    As a bicycle mechanic with over 20 years of experience. One of the best thing's that you can do is spend five minutes explaining how the trim work's to a customer, regardless if it's on a new bike or a bike that you have just serviced. It saves you so much time in the long run. Just always remember cables are going to stretch and frames do flex so chain rub is inevitable at times. 👍 cool video

    I've been riding a flat bar road bike/Trek, but not with gold gears or chains. Any way I'm watching this video, very good, very rocket science to me. The bike shop said, here, go for a ride, well I had enough sense to know he's into selling bikes and not worrying about my safety, you SLICK BIKER are into keeping me from killing my self. The entire process of breaking and shifting gears are one big learning curve. The timing took a long time to adjust correctly on my FX 7.9 and I can see I'll need a large parking lot to learn or begin to learn all this. Thanks, your video is very good.

    I bought a Canyon with 105, coming from MTB with Deore SLX, didn't have a clue about the trimming. On the 1st ride, I thought that the front derailleur is completely off, I was thinking to yell at Canyon for sending me a bike without proper front adjustment. But I have noticed the pattern when changing gears, then I checked online and found out that it had a name and it was known as "trimming". :-)

    If I am understanding this, then trimming is used to stop the chain from rubbing inside the cage. Am I right?
    Also, I am thinking that keeping my cadence steady is important to maintain endurance - not just getting into the higher gears as quickly as I can, and "toughing it out" to cover more distance. This would just wear me out quicker. Am I right on this one? I was told when I bought the bike to maintain 60 rpm, maybe because of my age (75). I am trying to prepare for a TT geared to my age, which is a few months away. All comments appreciated!

    Great information but you shouldn't need to lube your cable housings is the only thing I would say. If you are thinking that's the problem, you need new ones. Adding lube to a cable is a short-term fix and will cause long-term problems.

    • @JayB-lz6yd
      @JayB-lz6yd 4 роки тому

      let's be clear. if you need to use the trim that means you are crossing the chain. so, the thing is, when you hit the derailleur cage, that means it's time to change the ring. the trim is there only to force the cross chain. which you shouldn't. small ring = top half cassette / mid ring = entire cassette minus 2 cogs on each side / big ring = bottom half of the cassette. if you use your triple like this, you'll never need the trim feature. i'm so pissed at that SickClown.

    My 105 trims perfect on the small ring but can’t ever seem to get the big ring to function properly. Big part of the problem I believe is my bike doesn’t have a barrel adjuster anywhere on the front shift cable. Making it very difficult to fine tune cable tension.

    • @johnlin5038
      @johnlin5038 4 роки тому

      The wire tension on the front derailleur cable is much higher than that of the rear derailleur, I had to put a barrel adjuster for the front derailleur cable because I have internal cabling on the carbon frame (the rear derailleur cable seems to be fine without the adjuster). Also the barrel adjuster may compensate for the cable stretching over time.

    We as consumers need more diversity.

    • @millsshumps1968

      SickBiker could if he sponsored by them.
      With regards to other Chinese Brands like produce virtually identical in quality groupset parts to the big JAP and US companies, it would be down to trial and error and taking a risk to save money on overpriced premium bike components.

      Check your cable tension. If it is wrong your trim may be eliminated.

    I have 2015 specialized Deverge,aluminum ,i maintain my bicycle very well,and seem to always have cable issues, I am always conscientious about cleaning and washing . I've tried different cables and lubes, , these internal cable routing seem to cause problem, ,,I've used expensive and cheaper cable/Housing, again with different lubes but always cimes back,
