I did this back in 2014. I had 2 trucks n 1 owner opp. Then the trucks started needing too much repairs and also my drivers couldn’t run as much as I wanted them to. Then DOT came and gave me a big fine for log book violation. In 2017 I sold my old truck due to CARB. Then the owner opp left and my other truck got in a big accident. You can start up a business on your own but you need good people to grow your business. Something I didn’t have at the time. I’m planning to get my authority reinstated and do it all over again. This time with better trucks and drivers.
AHHH the details , the details , the devil's in the details !
How much were you averaging net profits? Freight or cars?
Better trucks are the easy part ...
Good Drivers ... now THAT'S another
story!!!! ( sounds like You had a first
hand encounter with Murphy's law
for a while there )
You measure a man but how he gets back up. Every single man falls
@@seds94 I’m still at it. Bought a 2018 last year but still can’t get insurance for some reason. I live in California Si the AB5 law forced owner opps to file for their own entity. I did just that. I got a new company but now I can’t find find insurance because the insurers know that I had a different company in the pass. Pretty dumb though. Old company wasn’t making profit so I shut it down it has nothing to do with my new company. I’m not giving up still here still trying.
Bro !! You a real one.....knowing most out here will not support nor give advice. Others are in a competition with others and that is, a lot of money out here for everyone ! It's either you want it or you don't. Respect it 100 and keep up the good work
Exactly! I’ve always thought that if you need to protect every thing about your business model, it’s probably not that strong. As you mentioned, there’s money for everyone so let’s all help each other succeed.
Thanks for the content. I'm currently helping my dad set up his trucking business. He's got almost two decades of experience. I'm also getting a certificate in freight brokerage. I'll mostly start dispatching for experience, then attempt opening up my own brokerage.
That's incredible! I had a very similar path to the one you're on right now. Just try not to stress yourself out too much in the beginning. Learn and apply everything... see what works, discard what doesn't. Soon you will find success and help your dad out TREMENDOUSLY!
I will also be posting a lot of videos on dispatching/brokerage and providing tips on this channel.
@@Gill22 I'll keep an eye out on that! 🙏🏻
@@Normal_Garage Hello,can I work as a dispatcher beeing not in Us?Thank you.
Great job! I’m a dispatcher let’s connect
Tnx for making me a future milionare 😎
Don’t forget about us when you blow up! 😅👌🏽
I'm thinking about getting into trucking and this man is really a blessing with information. God bless him
Glad you like it man!
My advice, if you find a good driver , don’t be cheap and hold on him he will push your business forward
If you pay less you will find less experienced driver that’s risky
Enjoy you videos. Thank you. Retiring in 8 months and finding these useful. Have to start with CDL school and gain some experience on the road first with a company but love watching your vids for goals down the road.
You got this brother!
I really enjoyed this video! Can’t wait to see part 2!!
Great content
How does this video not have at least 100k views
Thank you Manrup! Hopefully one day I’ll be able to hit those numbers 😅
This was really helpful man. Never considered dispatching. Cheers.
Glad you liked it! Dispatching is a great way to make some extra cash IF you're a detail oriented person with good negotiation skills. Definitely recommend trying it out!
Very good piece I learned a lot from it. Thanks for sharing… Knowledge is 💪🏾
Part 2 coming soon? I hope. Well done! learned a lot here!
Haha it’s taking some time to make but i’ll put it out eventually!
@@Gill22 is part 2 ever coming out?? Thank you so much for part 1 bro you don’t even know how much it helped!
Info WELL DONE ! Great step by step ! If done Your way the there shouldn't be
fails in this model . ( but ,
there are lots of failures ) !
I think it's because it's EASIER to fail than to be
SUCCESSFUL ( pick a venture , it's all the same ) !!!!
Main thing right now in February 2022 is being able to find a truck for decent price. 50k truck is going for 80k to 90k.
Very true but remember, at the end of the day, the return you make by investing your money in that equipment is still worth it.
God bless you... Pls, keep doing this. You inspire me a lot.
Hey Gill requesting a video on running a Dispatching service and setting up with Factoring companies also how would we set up in getting paid same day
Will make that video soon! Just working on a few other video concepts right now 👌🏽
I really enjoyed it very informative!
you are a legend!
I'm a software engineer and I branched out into haulage transport. I have two brand new trucks and one secondhand freightliner. Each truck brings a net revenue of $2500 per load after all costs. and I aim for four loads a month. The only employees I have are truck drivers. I'm trying to get asset finance for fifty extra trucks and trailers, hire a dispatcher, an operations manager and accountant. It's better to own your own trucks. My annual net income is $90,000 after all costs I need more money.
dope video, great content
1 truck that you own and hire a driver will make you far more than hiring owner ops. 1 truck should make you about 80-140k a year depending on variables
True but revenue is not the only thing you should consider. With an owner operator there is very little risk and very little cost to get started. With a company driver there's a moderate amount of risk and a higher barrier to entry.
I believe those that are new to the industry should start with owner operators and eventually include company drivers into the mix.
I’m an independent op I see very much helpful video when I bought my 2018 truck i apply with my company name credit and they aprobé $80, k with 15% down , I hired a broker he’s working with me with all loads iget pay every week not every month I don’t have to deal with anything except to get loads done with care , thanks brother
Where you look or find brokers to work with under this condition?

What you did to build your business credit
@@terrymitchell4579 as soon you apply for fuel card credit your company will get credit records, I’m an independent op and my company only got two years, you should start apply for small business credit card, good luck my friend and keep working happy
@@geoestrada5001 okay I apreciate...I just got started in the trucking business(box truck 26ft) however I've been in the logistics , supply chains, LTL/3PL world over 10 years at UPS
Hey guys quick question. I’m not much passionate about truck driving. I don’t have my CDL or plan on driving trucks or making a career out of it. But I am a entrepreneur. My passion is real estate. But on my quest to wealth I want to build different businesses and streams of income and have been looking into the commercial truck business. What would your guys tske be on starting this business not as a driver but just to build up?
It’s definitely hard to build up as just an investor. I’m also doing real estate on the side but this is my main bread and butter.
A lot of us are entrepreneurs and looking into real estate. My personal advice , I’m no one special, is to get into trucking before real estate. It’s a mobile home that makes you more net revenue than any rental or flip would make you. Much faster capital accumulation and still able to liquidate or scale the business. A few people I know make $8,000-$15,000 net every month on their own single truck. Now multiply that for every truck you own.
@@madperson713 yep that’s what I’m planning on doing. Ima get my CDL later this year. My plan is to have 50k liquid cash and 30-50k I’m available credit before I drive in 🤞🏽 hopefully it works out
There's one more dirty little secret
You forgot to mention when it comes
to hireing more Drivers , ...
You have to find good driver's without points against Their license !
They must have enough experience !
Keep in mind . . One wreck could
Ruin You & bankrupt Your business !!!!
Thanks for the useful content!
hi great video. please we are still waiting for more videos. Thank you for the clarification
Getting a 2nd truck is easy with a reliable truck. If you don't it's hell and high water. Getting a 3rd truck is easy with 2 reliable trucks. Get my drift??
Yes sir you’re exactly right!
Can you do a video like this for sprinter vans?
Do you have have any videos that go over how hire someone else to drive your truck and the cost associated with it?
If we had 50,000 in cash and 720 score we wouldn’t be looking to drive a truck 😂
And you need to know the industry. All new trucking companies go out of business within the first six months. Another 1% by the end of that year. It’s not an easy business and it only works if you are the driver.
100% agreed! So many people come in with no plan and no fundamental understanding of logistics and supply chain. You need to know A LOT to be successful in any business but it’s especially true in the trucking industry. I’m hoping I can help some of them through these videos.
Bro...your thumbnails are dope. I like it.
Thank you Bavi! They take a longggg time to make 😅
@@Gill22 i totally understand i am photographer my self.
Can you do one for box trucks
You didn’t factor in insurance driver’s pay nor fuel. There is no way you can run a truck in $10k. Fuel is that alone. A new authority will cost another $2500-$4500 for insurance. You haven’t factored in maintenance one tore is $500-$900, oil change is $500, driver pay is .60-.85 per mile.
I haven’t watched the video back yet but the $10K amount i’m referring to is net not gross. It takes into account all “COGS” related costs as well as ESGA costs. It just a rough estimate given to help aspiring owner ops/carrier understand the concept of scale and how to approach expansion in the trucking industry.
You can start in a lower online position first. Truck Dispatcher.
I am trying to start a business however I am not a driver. But I do have a truck and am in the works of getting it insured and have been looking into turning it into an LLC after hiring a driver. Do you think I can still follow this model and assume the position of dispatcher/owner and just hire drivers and I buy more trucks? Do you have another video that may apply more directly to my situation 😅
These numbers are way low
I wanted to be conservative with my projections. Which numbers did you think were too low?
@@Gill22 monthly gross. Also is this for a solo driver and van? Because I run refer out of California and it's like $4-5 a mile. Solo. Then a team run is like 13k from yuma az to Georgia
I love this guy
haha thank you
with that first truck that 70k am i driving that truck?. i want to have a fleet and not drive any trucks
Question: would you recommend hiring drivers at the start instead of owner operators?
I also would rather put the money into the truck, I'd like to open up something with my uncle whose head over 10 years of experience if I remember right for the same company almost. My aunt's been within the entire time and I'd like to include them both in on it he can help me truck she can dispatch.. the prophets will go back into the business, but they love to spend money even when they were broke. So I would honestly try to channel the urge to ball lol into the business as nicer trucks or getting the truck to look nice it shows and win awards and s*** in downtime.
OK it's 2023 October 3rd
How are yall doing???
I'm still company driver and 13 years until mortgage is paid completely and all my vehicles are paid off completely my wife isn't employed and basically I'm doing the same today as the day this video was made, and 2 years prior to it's creation date
Run 5 OO under your authority and they get big or not big violations your rates will go down with your income
Great video, just curious though. Why wouldn’t you just buy more trucks and hire drivers. Along with more dispatchers for your own company. Instead of hiring other owner operators. Thanks!
Thankyou.
Great Content
Excellent video! Where’s part 2?
I’m working on it but it’s taking a LONG time to make. It’s going to be a COMPLETE breakdown on how to actually start (all the licenses, business structure, creating a plan, buying equipment, etc) and how much it will cost.
I’ll probably have it done after my next video!
Good stuff!!
Get that credit score and data points right and you'll be able to have that 50k and more in business funding immediately
You should check out HYLN trucks and make a video about them
If have the funds and I don’t want to drive can I hire the drivers,do the dispatch and be a freight broker at the same time
you think the tesla trucks will make it easier? Was thinking finding contracts and financing one. On paper it seems too good to be true
I wouldn’t bother in Australia we have a driver shortage
I want to buy 2 trucks for passive income who do i lease them to ? How do i go about it ? What do you advise please ?
Quite informative. I'm thinking of leasing trucks and employing drivers. Will the strategy you have outlined still working for me?
Yes! The more I’ve learned about the business, the more it makes sense to lease rather that rent or buy trucks/trailers. The same strategy still applies.
Thanks❤
Thank you

What kind of job will help us save 50,000 in the bank...that's a salary for people.
I’m not saying do it in one year. Savings build over time. I was able to do it by the time I turned 21 but I understand not everyone is in the same situation. Start now, start small, and keep building. Every business needs capital to begin otherwise this would just be a get rich quick scheme.
Telling people to go into debt to start a business is the exact reason why 95% of businesses fail. 3 minutes into the video is all I needed to see.
You don’t need a 720 .. not even close !
Sorry but if you’re only grossing 250k a year with one truck, you clearly don’t know what you’re doing, That’s only 4900 a week, when one load can pay that much 😳
Please see the pinned comment
U don’t need personal credit to get money guys just get a aged corp and start from there
Your credit will be run even for business loans. it might not be the primary reason you get rejected, obviously your cash flow and projections matter a lot more. But your credit will get run and it will matter.

Any part 2 or 3???
what in case of only owner(hired driver and dispatcher) only owner??? .....
Hey would it be possible that you could also make a successful trucking business but through hotshot?
I don’t know if i’m the right person to ask about hotshot. i’ll have to do my research on that industry to give you any specific advice
I would like to start a truck dispatching business and someone recommended you. Please can you help and mentor me on it?
are you still doing dispatching? if you are what is your contact info to get your services?
not accurate info and i have 25 trucks now
Anyone have a quality business plan I can get?
aquino terrado choco
Question ? Do you get much sleep ?
I started with less than 5k
I don’t possibly know how but ay more power to you!
They had insurance....rental hook up through them... then I went through opportunity fund to get my loan for the truck
@@Gill22 I did every type of furniture delivery then went on to freight... and now I do otr... mixed with local deliveries
PS you won’t find “good drivers” Experienced drivers with good records go to companies that have insurance, stock options, matched retirement. Small companies will get rejects, crackheads with poor driving records.
Not true. While good drivers will tend to go to companies with better pay and benefits, as a small company you’ll have to heavily utilize owner ops OR you pay higher per-mile pay ($0.67-$0.70/mile) and build systems to increase fuel efficiency, safe driving, and less turnover leading to more lifetime profit from drivers in comparison to the larger companies. Also, by paying “more”, you can grow from 1 to 15-20 trucks pretty quickly and then you can contract loads with shippers and start easing off the higher salary you’re paying in return for more benefits. We’ve been able to find great drivers following this method and have only ever had to fire 3 drivers over the last decade.
Do you know any one that dispatch
There are a lot of great dispatchers out there! I think we do a great job as well but I might be a little biased 😅
@@Gill22 how much do you charge for dispatching service?
@@beautyellacarolmkuma5533 It depends on equipment type, what type of services you're looking for, etc. Feel free to send me an email and we can discuss it further!
I want to buy a really expensive piece of art, hold it in a vault that millionaires hold theirs in, and sell it for profit and pay no taxes after donating those profits collecting the tax return at the end of the year. . . That's more of rush and I can buy two fancy cars... I won't I think I promise...
Or make a NFT and just sell it for $50 million. Both are pretty easy to do. Lmaooo
Hey man I've got a link and it's a masterpiece
If you don't want the hassle of owning a piece of art, it's still possible to invest in artwork without taking possession of the physical asset.
Art funds, which are structured much like other investment funds, allow investors to partially own pieces of art. MasterWorks, for example, is a fund manager that acquires blue chip art at auctions on behalf of its investors. It creates a holding company for each piece of art, to acquire the art, store it, promote it, and resell it for profit. It registers that company with the SEC and issues shares to those who want to invest in that specific piece of art. Securitizing artwork in this way makes investing in art more affordable and the market for the artworks' shares more liquid. Investors can buy and sell shares much more easily than buying and selling the pieces of artwork themselves.
@@Gill22 don't I invest in the nft and benefit from buying into it over making something to sell?
@@davidslim8718 I've seen this before or heard of it. I'm quite interested, though no funds lately, currently replanning. I went from getting my CDL and an LLC, back to getting into Carpentery and just starting a business there. I'm only 20 but I can't be on the roads that long although young my bodies pretty jacked up.
The trucker owner operator will be an extinct form of employment with the new Tesla truck just like the welding robot did to welders
Who in the world who knows dispatching will work for 35k? 🤦♂️
Not true.
My dispatcher charges 25% is that too much?
Depends on what they’re offering. We definitely don’t charge anywhere near that and we provide end to end support so I can’t imagine what added benefit you’re getting from them 😬
How many trucks you got?
If you have never made a million dollars in Trucking than you can't teach someone else how to make make it trucking and you ain't NEVER MADE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS!! YOUR BLUEPRINT IS ALL CAPS BRO STOP WITH THE CRAZINESS!!
Is that you driving the truck or hiring someone else to drive your truck?
Hiring someone else
Well this aged like milk 🥛
What do you mean?
what type, of course, are you looking for?
Good luck trying to find a good dispatcher for $35,000 per year. Completely unrealistic. you might find a 22 year old gum chewing female clerk gen z air head, but not a hard nosed experienced dispatcher with Attila the Hun negotiating abilities to deal with the broker scum all day and drivers issues whom you can never make happy no matter what you do. This is a tough business with high risk and low return on investment. Argue with me ... I dare you!
These are slavery numbers. A semi truck with the right dispatcher should be grossing closer to $500k per year not $250k per year. Only local drivers are taking home $5k gross per week. That’s nothing. Not a well researched video at all.
Could you break down the math for an owner operator making $500k per year top line revenue for me?
im majoring in business and I want to run my dads trucking business which he's going to start next year what business degree should i do
Definitely go for your MBA - Finance. Most programs go through an extensive curriculum where you build a full business plan from start to finish. Mission, vision, core values, P&L statement, income statement, projections, differentiation etc.
@@akenpierre3145 is a business management degree good too or is a finance degree the best?
@@KaranSingh-ys2rw I have an MBA but I believe it was unnecessary if you have a bachelors in business. The reason I got an mba was because I have a bs in biological science. I would recommend you getting a bs in business with a focus in 1) accounting or finance 2) marketing 3) organizational leadership 4)entrepreneurship
I would major in one of the above areas. I recommend accounting first if you like math and number but you would get a little bit of everything in the other majors. Depends on your interest
none, wont help you run a business
