    I've read the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th editions. Own them all. These are the most valuable books I've ever read as a cross country and track & field coach.

      I agree! I haven't read the 1st and 2nd edition though. What's different in the 2nd? Is it worth getting?

    I agree the Jack Daniels approach is amazing for people who want a precision guide to train by & not perceived effort or guess effort. You need to read the book at least twice IMO, then put chapter, section tags / markers in for the areas relevant to your current training & then adjust those tags / markers in the book to match your next challenge. When stuck or in a rut, re-read the book, it will give you everything you need to get back on it or give you the answers to why something is not working. Jack Daniels is a mindset and might not be for everyone, especially those who do not like a regimen approach. It has been a game changer for me, I will be forever grateful for the effort that went into making this book, it previous revisions & the VDOT system. It is a legacy of a Masters Coach who obviously cared for athletes then & now & who clearly understood the behaviours of those athletes & know's from his experience what is required to get it done.

    Does the english version uses km or miles? I'm asking it because I can't find this book in BR portuguese at this moment. Thank you!

    Suggest having 1st and this edition ( dont buy kindle version, paperback is a better choice) both and in addition Pfitzingers Faster road racing latest version. As some usefull information regarding tempo runs was ommited in latest release unfortunately. But training plans and intensities are way more human in latest version compared to 1st. Despite many many advantages and highly structured training plans Daniels book lacks of tapering and recovering information as well as some tips for masters runners - this could be found in Pfitzingers Faster road racing.

    Hello there. I was wonder how you found the vdot coaching stuff. I’m on doing my course mostly as I hope it helps me learn a bit more. I was wondering if many people sign up to coached training plans from it too. Thanks.

      Hey! I use the VDOT platform for all my coaching clients and training plans that I build, and I find it very effective!

    Does the 4th edition include half marathon plans? Because you mentioned there's a chapter of 15k and 30k plans.

      It does not include specific half marathon plans like the 3rd edition did. The chapter applies to ALL distances between 15K and 30K, since the physiological demands of these durations of racing are very similar and thus trained in a similar way. The program though, is a bit different that the others. It's a simple 14 day cycle that is repeated as long as needed, and a race week. He calls it "Alien Training" for some reason!

    If you liked the book so much, then why didn't you buy it with your own goddam money???

    • @LoneEndurance
      @LoneEndurance  2 роки тому +11

      I bought it with my time instead of my money. I invested time into creating a video for the publisher and exchanged that time for the book. So technically, I did buy it. It's how time and money works on a fundamental level.
