    I wonder if you could add some glass houses growing say tomatoesninto this system. So you would have somewhere with a need for heat and the co2 exhaust from the engine and somewhere for digestate to go. You could even add in a green waste composting enterprise

    My god that boys knew their stuff. Very interesting. I would love to operate this system but too expensive to set up here. It would make sense if their tractors ran off the gas too. I believe weed seeds are killed in the process too which has to be a good thing.

    Good video, AD plants are excellent for farmers but without subsidies don’t pay because of costs, wind turbines are a better option if you can get grid connection/planning as long term no costs with wind

    • @matthewlang-in3vn
      @matthewlang-in3vn 4 місяці тому +5

      Turbines are great when the wind blows, so impossible to get consistent output. With AD you have the flexibility to ramp up and down according to demand which has added value.

    • @fatbaby8193
      @fatbaby8193 4 місяці тому

      I agree but when it comes to cost at the minute in NI your costs are covered by your electricity sales but your profits are from the government subsidies so when they stop it’s not viable

    • @matthewlang-in3vn
      @matthewlang-in3vn 4 місяці тому

      Any of the AD plants we are involved in NI are all looking at the future which is biomethane. There is considerable cost in upgrading these plants to produce biomethane, so this is where a lot of these “profits” will go. Personally I would rather see investment in indigenous energy supply on the island of Ireland and keep young people like myself working in the country rather than sending more money overseas to support large coal, oil and gas companies but that’s my own opinion.

    Could they run purely using pig slurry only as the slurry type along with the silage and everything else thats added in ?

    • @matthewlang-in3vn
      @matthewlang-in3vn 4 місяці тому +1

      They could for sure, but typically with pig slurry you get a lower dry matter which means lower gas output per tonne. Also there is a higher risk with antibiotics in pig slurry. There are a lot of plans using pig slurry however!

    The only thing to like about this is income for the farmer as a form of power generation it’s crap a 500kw/625kva generator with stage 5 would be cleaner and burn less fuel than a fraction of the machinery used to feed this system

  • @nialldaly7108

    Great Video, However, I'm shocked, At 36:45, He says there is no need for extra electricty in ROI, yet this morning i heard that we do not have enough electricty to allow Data Centers to expand and Amazon and others are expanding outside of ROI because we DO NOT have enough stable electricty to allow them to expand, Plus Electricty has trippled in price singe Ukrain/Russian war. If we had enough electricty it would not have risen al all, let alone by 300%. What are the Irish Govenrment playing at. And What is Eamon Ryan doing. He has repeatedly stopped LNG from doing their thing on the Tarbert/Ballylongford landbank

    • @FARMERPHIL3690
      @FARMERPHIL3690  4 місяці тому +3

      It’s an Eamon Ryan policy to stop data centres connecting to the electric grid in favour of running on natural gas. Hence the policy is to create bio methane to feed into the gas grid instead of electricity

    The style of this Plant is quite outdated in Germany they´re been built much more simply and clean since 09/10 . The roof is also quite vulnerable to the weather, which is why modern systems have a two-layer roof that holds up a weatherproof film with air at maximum level and the gas roof can go up and down protected underneath.
    Today only large biomethane Plant`s are built and small ones only if a storage tank has to be built anyway because the farm size Plant`s that were built between 05 and 12 are no longer profitable

  • @CALOCALKY
    @CALOCALKY 4 місяці тому

    Thay are farming microbes .
    Cows live in sheds in winter microbes live in tanks in order to survive the have to be kept warm about body heat . Cows do best when feed well . Producing milk beef and slurry Microbes if fed well will produces more gass and slurry. If we are serious about off shore wind then buffet heat storage when the wind is blowing to heat the plant rather than using 1 third of there gass to heat the microbes. Have to agree slurry ad plants have the way for me and getting excess energy from wind have to be driven by the government

    The AD plants in the north were a pure cod. Produce extremely expensive electricity. That’s why they’re doing biomethane in the south and not biogas. None of those ad plants would survive without massive government subsidies. We can’t tar the roads pay hospital staff in the north but we’ve got millions spare to hand over to a few wealthy landlords. 😡

    • @patrickkelly1055
      @patrickkelly1055 4 місяці тому

      Seam to be bang on with that statement there obviously not a very efficient way of producing power if all this grant money and surely all the extra digestate from them wouldn’t be helping this whole derogation thing

    • @barrett2288
      @barrett2288 4 місяці тому

      They’re financially and environmentally unsustainable. Hence why so much of the discussion in the video is about what the government will decide to do next. It’s a sure sign that without government money these plants wouldn’t exist. And if they can’t produce power cheaper than wind, solar or gas why are they being built?

    • @matthewlang-in3vn
      @matthewlang-in3vn 4 місяці тому

      I appreciate your opinion, but the digesters that we operate and intend to build are fully sustainable environmentally and financially. Painting many canvasses with one brush isn’t wise! Yes the Northern Ireland model is well supported, but it is providing a lot of employment and revenue to rural areas and when operated correctly have a lot of environmental benefits. Our ROI model does not depend on any government subsidy, but instead is based on a cost of production price for our gas that will be sold to businesses with a large heat demand that cannot decarbonise using electricity. You are welcome to get in touch if you would like to know anything further 👍🏻

    • @barrett2288
      @barrett2288 4 місяці тому

      So there’ll be no need for government subsidy for your ROI plants?

    • @matthewlang-in3vn
      @matthewlang-in3vn 4 місяці тому

      The demand for biomethane is present currently, a government subsidy currently isn’t. If a subsidy does come in it will make biomethane more affordable and more available going forward but for now we are working with no subsidy.
