In the 90s, it was impossible to get the blues in Russia in the provinces. But an amazing story happened. In a shop, vinyl discs cost about 3,000 roubles. But there was a stack of Nathan Zajdeko records on one side and Buzu Chevis on the other. And it cost 17 roubles! I asked the salesman - was the price correct, or were there two zeros missing? I needed to get on the train from school. I was hungry. The pie at the train station cost 600 roubles. And I only had 100 rubles. The shop assistant checked and said the price was right. I only had enough for a record. I bought it and that's where my love of the blues began. I think it was a signal from above, even though I am an atheist.

In 1999 we came to N'awlins for 10 days. We were from Vienna and met our friends from Berkeley there. On Thursday evening we went to the Rock'n'Bowl for a CD release party by Boozoo Chavis and his incredible band. After the first 10 seconds we were already unstoppable. Boozoo had enchanted us. We danced the whole night. I fell in love with Zydeco, Cajun food and the great and most hospitable people of Louisiana, who defy all disasters and live life to the fullest. Now I live in Hong Kong. Whenever I feel homesick, I play Zydeco and my soul laughs and I look forward to coming to N'awlins, my true home. Thank you very much Boozoo.
