  • Decided to film a tour of the old school building before it was all knocked down. Hope this brings back many memories for anyone that attended or worked in the school.

I have been able to rewalk the paths of my childhood and school years thanks to this. I was 2 years old when we moved into St Wilfrid's when my father Michael O'Reilly was appointed the first Head and lived in the flat at the very top of the old house. T
he grounds were our playground, the daffodils filled a bank every spring where cars were parked, the wonderful trees have stayed in my mind. I was a pupil until I sat my O levels and have seen the stairs I walked up, the classrooms where I was taught and, so poignantly, the door to the office of the Headmaster, my Dad who died aged 52 in 1963 when I was 12. Memories never die. Thank you so much.

Was at St Wilfs from sep 1971 til 74 and part time in the sixth form ( I was working on a farm) . Compared to other schools in crawley it was fairly free thinking. Remember Mr Ward the Drama teacher and Tony weaver. and Allison our economics teacher( Cant remember many others) Used to park my old land Rover by the Youth wing. Wasnt trusted to put it in the staff car park. Mr Blake who I thought was a good bloke always very helpful, sadly taken away. Long gone local building firm of Longleys built and extended the original school and most of Crawley. They did a good apprentership scheme and many lads joined it.
Never went back to visit, no point school just a small part of life but Rob Smith and the Cure did put it on the map!

I was very moved by this video. My father was the first headmaster of St Wilfreds - Mr O'Reilly. We lived in the main house on the top floor in a flat. I was a tiny child but later went to the school. many many thanks.

Wow, thank you so much for filming this. Brings back a lot of memories. The old building with the chapel was beautiful, it is a shame they knocked that down. (Class of 1992-1997).

I remember this, I have never sen the new buildings from the inside,
I noticed that it even has it's own road now at the entrance where the youth wing used to be.
Apparently Mr. Crocker has since retired and got married.
Everyone remembers him! "I'll hit the roof!"
