    The "j" in Jormungandr is pronounced as a "y", so it is pronounced "YOUR-mun-gand-ur". This is a reference to the Midgaard Serpent coiled around the roots of Yggdrasil, the World Tree, in the Norse Poetic Edda.

    • @reginlief1
      @reginlief1 2 роки тому +1

      I think you’re getting a little confused with Nidhoggr. Jormungandr, as far as I know, just loops around Midgard like an ouroboros, biting it’s own tail.
      NIDHOGGR, however, is the drake that gnaws at the branches of the world tree.
      (I don’t care that this comment is four years old, if I can inform others who might see it).

    I see no conflict or need for clarification on the tactics.
    Jormungandr allways is in cover and imperial fists simply don't give a sh!t about it. Sounds simple enough to me.

    I've stuck with Nids since Nids were ... well Nids. We were the top tier army, we were feared. Then as the editions evolved the Nids became weaker and weaker until it got to the point I could barely hold my own against a middle tier army, not to mention how quickly a Tau army would decimate us ... dead by turn 2, yeah no thanks. Hopefully this is the return of the Tyranid Hive in all it's glory - my 25,000 points of PAINTED Nids will devour all!

    Imperial Fists and Iron Warriors tactics ignore cover. They ignore any benefit gained for being in cover. Jormungandr gain the benefit of cover regardless where they are (imagine the entire brood of termagants carrying trees with them). They gain cover, which is then ignored by Imperial Fists and Iron Warriors.
    The benefit is from their tunnel networks. Tunnelling is a very common siege/counter siege tactic. One both the Imperial Fists and Iron Warriors will be well versed in using and countering. It makes perfect sense.

    • @argentumvulpus6060
      @argentumvulpus6060 7 років тому +3

      Brian Cripps exactly this! Cover gives you a +1 save that's all, if they had said gains +1 to armour, tough luck imperial fists, but this would use the specific cover rules which certain armies and units can ignore... but nobody plays iron warriors or imperial fists anymore right?

    • @Kirioth

      Its ignore cover bonus of +1 isn't it? some units like Ratlings get +2 save for cover, the equivalent of camo cloak in previous editions.

    I'm a tyranid player and have never really had an amazingly powerful army, focusing on a thematic swarm of critters and I really like the look of these new rules. I have always have had issues with my m8s necron wraiths and the cannon which ignores invulnerable saves has me very excited. Am a bit disappointed that my gaunts won't start eating each other if left alone but on the whole the new stuff looks great. The hive mind hungers

    As a tyranid player since 5e I can state this, Carnifexes are no longer engines of pure, unending destruction. They are actually balanced now.
    Instead raveners seem to be their new OP unit given the boons they can get with the Red Terror. Also it's nice to see Tyrannofexes become usable with all load outs. It used to be spine banks or nothing but now weapons like the rupture cannon can be fielded successfully.

    How to say Jormungandr...Well this is UA-cam, just look for Sabaton- Twilight of the Thundergods, they sing how its correctly pronounced, and the band is Swedish so i guess they know how you say ancient Viking stuff.

    think the feel no pain within 6" is a bit too low, there is a limit to how many hormagaunts you can fit in there, kind of weak
    would be cool if it was 12" but i guess since templates are no longer a thing clumping up isnt as big an issue as it once was
    about kronos, think biovores, launching swarms of spore mines
    not sure how artillery works now, but many editions ago you could hide your entire army and just lob an army of floating testicles of doom at your enemy
    and you can choose between 3 different flavors of spore mines so some flexibility
    living ammo also used to be a thing in 3d i think, the shot missing, but then the beetle you shot gets up and crawls up your boots and starts nomming, not sure why its when not moved tho, especially since almost all nid guns are assault
    old one eye for everyone !!! yay more one-eyed goodness!
    :/ but the unique zoantrope that took a bite out of the eldar death god is no more, retconned to death :.c
    join the hive, you know you want to :D NOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM!!
    best battlecry!
    quite normal that nid players are happy with it, first time in 4 editions that they have been viable at all
    its not surprising you didnt fight nids in a long time

      spaghetti formation ftw!!!
      long lines all leading back to the synapse creature x)
      but seriously, it would help
      but still the least useful of the buffs, the rework of synapse undoes a lot of the problems nids have had for many editions but this hive brings those back
      but then again, no templates anymore so its not as bad as it was in 5th
      its worth playing nids again, so thats awesome

    • @Papahoodoo
      @Papahoodoo 7 років тому +1

      Its just like synapse daisy chain tactic worked as long as one model in the unit gets it the whole unit gets it.

    Kronos probably doesn't "feel Tyranid" because it's mostly identical to Cadian's regimental trait, but slightly less powerful as Cadians can make it re-roll all misses with an order.

  • @azamonra
    @azamonra 7 років тому +1

    Synapse and Instinctive Behaviour have always been kind of off over the various editions but 7th was really bad. It didn't make the Tyranids unplayable but you did have to play them a certain way to get round the rules and be reasonably competitive for a game to be worth it. That you aren't forced into cover or not allowed to shoot or none of your unites start killing themselves would have been enough but I have to say this version seems like the best the rules have ever been.

    As an ork player, with a small nid force as well, this codex gets a big thumbs up from me. It's varied, it's fun, most of the units in it are useful without feeling broken, and stuff happens when you fight tyranids! Ork on tyranid battles are always action filled and bloody

  • @simonknibbs5867
    @simonknibbs5867 7 років тому

    Marketlights too can remove the benefit of cover, so another one to be confirmed. Re-rolling 1's makes them about 1/6th more effective assuming BS 4+. It is really more for weapon beasts or Guard on the back line.

    Jormungandr: (your-mun-gond-er) it is the original Old Norse name for the Midgard Serpent. Tyranid hive fleets are named after various beasts and monsters of legends; this one comes from the Vikings.

    The more videos of yours I watch, the more I want to get into 40k. After watching this video and some quick research I see some vague parallels between the Tyranids and the Zerg from StarCraft: my favorite faction to play both from the straight-forward rushing to the"Ew, that's gross looking. I like it." weird factor. Thank you for making these videos!

    I don't play WH40K (since a few games using the v1 ruleset in the 80s... and I remember the White Dwarf that introduced Genestealers. I'd bought it for something else) but it all seems consistent with Tyranid lore which is basically "eat the face off the nearest non-Tyranid lifeform to you," hehe.

Im just wondering about custom built hive fleets. Can we just pick any of the hive fleet adaptations before the battle.

    As a traditional dark angel player (non-primaris) i'm getting very concerned with this kind of thing. Dangels are going to get smashed to bits by virtually everyone at this rate. Can't say i'm overly impressed. Our codex had better have some op stuff or our armies will be essentially useless.

    It’s pretty clear they lose cover. If you are given something. And someone always takes it from you then you lose it. You do not constantly have it.
    They start with cover. Then the other person takes it away. So it’s an even playing field.
    Idk I think it’s clear.

  • @thatfrenchguy9140
    @thatfrenchguy9140 7 років тому

    Jormundgander counts as being in cover. Imperial fists simply are unaffected by cover. There's no interpretation problem in there.
    Universal cover on something with so many models is brutal. I'm kinda glad it gets hard countered by some elite armies who can't shoot as much and need these shots to count.

    Your right. It feels like spacemarines always come out first. Than we get hyped for them .but then the next codexes come out n they more creative and way better and your scatching your head thinking how do they ever win. Then your waiting for the other chapters to come out n theyre dissappointing too. Like why does samuels sword better than azreals? Makes no sense.

    The stratagem for Kronos sounds interesting! Because some tyranid units, for example the tyrannofex, can fire twice if they didn't move in the movement phase, and I think the exocrine does too.. (I don't have the index on me at the moment..)

    I think the issue with reoccurring legion/chapter/craftworld traits has more to do with 8th edition. Since everything has been more or less simplified GW has less to work with. For better or for worse they brought this on themselves.

    It’s this type of thing that lets me have hope that when it is the Orks turn for a codex it’s going to be quite choice! They have been so underwhelming for so long. I guess that makes sense. Now that I think about it, I do remember in one of the Ultramarine novels a character mentions that one genetic poison tailored against a Hive Fleet would not work on other Hive Fleets due to divergent genetics.

      each hive is slightly different
      its a form of constant evolution, it evolves down a certain path and then the hives fight each other to find the most efficient
      its a part of the constant strive for biological perfection and the natural evolution that is a core part of tyranids
      not that anyone fighting them would notice, if you see one horizon covered in hormagaunts then you have basically seen all
      ... wonder if the swarm lord will have rules letting you combine hive traits

      femnids =/= Tyranids...no idea how this shitty # became a thing, tyranids or any 40k faction infact has nothing to do with real life extremist feminist nutjobs...if anything they are closest to tau...

      Orkan they more like a Genestealer cult, infiltrate, infest, corrupt, then take over forcing everything to be about them until its totally destroyed,
      Looks at any thing they have targeted e.g. comics, magic, RPG' like dnd, metal, atheist+
      Take over the press, tell us we all bad, and we should do as they say, then move it onto only things they are interested in. Then the fan base dies.

      Dude im against extremist 3rd wave feminists and im aware what they are sadly capable to do, but im also against this stupid nonsensical #, that ridicules tyranids for no reason at all.
      "infiltrate, infest, corrupt, then take over forcing everything to be about them until its totally destroyed" Thats more fitting for Chaos anyway, perverting something to a shitty version that lost everything that was good about something before.
      Even worse this # is already misused, this video has nothing to do extremist feminists and still there is this stupid nonrelated # in a video about Tyranids.

      Orkan :D I was having fun, but its all serious now?
      The silyness of a #tag or not to be the silyness of a #tag that is the question! Whether 'tis nobler on twitter to suffer. The slings and bolt rounds of outrage, or take words against a sea of wrong think. And by opposing end them.
