Looks like a cool peak. Definitely from a distance that scramble looks sketchy, but everything you showed made it look not that bad when you actually got into it. I always forget how close southwestern AZ is to the ocean (I guess it depends if you consider a gulf part of the ocean). I've read that the U.S. intended to acquire access to the Gulf of California with the Gadsden Purchase, but was misled by Mexico during negotiations and did not end up acquiring it, but I can't find anything online with a quick Google search to corroborate that.
Hi Nate, it was definitely a fun peak. We all enjoyed it. We probably could have stayed right on the ridge a little more, but some sections we had to go around, and usually lower than we wanted. Yes, it really isn't far from the gulf. I could see the peak in Mexico (Cerro Del Pinacate) to the southeast that we drive by on the way to Rocky Point, but I didn't point it out in the video. That's interesting if the US tried to do that. It would make sense if they did, since it would be another access point to the ocean. There are two more of the prominence peaks in that area, so hopefully we'll be back soon for them.
Wow, I sure wish we got some direct access to the gulf from AZ, maybe a sliver of land down to the coast by continuing the AZ boarder due west as it proceeds near Nogales. We could have routed some of that CAP water down to the town and built an Alexandria of the New World. Who am I kidding, it would be tacky and classless, just like Yuma, or Avondale, AZ. Oh, well, a fella can dream....
@@Winterascent, it would be nice to have that access. My wife wishes Rocky Point/Puerto Penasco was part of the US to have easier access to the beach. I guess we'd have had to acquire all of Baja California too if we were to cut it off from the rest of Mexico though.
@@Winterascent, I've been hearing about that one more and have looked into it just a little. I'm pretty sure we can see that from Rocky Point. It's neat to have a 10,000 ft. mountain there.

@@ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainerIf the USA had El Picacho Del Diablo, I would be happy. That summit looks like an awesome place.
