Guitar players typically bond with a guitar over the pickups and neck on the guitar. The color, shape, etc are very important also.... it's like when two people meet...or choosing a car ...whats on the outside attracts you from the start but long term you better check what's under the hood.

Core model have some more highs when it comes to tone. In gain tones less noticeable, but sometimes you just want to have that fun getting the tone you heard in your favourite songs. There are some cases you might not get that with SE. The question is, is it worth 3x the price?
Interesting if you could just make SE closer to Core just by messing with the EQ.

I had a core model and the guitar for me was a bit too 'perfect', too clean and I just didn't connect with it. The neck felt great and the pickups were really nice too, but sometimes you just don't click with a guitar. I got the chance to pick up a 61 custom shop and the difference for me was huge

  • @KevTCC

Just got the SE Silver Sky and love it. For me the kneck is far more important than the pickups. I do hear a more saturated throaty sound out of the American version and would like that. The reality is I am a bassplayer with two high end basses and can't justify the cost of the American version for just song writing.
Took a few copies to find one that was clean, QC doesn't seem to match UA-cam reviewer claims... In the end I love it.

The SE Silver Sky is kind of a big deal for me... I've owned 5 different Fender Strats in the last 20 years. I hated my first couple. They just didn't feel very good to me and weren't that fun to play. But realizing it's kind of a crap shoot if you don't take your time to shop and find one that really fits you personally, I was willing to give them a few more tries. Seems like every few years I would get the itch to try one out again because I love that they're so iconic. I love the style. I also love the sounds from various records that have come from Strats... But every time I've ever bought one of them, even when I took the time and did my homework and demoed different Strats, I always get buyer's remorse. The guitar always ends up sitting in the case and I lose interest and stop playing it. When the Silver Sky came out I was intrigued because I've always preferred a PRS. I've really become a huge fan of the SEs. So I decided when the SE dropped I was going to try it and see if I felt any different about it than the Fenders. And I love it. I've owned mine for about 6 months and it's become my #1. Feels awesome, sounds incredible... I do wish they had some more classic aesthetic options, but it checks all the other boxes for me. Maybe I'd feel differently about the Fenders if I had tried out a custom shop model or something... or maybe an old vintage example. But none of the five I owned was ever able to ring my bell. The Silver Sky is a totally different beast.

It’s interesting that PRS puts the SE logo right on the headstock, like a Fisher-Price guitar (“My very first guitar!” To those who know what SE means), while Fender’s MIM line hides the Made in Mexico on the back of the headstock. Is that a marketing move by PRS to get more people to buy the core model? My MIM strat was my favorite strat and I never thought twice about it, but I sold all my fender strats after buying a SS core. This video confirms that I need to try an SE.

I have 5 S2 PRS models (all Satins) and just bought the SE Silver Sky....neck satin, shape and 8.5 radius were a big part of the decision. Also - I don't want a guitar that is pricey enough that I am afraid to actually play it. When you dance over the $2500 line, I know that it will end up being a case queen. p.s. I really do like the SE Silver Sky, it is excellent.

I care most about a guitar’s feel. The sound can be changed by swapping pickups, if need be. But too many guitars just don’t have that feel a PRS or other high-end guitars do.

So I registered for the PRS release stream that happened to be for the Lunar Ice release. Without hesitation, I sent an email that night to the siganture dealer in my area. called them the next morning and i was told i was (somehow) #2 on the list. they took my name and number logged my email and i thought that was that... never got a call back from them even with following up, seems that they took their preorders for staff and ended up reselling them above msrp...i was crushed. still havent pulled the trigger on a SS now. love the way they sound, though i still feel like the furniture feels cheap and plasitc. i.e the tone knobs, selection switch etc.. so now i have no idea if i ever will own one.

That grey piece of plastic on the headstock where the truss hole usually is… can it be removed? Doesn’t work with the beauty of the guitar. Do PRS offer an alternative backplate if you are not a John Mayer fan & don’t like other peoples names on your guitar? These two things put me off buying this Strat homage.

I really appreciate your reviews and videos. My only real constructive criticism is that it would be great if you took a definitive stand (ie "The SE is great for...., but not for......whereas the Core SS is great for...., but not for......". Locking tuners isnt a reason to buy one guitar over another. PRS sells its locking tuners (both Core and SE versions for $120 & $105, respectively). You have both guitars in your hand, with a blindfold on, which do you prefer. On UA-cam, they sound very similar. Keep the reviews coming......
