Thank you Jeff, i have never thought of using a poster before, it appears to have a waterproof surface to it , well wipeable anyway , i normally paint the outside frame work matt black , if it was you jeff would you go for something lighter, this is going to have a front framework added , i just wonder if black would dull the look down to much, i dont intend to add lights as i have an idea for the top 1/4 section, all the best Carl
@carlroberts2539 since you're not using extra lighting, I think those clouds blend in perfectly with your style of modeling and will reflect light into the scene subtly...
Carl, being at the start of my adult modelling journey I would like to assure you that these videos are very helpful. I like the way you also consider cutting costs. I have my layout running on 9mm ply running around the perimeter of my living room floor. Most of my stock I have been lucky enough to pick up second hand, but I’ve been struck by just how expensive diy materials are these days. Very Best Wishes, Nigel
Hi Nigel,I must carry on with this layout i get a bit side tracked sometimes , the Emett layout is a favourite at the moment , Im very lucky we have a great second hand market stall in town because your so right , materials are very expensive , i hope you put videos of your layout on UA-cam its alway nice to see how other folk model, all the best to you Carl
@@carlroberts2539 Thank you Carl for your reply. As of yet no modelling has taken place, I have simply been focussing on getting both my OO and OO9 track down, in order that I’ll be able to give my locos and stock a good run out. I have in mind however two viaducts in India that I would like to model. One is a very splendid multi arched affair, I think it’s on the Shimla line. To that end I’ve bought and been given various bits, partly to judge scale and also perhaps to kit bash. Right now I’m just in the preliminary phase of drawing. All the very best, Nigel
@@nigelericogden3200 Hi Nigel are you on FB if so Im Carl's Whimsical Railways, I would be really interested in seeing your India build, I very much enjoy layouts that are just a bit different , I have made so many normal stuff for folk I got a bit stale, thats where the Emett style helps me, I will goggle the Shimla line, I once built a viaduct on a curve ( for a canal ) boy that was a challenge but very rewarding , far play to you , your going about it the right way, drawings, plans , etc, I tend to jump straight in, not always with great results, stay in touch please and all the best. @@carlroberts2539 I have tended in recent years to shy away from social media in general and Facebook in particular. I try to spend as little time on screens as I can manage. Instead I read, and of late have taken up audiobooks, which have been a mini revolution in my life. I like your idea of whimsy, it puts me in mind of the childlike imagination so active in us at about the time in our lives when we first came across model railways. That is the real magic of the railways for me. Of late I have also been investigating various railway artists, and also the graphics and design (and art) that surrounds the railway. I find these avenues a great source not only of pleasure (looking at pictures as we did as children), but also of inspiration (for projects I may undertake in the future). Best Wishes, Nigel
Having the center panel of the backdrop forward a few inches is brilliant! It just really breaks up the back wall and makes the layout seem bigger. (As well as providing a spot for the track.) Why the coat of PVA after the yellow ochre is applied? Is it to seal and get a glossy surface so that the raw umber flows better?
Many thanks Ken for your comments , there very much appreciated, and your spot on regarding the PVA it makes the next coat or colour flow much better and if you get it wrong ie to much paint its easier to rescue and not have to start from the beginning again, I thought the poster sky background on this one really set the tone and made the rest easy, all the best to you Carl
The clouds fit in perfectly with the theme of your project...they have an almost ethereal look to them.

Looking great Carl, can hardly wait to see what's next. Clouds are fine in my opinion. Photo wise closeup pix should look fine
Loving it so far. Looking forward to the next installment!
