Hello Tim...I love your attention to detail but, love even more, the ability to do a professional staining job at so little cost.....who doesn't like saving money ? Well done sir !
I have used your stain techniques and love the look. Coming back home to the black hills this week and look forward.to the beautiful scenery for a couple weeks!
As always, very professional with attention to detail. I love your work! And thank you for the drone footage you include at the beginning and end. Oh and the guest appearance of the ladder holder ;-)
Love the sprayer, I setup a schutzT spray gun and it works great, handles the heavy practicals very well, no plugging on the tip. Very nice job on the cabin.
Looking great. I have a 1960 Chevy pickup with the factory original wood bed. The only reason it didn't rot away was because of the Diesel and used motor oil treatment's over the years.
@@GreatPlainsCraftsman how are you and the family doing OK I hope 👍 Stay safe and keep well, that barn will be another building that is going to look 100 years old when done 👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Coming along nicely! Amusing to see your drone get into a dogfight with swallows-at least that’s is what bird they appear to be. Reminds me of ww2 footage of b-17’s getting strafed by Messerschmitt 109’s. Your ranch land is just beautiful.
I think your twisted timber was more a result of where it was cut from the log than being green. The old timers would hue their timbers from the centre of the log giving straight vertical grain above and below the centre. But I realize you have work with what you have, great job keeping it to a minimum.
Seems really good, how is it seem a little bit opened? I mixed with used engine oil with diesel 50/50 ratio. And got really a dark black colour. How did u achieve a opened colour like a stain sir?
@@GreatPlainsCraftsman Have you ever apply acrylic paint over wood previously treated with oil and diesel? If that was the case, did the paint stick well?
Cabin coming along nicely Tim, the footage at the intro and finish of the video is just beautiful, what a country, I sincerely hope that it recovers from the vicious virus that is taking a frightening toll on its people. Stay safe Tim.
Did you use 60 percent diesel and 40 percent oil? Also, does the stain bleed at all? (i.e. could it be used on a picnic table and not 'stain' someones pants?
This was a privilege for me thank you so much great memories of real men .your back drop reminded me as a kid of the old westerns i saw on a saturday in the movies 1790s to 1830s have a look your self color and everything .....Ref the old tool box opening.
Thats a good looking cabin! Love the way the stain turned out. I'm going to try that recipe on my wood fence next time I stain it.
Go for it!
Brilliant, I'd never seen that gable treatment before. Solves a potential problem, simple and looks good.
Thanks Kevin

This is a great looking building Tim! Proportions are right on! This will be great for years to come!
Thanks Brother

Thanks, the wind and over spray were too great so had to brush it on

It does work! Thank you!
My granddad done his 64 Chevy with just used motor oil. Lasted over 40 yrs! He would do it once a year.
Cabin turning out great, that area where you live is absolutely gorgeous!
Keep em coming! 👍

Stunning intro Tim 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great videos! Great job on the cabin! I like the finish! Also, would be great to see a time lapse video on the timber frame barn.
Thanks Brian, I will work on it.
Is this a cabin to live in or a shop / storage building? I guess you'll cut window openings later. The stain looks great.
Just storage William
Just curious about the smell. With the oil and fuel smell dissipates in time or does it always have it used oil smell to it?
It takes a couple weeks for the smell to dissipate Chris, then it is ok.
I was thinking the same thing.
Thank you for sharing that project. I wonder how long is that diesel/oil mixture smelling?
It takes about a week for that Gerry
Is the 60/40 measurement by volume or by weight, and which is the 60?
Volume, and the diesel is the 60
You didn't use enough duct tape! :). That finish is fantastic!
Thanks Milton!
Way to go, Lieutenant!

LOL I know! They were pretty angry with it for some reason. Thank you Geoff
Beautiful house i'm like sheers from Indonesia 🇮🇩 big like world strong 💪👍👍🤝
Just curious why you stained this with the diesel/oil and then moved to Benjamin Moore for the timber frame. Pros/Cons? Thanks for your help!

mix more diesel in. 60/40 or even 70/30
Hi, the proportion is %60 diesel and %40 used oil? And actually how long this stain will preserve the wood do you think?
yes. I think it will last my lifetime
Did you apply used oil mixed with diesel to green wood?
If that was the case, did the oil and diesel penetrated the green wood?
Yes, it worked just fine.

@@argotcalo5575 No, and no ot would not stick as the oil stays in the wood.
can you tell us the detailed 60:40 of what? 40% is used oil, what is the other 60%?
Diesel fuel Liz. That's it.
good show. thanks for sharing. the stain looks great.
Keep it up and you won't have anything to do. Except for the Honey-do list.
HA Ha I wish.
Great job Tim, really looks great. Thanks for sharing with us, Fred. 👍👍

Your drone got attacked. :)
Yes it did Ray, they even hit it at one point. Crazy

Where do you get your used oil?
Good stuff, thanks for sharing your experience & knowledge
I miss viewing your videos. I hope that your winter has not been too difficult and that all are healthy.

Very nice! I could watch your drone footage for hours. Very pretty there in mid to late summer!
Thanks Matt!
Great video, looks awesome. Great job. Hoping for more videos soon?
Yes, soon
Nice work. Glad to see some common sense lol. How many coats did you apply?
Thank you. Just one coat is all that is needed.
