Hilarious deleted scene from the documentary We Jam Econo: The Story of the Minutemen. BUY THE DVD: www.plexifilm.c... "All I eat is squid!" -- Mike Watt.
When they cut to that wide angle, showing the enormity of his record collection, I saw beams of light and heard angels sing. Truly that is the Promised Land.
Thurston Moore is one of the nicest people in rock n roll. I was waiting outside the 9:30 club before a Sonic Youth show and I see Thurston and Lee, just chilling outside the tour bus, alone. I didn't want to look stupid or anything (because they are my IDOLS) but I really wanted to meet them. So my boyfriend told me to go up to them and I did. Thurston talked to me about our mutual favorite bands for about 10 minutes and when I shyly asked him to sign my ticket, he did. And then HE hugged ME!!!
I find this really funny. Thurston's impression IS spot on. I was at a Mike Watt concert in San Francisco... maybe 1999 or so, not sure. I stepped out for a spoke, and suddenly Watt himself was out. I told him I drummed, and George had always been a big influence. In any event... it was cool, he said he just loved the SF skyline(me too) after that I let him go his own way... me too.
The impersonation of Rollins is actually genius. Watch the Liar video and you'll see that head movement in action....you can just see him at the gig looking out of place like that...
I saw Sonic Youth, Jesus Lizard and local band Dirt in Atlanta at Center Stage in early 1990s... Killer show... Later saw Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon at Wax N Facts music and ‘zine store in Little Five Points... Good times!
he said "if i go to a boozh joint" - sounds weird, but the minutemen had a bunch of in-joke slang like that. "boozh" meant bourgeois, "mersh" meant commercial, etc.
I mean, seriously, he's only a skeleton. His body's just a series of joints. With no height, length, or width. Buuuutt, in his JOINTS, he feels pride. And, of course, that is his only connection.
I'll never forget seeing SY with fIREHOSE at the Spirit in San Diego. I videotaped part of the show and it's on my channel. Before the show started I went to ask for permission to videotape, and they were all sittig in or standing around the tour van.
When I met Thurston Moore a few weeks ago, he was buying records and now all I'm thinking is that they're sitting right there in that room. How quaint.
That record collection is incredibly large haha. How would you remember what you had. He probably just puts on random shit he cant even remember if hes heard before.. and thats cool I guess.
@@paulrevere2928 A lot of jazz in there too, Thurston is into jazz a lot, so is Mike Watt. I remember Watt playing John Coltrane after a gig and talking about it on the microphone.
@gingereades you got that right gingereades! Mike's opera, he says, "'Hyphenated-Man' is a voyage into the middle, without being all sappy about it. You played the game, but still you confront yourself: What is 'Man'? In middle-age you start asking yourself these questions, and it." His bass playing to me gives him the status of the father of punk bass cos he's so kick-ass!
If all I had to do in life was talk and jam with Thurston Moore (or with Sonic Youth in general), I would be in eternal euphoria. Long live Thurston Moore and Sonic Youth!!!!
really liked that cheap guitar there.i'll bash the shit outta that guitar.go nuts with a cheap peavey guitar amp and a fender bass amp with a built in gain knob.
It's a Zim-gar. They were a cheap Japanese brand. I recognise it because my best friend who lived across the street growing up from me had one; it was his first guitar. The irony is that we considered them crappy entry-level guitars in the 1980's, but now there are people who actually collect them!
Watt is a pure soul. San Pedro's finest.
YOU GOTTA WATCH THE MOTIN THURSTON YOUR MEMORY GOES OUT THE WINDAH
Callin from a punk phone booth.
motin? you mean MOTA
Providence
I'm a grown ass man and "Cohesion" kicks! my teary-eyed butt every time....
That Mike Watt impression is pretty spot on
When they cut to that wide angle, showing the enormity of his record collection, I saw beams of light and heard angels sing. Truly that is the Promised Land.
Nah. (Source: I used to own a record store)
I like this, I like seeing Thurston just talk naturally about something funny. I rarely ever see him genuinely smile or laugh.
Met Thurston this year and he was lovely, really went out of his way for me and my girlfriend for a chat and a picture x
he really went of his way to have decency. applaud applaud
3:08 and 4:06 living rent-free in my brain for weeks after watching this. Shit's so funnny.

Ha
Majesta Duncan And he also cheated on his girlfriend by the way. It makes him a nicer guy :)
Rj Rose Everyone makes mistakes.
@@rjrose2379 you’d be surprised how unusual it is to not cheat on your partner these days.
i like the close up on his guitar strings where hes bending them up.
it shows his inner struggle.
:)

If this was deleted, they made a mistake.
"YOU LIKE HELL?"
I get excited every time he turns his head and I can see the marvelous mole.
I think we could call the beginning of this video, "Thurston Moore does a very great impersonation of Watt"
IF I’M GONNA GO TO A BOOJSH JOINT THEY BETTER HAVE SQUID
I think of that line about once a day
What could be romantic to Mike Watt?
anything but thurston moore
I mean, seriously, he's only a skeleton. His body's just a series of joints. With no height, length, or width. Buuuutt, in his JOINTS, he feels pride. And, of course, that is his only connection.
He's only a skeleton
Perhaps a sex disease or a stop sign?

I'm laughing myself sick at the Mike Watt voice.
the steady drip of his drool dropping to the floor of his trailer
We met on these two planes; seafood and punkrock. fucking squid haha!
i have a feeling everything you do is awesome.

I understand why they deleted this scene.
The Watt impression should have been included tho

When I met Thurston Moore a few weeks ago, he was buying records and now all I'm thinking is that they're sitting right there in that room. How quaint.

When Im old ugly and unsightly, Thurston is still going to look the way he did in 1990

Your UA-cam handle is awesome. Great work.
That record collection is incredibly large haha. How would you remember what you had. He probably just puts on random shit he cant even remember if hes heard before.. and thats cool I guess.
Nah record collectors like that know where everything is like punk rock librarians...
@@paulrevere2928 A lot of jazz in there too, Thurston is into jazz a lot, so is Mike Watt. I remember Watt playing John Coltrane after a gig and talking about it on the microphone.
I would love it if thurston didn't have a record player...
Richard Hell and squid.
The Anti-Club! That place was rad!
Lol. I was at that Club Lingerie show. There weren't many people there. Didn't know Watt was. El Duce of The Mentors was, though.
Before Courtney had him killed
That is funny as hell....

Quite impressive record collection I would say...
At 2:25, when they zoom out, can you spot Metal Box there on the right? 😄
If all I had to do in life was talk and jam with Thurston Moore (or with Sonic Youth in general), I would be in eternal euphoria. Long live Thurston Moore and Sonic Youth!!!!
id love to get my mits on that record collection....
Mean mr mommy man!
i think theres a link up there to buy it if you want it....
Me, Thurtson Moore, and Colm O'ciosoig all look similar. That's freaky and cool at the same time.
That's why they call themselves Sonic Youth
Naw, string tree goes across all strings, not two. Probably a Teisco or something along those lines.
Thurston is the coolest guy ever. Talk about intergrity.
GO FORTH AND THRASH!
Great scene, haha.
Anyone who knows what guitar it is?
Who’s record collection is that
thurston moore is fuckin funny
Sounds like mike was making fun of him and he still doesn't get it.
