Hi Laura, new friend here. January's pantry challenge is wonderful for so many reasons - especially the sense of community it brings here on YT! Good luck with making the most of the challenge, growing your channel and building your tribe!
Hi there from a cold, frosty Scotland 🤗. I love watching pantry challenge videos, it gives me good ideas for my own version of pantry challenge. The pasta dish you made looked yummy btw. Certainly something I would eat 🤗 Every couple of months I do a version of your pantry challenge. I go thru what’s in the freezer and food cupboards and use up all the bits and bobs that aren’t enough for one meal but together make a few meal. For instance I made vegetable soup with bits of veg that needed used up, last of my garden tomatoes, dried pasta (handful left in the bottom of the box)and veg rice leftovers. So I put it all in my slow cooker with some veg stock, fresh herbs from my garden and let it slowly come together. It was lovely with sourdough bread. I also made a big crustless quiche with dried chickpeas that needed used up, veg that needed used up from fridge, smoked sausages (left over from prev nights dinner ). I also have a “picnic dinner” every month or so with frozen food that’s got one or two items left in box which aren’t enough for a full meal and dried foods (pasta, rice, couscous etc). It’s amazing the amount of lovely meals you can make from leftovers or bits n bobs from cupboards, freezer and fridge. Thank you for sharing your pantry challenge. Love and light 😊
Scotland! Amazing! That all sounds wonderful! I’m way more adventurous than my husband and for me you can never go wrong with a soup! Absolutely missing garden season here but my seed order did just arrive! Picnic dinner is an amazing idea and I will be trying it!!!
no matter how bad you burn something in stainless steel you can always get it clean. I switched in 1999 and have never gone back. If your salsa had any vinegar in it, that is what made your cheese curdle.
Participating in the challenge.. I usually do it quarterly. Great way to get creative with odds and ends in the freezer and items we've purchased while on sale.
New friend & Sub here from the pantry challenge. I haven’t started my challenge yet, I’ve been sick since right after Christmas. Hoping to get started next week. Excited to see all the tasty stuff you come up with. 💜
You can put water in those stainless pans with a little baking soda, let it heat up and the gunk will rinse out making them so easy to clean with little scrubbing.
I just found your channel 😊 and I appreciate your info on the pantry challenge. The challenge SOUNDS good, and if it’s a necessity that’s one thing, but I’m weary of it. What if i use up a lot of my stores of food, and then a natural disaster hits, or any number of scenarios where the grocery stores get cleaned out and can’t resupply? I have a big family, 9 people, so we’d be in a lot of trouble. I’d hate to see anyone use up so much of their food and not resupplying, and then end up in a bad spot. Just something to think about. Hope you have a great day!
I totally get it! I have the same thoughts. I do have a bunch of goods put away for long term. What I’m wanting to take out of this is to get rid of the stuff that I don’t use or that my family doesn’t care for. Back in 2020 I purchased stuff that is still in the freezer or still sitting on my shelf... like evaporated milk. It’s really close to the date and so I’d like to use it up and I probably won’t be purchasing it again as I now have my freeze dryer and will be putting up freeze dried milk instead. We are a family of 3 so I can’t image the food for 9! We also have a lot of medical bills and insurance deductibles reset in January so our bills are typically higher in January and February so this helps somewhat balance out the spending.
There's something so satisfying about using up the last bit from a bunch of random containers (or watching someone else do it😉)!
Amen
