Wonderful video. As a young aspiring soprano performing in the 1960ies, she was my inspiration. Although I didn’t know the personal story of her life, I did glimpse the allure and the disappointment of that glittering lifestyle. Lacking the talent and stamina required for such a lifestyle, I was fortunate to find other doors which offered me a fantastic, interesting and fulfilling life. Now aged 86years, I look back and marvel at her endurance and realize how fortunate I have been to have chosen the road I traveled.
What a remarkable woman! I firmly believe, most often, when you see a successful woman, you need only look a few steps behind her to find a predatory man, resentful family and/or disapproval from a section of society for some perceived wrongdoing. Thank you for telling these women’s stories without filtering them through the lens of men.

"Trashy Divorces" is a favorite podcast of mine, too, and the Onassis series has been very informative and fascinating. I also recently saw the movie about Callas starring Angelina Jolie; I was glad to have the backstory from the podcast since it only focuses on her final week of life. Gorgeous clothing, beautiful shots of Parisian interiors and architecture, and Jolie is radiant as the doomed soprano. This UA-cam presentation has helped to fill in even more details & I so appreciate that effort!

Maria had an incredible oratory talent, yet she had to battle to get to the top of her profession. She endured many problems and difficulties not of her making from an early age, and Maria's mother's treatment of her daughter when Maria was young, strongly influenced her thoughts and behaviour as an adult. Enduring themes around a woman being used by men, husband(s) included, accused of cooperating with the Nazis, and those sorts of things are evident in Maria's case. Through hard determination she lost a huge amount of weight, was practical and realistic when her voice got a little past her best, and up to then nobody else in the mid-20th century was her equal. The queen of aria. There is a lot more I could write but I would just say her story resonates with me. And she "endured the price of greatness". Maria Callas was a 🏆 champion.

She only married JFK bc she knew he was headed for the white house and she only married Onassis for his name and money. And She didn't care who she hurt with that one, not even her own sister.

@ well, I’m not really sure how to answer that. I didn’t know a lot about Maria Callas but wanted to know more after watching it. I personally couldn’t really connect with who she was because all I could see was Angelina. If I were someone with a love for Opera I would probably wouldn’t care for it very much.
Just watched her bio pic on netflix. When i came across your story about herwhich explained what was not seen in the netflix movie. As usual, job well done.
That's just sensationalised trash with a bad actress who doesn't have the poise or posture; and a cacophony meant to be singing. What an insult. Callas the movie is better because it comprises clips of Callas herself.
My heart is so sad for her. Every mother is the primary support/love/teacher especially for girls when no other parent is available. How could her mother be so beastly? To her sister too! I understand it was a bad time for everyone but the mother certainly made life worse. And then her father…! Poor soul, she couldn’t catch a break with people who should cherish you.
A testament to “Life imitating art”. A very sad testament. Used, abused, rejected from the beginning. Onassis the ultimate cad, his wealth allowing him to court and play women left and right. As someone commented, my heart hurts for her.
This was so beautifully done, and the narration was almost poetic. I am always impressed with your efforts. I hope you don't misunderstand this, and I love your videos, but if you truly want feedback, here is some: Maria was an incredible success, probably the best operatic voice of the century, but her success seemed to be downplayed here in favor of her sad personal life. I love hearing stories of women who beat the odds, and here is a great one. In spite of all the obstacles in her path, she succeeded brilliantly. Why not emphasize that too; why not try to distill how she was able to do this? She had to have great strength, great fortitude in view of all that was against her, and she had to believe she could do it at some level to succeed. She had to have immense discipline and belief in her talent, otherwise she wouldn't have gone as far as she did. Yes, her personal life was sad, but she did a lot with her life.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and insightful feedback! I’m truly grateful for your kind words about the narration and the effort put into the video. I love that you’re so engaged with Maria’s story and her incredible journey. I completely agree with you-Maria’s resilience and success are absolutely extraordinary. In fact, a major focus of the video was to highlight her incredible strength and fortitude in overcoming the many challenges she faced. Her immense discipline, belief in her talent, and ability to rise above obstacles are central themes I tried to emphasize. However, I can see how the personal struggles might have stood out more to some viewers. To me the fact she overcame those challenges, shows how remarkable she was. I believe I used the word resilient at least 10 times, or synonyms of it. My aim was to show how remarkable she was despite the tragedy, if I failed to do that. I am sorry. She was deeply alone, and unhappy, and still she made it to amazing heights. I found the story inspiring, sorry if it didn't hit that note with you. I really appreciate your perspective, as it reminds me how inspiring Maria’s achievements truly are. She wasn’t just a survivor; she was a trailblazer and a powerhouse of talent. Your comment is a great reminder to celebrate the triumphs even more boldly in future stories. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts-it means so much to me! 💖
@@MythicMindScape21 Thank you for your thoughtful response. I really love your channel, and so admire your connection to us viewers. I feel like you're a friend, as are all the commentators here, our own little world of celebrating our women forebearers. You may not realize how important your channel is, to hear of these wonderful stories, and I appreciate your taking my feedback in the spirit in which it was given. I see your point too, maybe my sadness at seeing so much grief in her life led me to see it overemphasized, and not hear the word resilient 10 times! I think we agree about Maria - she gave that wonderful gift of a voice to the world.
Thank you, it is absolutely 'Our" community, and it is a privilege to tell these women's stories. It is why your comments, thoughts and ideas are so vital. This is our world, and we will continue to try and bring these stories to as many people as possible. So many amazing women's stories have been lost to history, hopefully we can do our little part to change that. ❤
I didn’t know Maria’s story. Awful family horrific mother , small fickle men who used her …. Oh but that voice ❤. Even in the winter of her career the voice could go right to your heart or cut you to the bone. I’m glad she found a home in the sea. It was the only entity capable of loving her❤ voice in her prime
Gosh with making these videos, I have little time for anything else. Though next week is the 21st, so maybe just a short one on something as people will be busy. I might actually read a fiction book for fun :)
This one broke my heart. Sadly, her mother's rejection of her as a child became the template for how she would be treated. Onassis was way out of league and knew it. So he clipped her wings so she could not fly. But fly she did. What a gift she was to us mortals. ❤
I grew up in a family who loved Opera -so Maria Callas has always been in life... even though other members were preferring others ! Very interesting video, thank you ! 🧡✨
I want to thank you so much for the life story of Maria Callas. In late 2021 I lost my beloved, beautiful Italian born Father, who was the reason why I loved music so much. I was tasked with choosing two songs for the short video of his life to be played at his funeral. I had 3 days to do this. I listened to thousands of songs - nothing was doing it for me. These songs for me, had to reflect the profound love I had for him and the excruciating loss I felt of his passing. Then I stumbled on Maria Callas singing O Mio Babbino Caro (Oh my dear Papa) by Puccini. WOW. That was it. The first song I chose. I cried and cried and cried. I had not known of her ever, but the feeling her voice gave me (and everyone on the day) was deep. I vowed I would one day look into the life of this incredible talent, and here I am. Thank you again. I love history, and your channel. LOVE IT xx 🇦🇺❤Teresa
Brava, brava bravissimo! ❤Unapologetic, hard working, struggling for her art, enduring ,she confronts life on her own terms….all fraught with the instability provided by merciless men and family…in an era when women were not supposed to excel, she persevered…what a woman, hats off to her! Thank you for bringing this to the light.
I have also admired her. Such a wonderful voice.... but a life full of self doubt, rejection and hurt. She longed to be loved fir herself. Thank you for such a well spoken monologue. Well done.
Thank you for yet another deeply engaging story. Ms. Callas’s mother, mentally ill, and also armed with dastardly, destructive manipulation, somehow did not crush her daughter. Her spirit and history of being with the wrong people ought be a lesson and warning for others.
Absolutely incredible. I had to pause watching to process my own heartbreak on this remarkable woman’s life. She deserved so much better from the people who exploited her talent and good will. Thank you for chronicling this journey with compassion: may she rest in peace 🕯️
This was an incredible production. Your way with words and deep understanding brought Maria's life of triumphs and tragedy alive with poignancy and compassion. Thank you..
Okay, that was epic, (I hate that word!), but this was the best yet! All I “know” about opera is every time my mother tuned into the performances on CBC radio on the weekends I got the hell out of the house! It was always opera and/or Sarah Vaughan with that woman! One point made tweaked another memory and that was the feud between Miss Callas and Renata Tebaldi, I remember Mummy saying Miss Tebaldi was the superior soprano! Can’t help wondering if her opinion was her own or the result of media bias, teehee! Again, I’m perplexed by how/why the fates always seem to deliver the most gifted into poisonous families. This film had quite a few little chestnuts for me like mandrax, when I was in high school there was a brief period that it was a popular recreational drug, I swear 1/3 of the kids had something in a plaster cast. Someone was always flopping down the stairs or falling out of a window! Then there’s the last concert in Hamburg. Never having heard Maria sing, I looked for a video of Una Voce Poco Fa which is the only 5 minutes of opera that I love. Anyhoo, that concert popped up first and you can tell she’s struggling. If you’re interested, check out Victoria de Los Angeles singing it on UA-cam, gives me chills every time. As usual, I’m a bit pissed off that life hoovers the best and brightest into the lousiest situations. I mean look at this girl, so talented and what a looker, cheekbones, eyes, exquisite profile, she really was the total package. By the way, I checked out your “clues”🤨 before watching and needless to say, I got nuthin’ but you did craft a lovely and moving short story. Thanks Beauty for making my Sunday. Now then, time to watch those dodgy Bouvier girls again! Best regards💐
your comments are always such a delight to read-thank you! 💕 I’m so glad this one resonated with you, even if it dredged up memories of escaping CBC radio weekends! 😂 Opera and Sarah Vaughan on loop-I can just imagine you plotting your escape route while your mom was in her musical heaven. Ah, the Callas vs. Tebaldi feud-it’s iconic, isn’t it? I love that your mom was firmly Team Tebaldi! (Media bias? Perhaps! Or maybe she just had an ear for greatness! 😉) And you’re so right, the fates seem to have a dark sense of humor when it comes to gifting incredible talent to families that often bring nothing but drama and heartbreak. It’s one of those maddening, bittersweet truths, isn’t it? I love that you dove into Callas’s last concert and "Una Voce Poco Fa"-what a haunting contrast. That Hamburg performance is gut-wrenching to watch, but it’s so real, so human. And thank you for the tip about Victoria de Los Angeles-I’ll absolutely check her out (I already know she’s going to give me chills, too!). And you nailed it-Maria Callas really was the total package: beauty, grace, and a voice like no other. But as you so beautifully put it, life can be so unfair to the brightest stars. I’m thrilled you enjoyed the clues (even if they kept you guessing until the end!) and that the story felt meaningful to you. Your words genuinely made my day. Now go enjoy those “dodgy Bouvier girls”! 😉 Maria didn't like them either. Sending love and gratitude your way, 💐💖
"I do not cry on tragedy, I cope with it" Maria Callas is the greatest opera singer of all times and her thoughts and opinions shared in video interviews are inspirational. Just watched the biopic at the cinema and it was made for Angelina Jolie, not for the legendary La divina....
That was an intense and exhausting video. I can’t imagine what it was like to research it. Trying to find words but am having a difficult time. Thank you for all you do.
Thank you so much for this wonderful documentary! I am a lover of Maria Callas and I have to say that I learned so much more tonight. …you really went in depth, and you did not hide the messy and humiliating part of her life. The same time you took us all over the world with her performances and you share her success in all each glory. So magnificent! The only thing that I would change if I could in your documentary it would have been the rotation of the photographs according to her age.
Thank you, i could not stop listening to the sad and remarkable story of Maria Callas. What a tragedy, for some one so unique. Magical voice, used by absolutely everyone. Life was SO cruel to her. So poignant a story. Laying on my bed on a very hot day (40degrees) in Victoria, Australia, thank you for transporting me to classic European glory. Nothing like it here. Your rendition too, was lovely. Thank you . From Uk susie

This was narrated so poetic and so beautifully, just like Maria. Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
Excellent video! Very well written ❤
Thank you very much.
I didn’t know Maria’s story. Awful family horrific mother , small fickle men who used her …. Oh but that voice ❤. Even in the winter of her career the voice could go right to your heart or cut you to the bone. I’m glad she found a home in the sea. It was the only entity capable of loving her❤
voice in her prime
christ did this woman have a happy moment in her life 😭
Exactly what a horrible life...
Beutiful lady x
I've listened to other UA-cam Narrators But your Voice Still stands out the Best to me As have you thought of Narrating Audio Books too?
Gosh with making these videos, I have little time for anything else. Though next week is the 21st, so maybe just a short one on something as people will be busy. I might actually read a fiction book for fun :)
Maria's life is a true Orthodox life.
You make it enjoyable,a sad life.
This one broke my heart. Sadly, her mother's rejection of her as a child became the template for how she would be treated. Onassis was way out of league and knew it. So he clipped her wings so she could not fly. But fly she did. What a gift she was to us mortals. ❤
What a beautifully tragic
woman and artist. She
deserved so much more💔
Yes, she did.
Wow...it's sad ...no one knows what someone is going through be kind❤😊
"La Callas." One of the greatest opera singers who ever lived. I have a CD containing the Puccini arias she sang back in 1954.
Oh my God… what a story.. I feel very close to her after this beautiful tribute.♥️🙏😢
I grew up in a family who loved Opera -so Maria Callas has always been in life... even though other members were preferring others ! Very interesting video, thank you ! 🧡✨
Thank you.
What a beautiful and touching story, thank you for sharing. God Bless.

I cried so much during her story. What an amazing woman, but so cruelly treated by those who she loved
She achieved so much, in such difficult circumstances.
How could ANYONE ridicule or belittle such an incredible and talented woman? She is stunning, during every stage of her life! Bravo Maria!! ❤
Thank you
Absolutely incredible. I had to pause watching to process my own heartbreak on this remarkable woman’s life. She deserved so much better from the people who exploited her talent and good will. Thank you for chronicling this journey with compassion: may she rest in peace 🕯️
Thank you so much.
This was an incredible production. Your way with words and deep understanding brought Maria's life of triumphs and tragedy alive with poignancy and compassion. Thank you..
Thank you so much.
Thank You 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
your comments are always such a delight to read-thank you!
Sending love and gratitude your way,
💐💖

"I do not cry on tragedy, I cope with it" Maria Callas is the greatest opera singer of all times and her thoughts and opinions shared in video interviews are inspirational. Just watched the biopic at the cinema and it was made for Angelina Jolie, not for the legendary La divina....
That was an intense and exhausting video. I can’t imagine what it was like to research it. Trying to find words but am having a difficult time. Thank you for all you do.
Thank you my friend, glad you liked this one.
Thank you. I agree. Sometimes I rush a bit in the editing. One day I will hire an editor :)
Thank you so much for watching, hope you get some cooler weather. Bet you don't miss the UK winters though, 6 months of rain and a little snow.
Magnificent and well written about Maria Callas. I was captivated. Thank you !
Thank you

I think I would love the Shirley Temple bio.
I will do one, if people continue to like the hollywood videos. I try and do a hollywood story once in three weeks.
Extraordinary woman. Thank you for this excellent story.
Thanks for listening
Thank you for this in-depth narrative on La Diva. You have done an excellent job at making us see the true woman, the one offstage from childhood. It’s rare that I commend UA-camrs , but you have certainly gained a fan.
Thank you so much
