@rain_uc A video if made like the artist intended can bring so much more feeling. Seldom seen, because if you are ruled by the record company they ofcourse call the shots. But their video to this song feels legit.
"Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye featuring Kimbra has sold more than 13 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling digital singles ever: 14-times platinum in the US, 11-times platinum in Australia Number one on the Hot 100, and in more than 23 countries Peace out.
One of the biggest hits around the world in the 2010s, has had over 2 billion views on Utube , it won a grammy and went 14 times platinum just in the US alone so maybe you did hear it somewhere.
"Wally" de Backer (Gotye, a Belgian born Aussie) & Kimbra (a Kiwi songbird). An addictive tune that owes a fair bit to Peter Grabriel, 30 years his senior; Solsbury Hill, Sledgehammer, In Your Eyes
I think the reason you might recognize the hook is that it's more intense, so if you heard it in the supermarket, the verses would be quiet and the hook would just cut through.
It's the nursery rhythm "Baa baa black sheep" notes at the beginning and throughout the track that gets me 😊. Lovve this song and this live version doesn't disappoint at all ❤
The original video (this isn't it) was released in 2011 and has had billions of views on UA-cam. I don't know when the version Krizz played was made. What's really cool is in 2017 they made a video that pretended to be created in 1988. They were playing on the idea that viewers seeing it would "remember" the song from years before. It worked with many viewers falsely remembering things like how it had been their favourite song in the late 1980s, or how they played it at the 1992 wedding. Krizz, as a music producer you would likely enjoy watching how in 2017 they so successfully carried off a "1988" look & sound. ua-cam.com/video/CgvwIQfNCPo/v-deo.htmlsi=-R0yQsi2O2hVVxs2
This was released on the 5th July 2011 in Australia and New Zealand. Gotye is the guy, Kimbra the female. It was released in American in 2012. Gotye was born in Belgium and immigrated to Victoria, Australia from the age of 2. Kimbra is from New Zealand. This song went 14 times Platinum, selling the same amount in America alone. I think they did quite well with this one. The official video is interesting too. The song portrays both sides of a relationship breakdown. It is a brilliant concept. You feel for the guy, and then you hear the other perspective, and then you feel for them both. In the film clip, Kimbra almost disappears into the artwork….
This song/dude is the walking embodiment of “I came, I (sang) I conquered, then I sat down and let them ask for more.” He likely won’t make more music, and hasn’t really messed with chasing singles since this song.
Not sure what they did with his voice at the beginning in this mix…. As a music producer, I reckon you should chase up Russell Morris doing The Real Thing. No autotune, no ProTools, 4 tracks, the year was 1967. Molly Meldrum was the producer… he should have got a Grammy for it. Absolutely epic!
I think I prefer the full production video version of this, feel the emotion more. The girl is Kimbra. This song is basically the basis of a meme at this point. Had this huge hit and dropped out of sight. Now he’s just somebody that we used to know.
Real music from real musicians. You could put all the hip-hop artists together, and you wouldn't even have the same level of talent that just one of these people have in their little finger.
Walk Off The Earth, a Canadian band, did a cover of this called 5 people 1 guitar and it's literally the 5 of them playing a giant guitar and singing this. Please check them out
The first version of this that I first heard was the viral Walk Off the Earth cover, which became popular on UA-cam both for its sound (I’m honestly not sure which version I like best) and for the clever way they play the guitar in the video. Worth looking up. Found the link: ua-cam.com/video/P9mybTArlsk/v-deo.html I just rewatched it and the most hilarious comment is, “We paid for the whole guitar, we’re going to use the whole guitar.”
the first part of the song sounds to me like a song sung by Diana Ankudinova (if that is how you spell her name) and i think its a song called "Danse" (french). Actually its here, they are not the same song but there is something in there with the rhythm or something: ua-cam.com/video/1gZr27pqfQ0/v-deo.html
When I first heard the song on the radio, I swore it was Sting singing. Only after I did some research did I realize it was somebody that I never heard of before, Gotye.
I don't understand why anyone would want you to react to the live version before doing the studio version. As an artist wouldn't you rather have your song listen to first from the studio version so someone could fully appreciate it and then get the live version if they enjoy it.
Though I appreciate thier live performances of this fantastic song, it's really the video version that makes one love them.
Its interesting - for me I'm the opposite. I will usually skip the official release but love the live versions.
@rain_uc I just watched the live performance again, and yeah it does have an intensity. Nice

breakups are tough.. each one's perception of what happened is what I love about this song

Kimbra is an amazing artist
Need more upvotes she really is
Because you asked, not because I want to correct- it is go TEE ay
You couldn’t go to the mall in 13’ without hearing this. His album before this was an electro synthe grove
NEVER SAW THIS LIVE VERSION

Check out Gotyes Hearts a Mess. Another great song.
Gotye, Belgian born Australian singer songwriter, Kimbra is from New Zealand.
More cowbell !!!
Gotye (Go-tea-ay) This is from the 2010s not sure what year. Didnt look it up. Millions or billions of views on Spotify. Studio version is pure art.
This song is in public domain and would not have been restricted in any format.

Oh, and a cool 2.3 billion views on the original official clip, with other versions on more than 90 million views…..Not bard, hey?
Should have done the official video. It just hits harder than any of the weird live performances...
If you can’t do it live then don’t do it.
@@lukebjorge1085 The video is a piece of art.... there's more to the video than the song..
SMH.. FFS...

He's formed a new band and is still writing and performing, from what I heard reported.
Go-tea-yay

This song was also done in the studio with one acoustic guitar and about six people playing it simultaneously.
It's actually all samples plus their vocals. Check out BAAUER's breakdown of the samples used.
Adam Levine and Christina Grimmie sang it on the Voice … Christina was shot Jun 10, 2016 in Orlando
I remember, forgive did she pass away from that attack? Also, why..what was supposedly the reason someone attacked that poor girl? WTH did she do?
Man i miss her! Her life was cut way too short by that @sshole.
Christina died she was at a club and a “ fan” if he couldn’t have her no one would !
Aw shit! Kaliko on the reactions. I’m so in for this.
Real music from real musicians. You could put all the hip-hop artists together, and you wouldn't even have the same level of talent that just one of these people have in their little finger.
Needs studio version with the video
Love your reactions 😊
The only way you didn't hear this song is if you were deaf and living on Mars😂😂😂😂😂
Think Kanye, but rather than Kan...Goat... you pretty much had it
2 Billion views of a big song.
I was watching your System of a Down reaction. Now, they're not from New Zealand, but Kimbra is...
You should have done the official video clip
Walk Off The Earth, a Canadian band, did a cover of this called 5 people 1 guitar and it's literally the 5 of them playing a giant guitar and singing this. Please check them out
You must see the arty video of it !
Make sure you see Pentatonix cover of this song.
You should also see Walk Off the Earth's version too👍.
Minimalist music is very cool and raw. You need some SeaSick Steve in your life.

show of hands is he ready for the oingo boingo rabbit hole yet🤔
🔥🔥

☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥😎😍
A beautiful duet, right?
Remind me some Police songs
When I first heard the song on the radio, I swore it was Sting singing. Only after I did some research did I realize it was somebody that I never heard of before, Gotye.
Do you know the one by Vivian green emotional rollercoaster?
I can't say it either 😂
Where have you been? I guess it also means you didn't watch Prince present the Grammy to Gotye, saying how much he loved "this song".
Try it with Pentatonix
You're watching the wrong version of the song
you should have watched the official video the sound quality was far better and easier to hear what they were singing.
Glee's version
ua-cam.com/video/vimjvZ3d3Os/v-deo.htmlsi=wzR29Gj2pzWDvIiX
it's a reaction to unknown names and who's who...
Gotye is pronounced Go-tea-yay.
Bruno Mars maybe ?
The video version is visually better to watch.
Cradle of Filth.... Beneath the Howling Stars
The 60's? Are you serious?
It's not that old. I liked the video better than the live version.
Google says it's Pronounced "Gow - Tee - Ay".
You haven't been introduced to Australian music then
It's not from the 60s. I think it's 2000s, or 2010s...
I don't understand why anyone would want you to react to the live version before doing the studio version. As an artist wouldn't you rather have your song listen to first from the studio version so someone could fully appreciate it and then get the live version if they enjoy it.
This is a better video. ua-cam.com/video/8UVNT4wvIGY/v-deo.htmlsi=83xkgDcYEIlNz_kD
your pronounciation is the right one
Weirdly I don't like this live, the original video is better and was HUGE, you couldn't avoid the song it was played everywhere
Not even his best song
