- I stumbled upon a school of shad today and managed to catch a bunch on a strike king red eye shad. There were also a few stripers hanging around that I caught too.

Yeah right near the art museum but not at that porch, the other side on the rocks. I was using a strike king red eye shad and strike king 1.5 squarebill.
You can either walk from the parking lot on the opposite side where most people usually park, approximately a 12-15 minute walk. Or you can park along the trail runs by the fish ladder by driving up a curb approximately 300 yards from the ladder and parking on a little dirt path.
for shad you should try little green curly tail jigs
Good call, I hear shad darts work well in a double-up rig. Don't have much experience fishing for shad though.
we just let the current take it and give it a pop every now and then
I just got into bass fishin an I love it
+Diego Villarreal III thats awesome bro, it's the best sport/hobby in the world!
Yeah they check decently often, I've been checked like 4 times.
Yep those are hickory shad..good cut bait for catfish
oh my gosh that looks awesome!! those shad are bigger than most of the bass i catch!! Keep up the outstanding work man!!!!
Do you ever keep any of the fish you catch or do you realease all of them
Omg mike lmao. Your hair tho! Nice video

Ah thank you for the clarification, I'm not good at identifying fish haha.
Sorry! Nice fishing!!
actually the shad you caught were gizzard shad american shad have a bass/crappie mouth.
How about those socks!?!?!
omg is he actually using a open face reel
+teckdeck175 lol :P
Nice catch and releases. Is there a fish ladder for the fish to go up river there?
Yup there is a fish ladder there, and they used to have a live feed for it too.
I caught a shad last year on a crankbait and the crankbait was bigger than the shad.
Come to Idaho man! We got good bass and trout fishing!
using a spinning reel..? what da hell?!
+Adam Buzzo haha surprising isn't it :P
shad run is in the spring not fall
how do get to that side of the dam?
What time of year is this?
What lure did you use? This is next to art messuem?
Damm id love it if there waz a spot like that a dam to fish here by were I live! Awesome fishing every cast u get one! Awesome vid bro!
WAT POUND BRAID DO U USE FOR BAIT CASTERS
+annie mitchell usually 30 lb braid
I think those are gizzards.. They break my sabiki hooks when I'm fishing for herring.
Do you get flagged for a fishing license often near the art museum?
I know this might be a dumb question but do you ever fish in Texas?
+Diego Villarreal III Not a dumb question at all! I've never been there but I'll be traveling there for the first time in february!
those are not American shad you are catching they are gizzard shad if you want American shad they have spots running along lateral line are much larger and run in the sping months
What was your first fishing reel? (Bait caster, spinning reel, or spincast) and what made you stay or keep using bait caster?
Shupei Liu first is spinning, I admired watching the pros using baitcasters so I give it a shot. I sucked bad for the first few months but once I got the hang of it liked em a lot more than spinning reels!
What kind of rod and reel is that?
tj yang team diawa sierra and g looms glx srj 6'6" medium power rod
Korkers they will save. Ur life
dang never saw shad that big dang in lake texhoma where I fish there like perch they are really good to catch striper on!! @1rod1reelfishing

Isn't it illegal to fish so close to the fish ladder?
Yes it is, I didn't learn about this until after this vid and other vids were made though.
be 40lb one day
Pennsylvania Fishing Laws & Regulations Unlawful Acts:

😶😶
You're portraying yourself breaking the law and people still watch these videos, in fact when you search for "fishing fairmount dam", this is one of the first videos. You have a large viewership and I don't think its a great idea to demonstrate fishing in this way and not have some type of disclaimer added to the videos. You fished within the ladder in multiple videos over time. The fence line there that juts out is 100 feet from the fish ladder.
Maybe just add a disclaimer to the descriptions of your videos or throw a title card in there saying "do not throw within 100 feet pursuant to regulations" or whatnot. I understand you found out after the fact, but uninformed actions are not a justification for innocence. When you purchase a fishing license you are agreeing to the regs and when you sign it you are acknowledging that you read those regs.
I understand this was many moons ago and we were younger then, but please do the responsible thing now and do your part to protect these waterways...
p.s. welcome back, and congratulations on your beautiful son.
