Now that was a real Ike gauntlet run! Kudos to you for doing it like we all would.......hold it to the floor and just see how fast you can go up it! To hell with the speed limit. People go 80 up and down it all day . Last time I did it was in 1987 in a 1986 jeep wagoner with 5 people and luggage. I think we maintained about 45mph back then. Lol
I love how capable the new Ridgeline is! Hoping to trade my silverado towards one. it will tow my 2500-3500 trailer with ease.this is a great video. Thank you!
Thanks! You wont be disappointed it tows well right up to 5000lbs. See the TFL video, I let them use my Ridgeline for their IKE Test. ua-cam.com/video/ohnL47A03dA/v-deo.html also see My Down hill Video ua-cam.com/video/THV7nJXNyBs/v-deo.html
Robert Saenz sweet! thank you. I've watched the videos and it did so good! I'm excited to own one in the future! appreciate the input and response back.
We got our RTL-T AWD earlier this year and have towed our 17' Casita travel trailer on a couple of trips. It weighs about 3,200 pounds when we tow. In California where the legal towing speed limit is 55mph the Ridgeline has a tough time finding the right gear. Cruising on the flat sections and leaving the transmission in "D" the Ridgeline is doing about 1,700rpm which seems too low for the engine. When switched over to "D4" the rpms at 55mph are closer to 3,000rpm. There seems to be a sweet spot while towing between 60-65mph in "D" where the engine seems most comfortable. Look forward to towing over the Sierras in the Spring and see how the Ridgeline performs.
Hey, Robert, very good amateur video! The Ridgeline seemed like it had plenty of power, and held its gear for a long time. But towing near its max weight did not appear to be smooth. Because of the roads, you can tell you were pulling something. But overall the truck did well. Thanks again.
I drove once on a towing test and peak tourque comes at 4700 so that's the best spot for the transmission to hold instead of downshifting as that is just gonna consume a lot more fuel
this is very impressive for the ridgeline. i've run the same road with my '05 civic and, in 3rd gear, engine spinning at similar rpms, going 60mph..and i can say it is far less responsive than the ridgeline is, pulling a 4400lb trailer!
Temp guage needed. I have a 2015 Odyssey towing Apex 185bh...they do run quite hot when towing and the gauge does not move it all. It's basically a dummy guage. My van runs 170f per OBD2...I've seen 225 towing and dash gauge didn't move at all
Awesome video! Loving the new Ridgeline and if it did what I would consider pretty dang good on that run! it's a ton more capable than people give credit. super cool vid and I agree done better than tfl videos.
Great video I plan to purchase the same truck in the very near future. I will tow a similar trailer and equipment trailer with a 4000 lb Kabota. I would like to suggest if you replace the air filter with a KN high flow filter it would improve overall gas and torque and reduce Down shifting.I always replace OEM with the kn and have proven results. Again great video.thanks
Do you have the factory transmission cooler or other? Do you monitor trans fluid temps with a gauge? I installed a scan gauge in my 11 Pilot so I can read ATF temps.
Hello Mark this is the older 1801Fb and is 7.6 wide. I tow without mirrors but I have a full time wifi camera I hook via ipad to see everything behind me. The ridgeline is much wider than similar midsize truck so it hasnt been bad. Should be alot easier towing with the newer winnies that are 7" wide. I would be happy to send you the parts list to make your own full time rear view camera that you can use your Phone, ipad or other tablet as a monitor. What winnie are you looking at ? I am thinking of trading in the 1801fb for the new 1808fbs.
I'm looking at the 2106DS (Murphy bed) or the 2106 FBS (same floor plan, non-Murphy queen bed). Has one slide out for the sofa. Yes, I'd be very grateful for the parts list. I use both IPhone and iPad. Thanks Robert.

Why didn't you weigh the whole rig, steer, drive, and trailer axles? Your trailer weighed more than 4440 since you did not account for tongue weight just weighing the trailer axle. Figuring about 15% tongue weight for a smooth tow without sway, then your gross trailer weight was about 5100 lbs. That would put you gross combined vehicle weight at about 10,000 lbs., pretty much what Honda specs GCVW at.
Did you install a brake controller? If you're going up and down 70 with any regularity I'm curious if you felt that utilizing the brakes on the trailer was needed or if the Ridgeline was sufficient on its own.
Yes I have a brake controller. The Ridgeline is pre-wired for brake controller. Colorado law requires any trailer over 3000lb to have a brake controller.
Vehicle was purchased in July. We went camping 6 Times In the Colorado Mountains and 1 time in NM. It pulled close to that weight every time with no issues.
Robert Saenz Thank you for the info. I will have to make up my mind to go with the new Ridgeline or Tundra. I did find out that this new Ridgeline has a little more horsepower and torque. When i was going to West Virginia to a ghost hunt my rpm's going up the steep hills would hit at about 5000 rpm's. this looks like you're at about 4500 rpm's i guess this doesn't harm the engine?
If you are towing over 5000lb the ridgeline probably wont work for you. But I can tell un-like most manufactures Honda's tow rating runs very True. To me this means You Can tow it's max towing capacity safely at the posted speed limit in any condition. ie going over Ike Gauntlet. Most vehicles cannot tow their max capacity at the posted speed limit going over mild grades let alone the Ike Gauntlet. The Tundra was my second choice. Test drive both and pick what is best for your lifestyle. I dont regret my decision at all !
There is something rattling all the time when going on rough patches of road - examples: 5:466:10 etc. - what is causing that? Is the Ridgeline rattling like that or is it some lose equipment - such as an iPhone placed on the box between the seats?
I think it was the iphone cable rattling on something. I can tell you the new Ridgeline is the quietest vehicle I have ever owned. Its so quite we not longer take my wifes slightly older acura on trips. There is absolutely no rattles on the new ridgeline.
I did loan my truck to TFL so they could review. They will be getting one from Honda this week to film a midsize truck shoot out. Should be interesting.
I knew what the ridgeline could do , so I had alot of faith that the ridgeline would impress. Letting them drive it at capacity didnt bother me because I drive it alot harder than anyone else ever could.

Thanks Steve, very interesting and informative post.

Honest facts. That's nice to see. Most wouldn't lend that information thinking it would make the truck look bad

truck revs pretty high decent review in comparison to to tfl truck u earned sub good luck

Honda should offer a manual trans like they do in the accord.

thanks for posting the video. The new ridgeline seems like true to tow! Were you using 2 gopro cameras?

The only thing that would make this better is the new 10 speed
Dillon Yanick I don’t know how well that transmission handles weight. Would help it stay in VTEC though.
I'm looking at a similar Winnie. 7' wide. Are you able to tow your rig without towing mirrors with the Ridgeline?

Awesome
Thanks for the video. How much did the rear sag on the truck when hooked up to the trailer? I'm thinking about getting one.

please state how much throttle you are applying at times
How many times have you pulled this much weight with this truck?

motor is not meant to be pushed like that at all. The combustion chamber Temps were probably so high
What makes you say that? I thought honda vtec engines liked to rev high?
Temps were fine. You could see the gauges. As long as you're not running in the red zone for RPM the engine should be fine.
did you loan yours to TFL?
I did loan my truck to TFL so they could review. They will be getting one from Honda this week to film a midsize truck shoot out. Should be interesting.
Well that was generous of you. Impressive towing with your video and theirs!

Revving the piss outta that little engine, jeez. Great vid.
Herr Poopschitz same engine size in a f150
Herr Poopschitz what little engine?!!!Honda V-tech always Rev high and still reliability is good!!!
That's how naturally aspirated engines make power - through RPM.
nice but need to upgrade your camera to 4k in order to compet with TFL.
