- Do not buy a combo washer dryer. I know, this is a hard pill to swallow for those of us who have dreams of a quick, smooth laundry process, but in our 9 months of experience, I can personally tell you that this machine is NOT ready for the sales floor. This isn't must my observation, but also a few friends who also purchased these machines right out of the gate.

So what went wrong? Error Code 353, otherwise known as a critical compressor overheating, on repeat. This left us with clean, wet clothes. While not ideal, at least we could air dry at that point. I called for a service guy, and one was dispatched the very same day. Awesome, right? The problem was, he left us unable to WASH or DRY, with a guess of 5 to 7 business days for him to get the necessary part (new heat pump) and return.
Fast forward 5 days, and I received a call from the service company. The part was on back order for the next SIX WEEKS! Already almost 1 week in, this meant approximately EIGHT WEEKS without any laundry in our home, during baseball season, with 5 games per week.
Luckily for me, the customer service team at our appliance store is amazing, and replaced it with the Speed Queen set we were eyeing from the beginning. Speed Queens are know to last an average of 25 years, and are the recommendation of every appliance guy we've spoken to in the last few months, as well as the salesman.
If you're looking at a new laundry set up, and want a product that will last, it is NOT a combo unit. Hopefully they will improve on them as time goes by.

I have this unit, took me week to figure out there was an issue. The filter allows lint to plow by and blog the heat pump coils, cuaseing it to increase dry times and over heating. However, there is fix, a couple videos on UA-cam show the fix, add weather stripping to back, and bottom and top. I did this and now have never had any lint in the lower drain plug filter. Works great now, no issues. I was super frustrated until I figured this out.
I know exactly the post you are referring to. I am using the silicone sealant around the filter. I also clean out the filter and area after EVERY use (and when using the new Pet hair feature, I clean the filter before the wash starts, to remove hair and dander from the filter). I've never had clumps of lint inside the filter chamber. My machine is 7 months old and I really love it. Fingers crossed that the machine will last - for both of us. Good luck!
I have had my GE all in one for about 3 weeks and I adore it. I am a bit nervous about longevity, so I am diligent about cleaning the lint and got those lint brushes. We did purchase a warranty just in case, but man laundry is a breeze right now!
I know! We did love the ease.
I hope you don’t have the same experiences we did. It was smooth sailing for 7 months.
Keep it clean for sure!
Love my Speed Queen!!!
Yes, we wanted an all in one, but now that we’ve had both, I’m sold on them.
Fast, simple, and effective.
Geez. 9 months isn't very long. My machine is 7 months old. Fingers crossed. I really hate to have to go back to a 2 machine laundry and outside venting of the dryer. Thanks for the recommendation. I sincerely hope I won't need it.
Same here. My husband wasn’t happy with the outside vent being back in the game, or the 2nd machine. That said, it’s WAY faster, and we haven’t had one thing stuck in the door gasket completely soaked.
I really hope they nail it down, but it just wasn’t here yet, no matter how much I cleaned it.
Best of luck!
Oh no! We got one a few months ago based on some of these UA-cam reviews. Crossing my fingers that this is not an issue across the board.
Crossing my fingers for you! It’s definitely a fabulous idea, and I hope they work out for others better than they did for us.
lawd and I'm literally pondering getting 2 to put side by side ugh
Well if you have 2, the 2 month wait for parts wouldn’t be so terrible? 😆
I don’t regret the purchase, but I’m grateful to have my Speed Queen set now. Sometimes the “new/cool” toy just isn’t quite ready.
Good luck with your purchase.
I have the front load speed queen. This thing is the best washer I’ve ever had.
We’ve had an uneventful laundry room since we got our SQ set.
Clean, quick loads. No warnings. No nonstop maintenance. I’m happy with the swap, although I do wish the other had panned out better.
@@thehometownhomestead yup you push the start button and it actually starts. No sensing or any of that fancy stuff. It starts filling immediately
Oh I had GE wash machine Bad News Will not have a GE washing machine again. Bad News 😮😮😮
i have both speed queen and ge combo. My all in one is in my house and the speed queen is in my garage.
The wait wouldn’t have bothered me if I had the Speed Queen backup!
That sucks that your washer/dryer quit in you. No mom wants to go sit at a laundromat to do laundry ever.
You are correct! That said, my mother-in-law is a lifesaver and lives 4 minutes away. She took care of it for us, so we didn't have to use a laundromat.
Thanks for watching!
@@thehometownhomestead I'm happy for you that you didn't need to go to the laundromat. Thankful for family.
Every single day!
Happy to see you were able to get good customer service in swapping out your washer/dryer!
this product deserved an automatic class action suit. everyone should have gotten a refund for this issue. we have the same model. pump failed twice now.
It’s SUCH an awesome idea… it’s just not there yet. I’d escalate and ask for a refund.
Sorry for your bad luck!
We are having the same issues.
Had first repair tech out. Even tho we showed him a picture of error 353, he said he couldnt find anything wrong.
Then it will happen again. It gets more frequent. I’d record it and complain to GE if they don’t fix it. It’s reaching a crazy temp to throw that error,
That's because it's not a dryer, it's just an overpriced washing machine that is sold as a washer dryer combo. We don't currently have the technology to make a washer dryer combo, unless you count a robotic arm that will load clothing from your washer to your dryer for you.
My rule of thumb: NEVER buy the first iteration of a new product!
Well, with the known longevity of the Speed Queens, it was our only shot before we’re 70, and empty nesters. 😆
Water and electricity do no mix so I have a hard time thinking this is a good thing. A washer is one thing a dryer on a larger circuit, no thanks. Good luck to you
What? Everybody has done this for 50 years. Or more.
this unit actually connects to a regular outlet 15A 120v
This machine uses a heat pump for the drying function.
GE is stupid crap! Speed Queen is the indie rock of washers and dryers.
I have to say, I have been super impressed so far.
Thanks for watching!
What a piece of crap device
Expensive Boat Anchor was the affectionate term around here for a time. 😆
