I think they were trying to have a little privacy. They were both very, very young and very famous. It is difficult to start a relationship in which the public know more about your partner than what you learned to know. Anyway, every time she talked about him, she talked very well, and vice-versa.

Julia Roberts was already an established movie star in 1996. By that point, she had had several box office hits -- *Steel Magnolias* (1989), *Pretty Woman* (1990), *Flatliners* (1990), *Sleeping with the Enemy* (1991), *Dying Young* (1991), *Hook* (1991), *The Pelican Brief* (1993). @@lorraineb.4698 Well, *Mary Reilly* (1996) was a major box office failure. That same year, she also appeared in the flops *Michael Collins* and *Everyone Says I Love You,* which made people question her longevity, especially after the emergence of Sandra Bullock in the smash hits *Speed* (1994), *While You Were Sleeping* (1995), *The Net* (1995), and *A Time to Kill* (1996). However, Julia Roberts bounced back the following year and had hit after hit for the rest of the decade: *My Best Friend's Wedding* (1997)), *Conspiracy Theory* (1997), *Stepmom* (1998), *Notting Hill* (1999), *Runaway Bride* (1999). Thus, it was only in the mid-1990s that Roberts' career was in any peril, starting with the disaster *I Love Trouble* (1994), which received more coverage about her contentious relationship with co-star Nick Nolte during the making of the film.

She made a statement to a director saying she will work in friends only if she got a chance to work with mathew perry. The director then told him to send her some flowers since she liked him. He did and they faxed each other a lot back in that time and eventually started dating. She was the one who started it. Later they broke up because mathew was fighting his own demons thinking he will get abandoned so he left her.

Its so sad it didn't work out between them u could tell Julia liked him a lot and they were a fun pair back then ❤
