For civie use, that's probably one of the best uses for one of these, otherwise... you're just burning a hole in your pocket, but as a wrecker?... freaking brilliant. Has all the good stuff you need built in. I don't think there could be a better marriage of purposes even if someone made things for it.
Actually, that's not the first HET that i see that was turned into a wrecker. But that only prooves that the idea is simply SO good, that more than one can have it. XD
Time flies when you are watching an interesting video, I could have set through the whole installation, now my interest is peaked. Big thumbs up to the young men in the shop, there's no better learning than "HANDS ON LEARNING".
In AZ there’s a free car show every Saturday that’s been running for 30 years. Maybe eight years ago we drove into the parking lot to enjoy the show and there was a green mountain parked in the middle of the show. A HET. Crazy big in person.
I was able to come by your shop in june and your crew allowed me to take a look at this, I was so grateful, I was disappointed that I missed meeting you I hope you and your family had a good vacation your crew was awesome allowing me to walk around your facility being an Army vet seeing all the vehicles brought back a lot of memories my son enjoyed getting to look at all the vehicles in the lot and I want to thank you and your staff for the hats they gave us it was very much appreciated. I enjoy watching your videos and the banter you and your crew have is astounding.
I would move the control levers further back if the hydraulic lines would allow so that they would not sit above the wheels. If this is possible with the hydraulic hoses, purely for safety if something heavy is hanging in the salvage boom.
Worked part time for a local company that did tow truck repairs etc and the guy who owned the shop has worked for Holmes and anytime he mounted a body on a truck chassis he would cut a tapered piece of white oak that he had soaked in creosote and would put it between the frame of the truck subframe of the body he was mounting to do something similar to what JerrDan is doing
This is a really great build for one of the Oshkosh's. Was a bummer when this chapter ended. Looking forward to see the next part of the build. Stay safe and thanks for sharing.
getting a zero turn stuck is a badge of honor. at least one swim in a pond/creek is mandatory for anyone that has ever operated a zero turn. Hustler's seem drawn to mud, ponds. that is one helluva beast of a wrecker. the HET was massive before. HeavyD might wanna buy it off you Clinton 😁
check on the snapon gun if it has a filter/muffler in the handle, it restricts airflow on the way out but makes it quitter, also snapon guns love lubercation
I remember working in a shop of 24 techs when one guy took that muffler out of his gun. Next thing you know half the shop is running these loud ass impacts all day, while the other half is bitching and wearing ear muffs 😂
I hope you are putting fenders on the rear or the controls will get crunched from road salt and water and mud, hope I did not miss anything .. But I love this stuff. keep it up and, HAVE A GOOD DAY!
Another good go,reminds me of the wrecker show that’s in place out west, in the snowy mountains pulling tractor trailers out of deep canyons . He could use one of these.
🤔 Thought I recall seeing some nice welding done by your youngsters in some previous episodes.. You can see he has the ambition and confidence to take on the challenge. 👍
That's going to be one beast of a wreaker. Not just for towing big rigs but excavation equipment stuck in mud holes. And especially broken down logging equipment in hard to get at areas including logging decks. Definitely going to be a really entertaining series watching how you guys figure out what needs to be done to make it work and be safe.
This wrecker really needs Outriggers to keep it planted to the roadway. Most wreckers of this style have them as they are needed when side winching heavier loads. It also needs some very large side boxes for chains and other wrecker equipment. Looking forward to the next Video to see how the build moves forward.
If I had a vote, it would be to paint it primer gray. Wondering f you don't want mud flaps on the rear tires so you can keep mud off controls / cables for wrecker body. Might use some horizontal tool boxes to the do the trick. Very cool. Fun project. Thank You for sharing.
Congrats Clint and Guy's, on getting the big 25 ton Jerr-Dan HD-Recovery Wrecker body on the Oshkosh Het M1070. nobody got hurt.. next time getting-it mounted.
I suspected these HETs would make awesome recovery wreckers, smart move to leave the high capacity winches operational. When you get it all done and rigged, think about doing a demo on its operation. You can probably find something in the yard that Mason can get into an appropriate location for recovery!!
One of my sons worked for a millwright cranes and heavy recovery company. They had 5 ton service trucks with all the rigging etc. that would go out on every job with the rigs.
Really enjoyed seeing the other room of the shop. Would love to see a detailed shop tour. That unit is going to be really sweet. Love the way those trucks look. Would love to have one, just wish they had a few more gears to get a little faster on the highway.
Well Mr C & C I've done a bit of welding and fabricating, and once again For what it's worth? You Never cease to amaze me !! Love to see your knowledge and wisdom in action !! I'm Guessing your dad is VERY PROUD of you !! And the wife too
Whilst I think that combination of truck plus the purchased recovery equipment is likely to work really well one thing that I have noticed about similar vehicles is that there is a huge amount of ancillary equipment needed to make it a fairly complete and independent truck. - My question at this stage is where are you thinking of carrying and storing this "stuff" as there does not seem to be much in the way of locker space along the chassis rails although there is some space behind the cab but who wants to be lifting / lowering heavy chains and other equipment up and down that height distance.
If you haven't already put ATV tires on the back of your mower. It won't fix all your stuck problems but it will help a lot. It also helps with the hills and ditches.
I would have guessed at least a 50T wrecker body. At first glance looking at that big ol power unit, with all them wheels… it could handle substantially more than a 25t. But I’m only seeing what you show me. I don’t know any details. It’s gonna a BEAST anyway you look at it.
😮 Brilliant idea and probably the best use for these types of trucks, that breakdown crane certainly looks the part. Looking forward to seeing how your going to tie in the winches and the control system. 👍
The HETT is going to be a beast of a off road wrecker there won’t be a lot of places it won’t be able to go and recover stuck vehicles such as ag equipment and off road vehicles with the 25 Ton wrecker and the two 50,000lbs winches the sky is the limit with this wrecker. Would love to see it in action when completed, this was a great idea and I bet you sale more than one. Can’t wait for the rest of the series to be posted 60 minutes just flew by.
On your plazma table.. when you make the drawing, if you know exactly the dimensions of the bend point, you can program in a little "nub" if you will in the cut line to indicate exactly where the bend goes. That way there is no guessing when you go to line it up in your press brake. Line up the nubs and you are golden!!
Making for great viewing guys and sure looking for the next videos on this project wrecker. Being able to go offroad makes it really versatile bro. Safe travels. Ken
Looks good. It will probably become an off-road tow truck. If so, fenders are going to be a must to keep the controls from getting beat to death with mud and rocks. Some extra lighting and storage boxes might come in handy too.
I have to admit that riding with Hunter is much better than with Kevin, and this isn't my normal pick on Hog Head either. Sausage fingers maybe able to paint, he even alright wrench twister, but his driving is hard on the passenger side brake pedal. Don't tell me he wasn't gettin to you too, because you were giving him hard time about that is typically reserved for beginning drivers, and I never once heard except Kevin get nervous when another vehicle was coming towards them. Maybe if you gave him a couple extra firm pillows to sit on he could see what was under the bumper instead of what he's supposed to be watching ahead of him. Better yet, just mount him a seat like John Wayne had on the old GMC in Hatari, and then Hunter can drive while Kevin watches the stripe under the his feet.😅
This is going to make an awesome recovery vehicle/ truck, I have been involved in building a heavy duty recovery truck with a 50 ton 360 rotary boom on it, it was built on a Peter car, turned out awesome and really long. This one you’re building is sweet, couldn’t find a better platform to build from, looking forward to this series sir, thanks for the tag along vid.
Awesome build Clinton! 😁👍 Kinda interesting how they build the under framing with a bow to keep pressure on the bolts. That's a good idea on their part. Enjoyed the video 🔧🔩
This is going to be a good build series. Dirt Perfect is the perfect buyer for the plasma table, since he give MBTS a hard time about his torch skills.
@@johnunsicker7440 - Yes he does and it appears that most of it is excellent quality as long as Aaron is there to help (I like picking on Mike). The overhead crane is nice but, a forklift can reach in through a cab doorway in order to lift a pump or transmission out. Not easy to do in a small shop.
That’s awesome and that means I guessed correctly a few videos back when you asked what y’all should do with another HET. I had said heavy wrecker. I’d like to see a HET with an 80,000 lb 80 foot Rotator as well but I know that can get pretty expensive. I don’t recall ever seeing a HET setup as a heavy haul/lift rotator with mid and rear h-beam leveling jacks. You’d have to admit that would be cool to see!
18:05 it's all in the hammer size. Take them apart and the SnapOff will have a bigger hammer. There's prolly some parts diagram online if you don't feel like it and you can size it up based on the size of the driver. 45:43 see that shake in the handles? That's how they go bad over time. I hope they have some kind of rail to block them from road shake, if not, fab one. The gent who buys this will appreciate it.
ya need to paint the truck an awesome shiny black, then put on some red reflecting stripes down the sides, make it look less like an army truck, and trick it out will get way more selling it most tow trucks like that are waxed and shiny pride of the fleet, a couple crome boxes and strips of led lights along the bed and adjustable spotlights for working it the dark, I drove a tow truck and the more blinky and spotlights the better
I started out at age 9 learning about wreckers. For many years I did light duty towing and enjoyed tremendously, injury and age forced me out but if I had the funds today I'd love a wrecker like the one you're building here. This truck will be one special wrecker when done. Whoever buys it I hope they have a UA-cam channel to follow how it's used and where!!
I have no experience with heavy wrecker operations, but watching those guys up in Canada, one of the things I noticed most about the heavy wreckers is the amount of tackle storage they have on those truck. If you move the heavy winch controls off the platform, that could be a good place for a storage box. Not sure if there is one that would fit across from one side to the other. But would be one place. My be a good idea to hit up one of those services for some ideas to fit all the great work you are putting into this. The wrecker config for these HET's is a great idea. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing the coming episodes.
Hey Clint !!! Hope that you secured that wrecker frame well to the truck frame so that it DOESN"T end up like ""HeavyDSparks" HET video when they were pulling that mobile crane from "Salt Lake "" Flats as shown in his YT Video ,but the ""Yankum Rope held !!! Great looking job so far & waiting to see the results !!!🙃😉🤔🙄👀👀👍👍👍👍👍
