    Man, this is a revelation. With Reaper’s new support of LV2 plugins, one can now MIDI-track pitches for free in Reaper! I still love ReaTune, but this is a nice addition to the toolkit.

    Another awesome lesson song and another awesome lesson. I love singing into a tuner to work on my pitch, and it turns out the GXTuner plugin has midi output, so you can also trigger instruments, and have THEM tell your ears how off you are. It's humbling most of the time, but occasionally it sounds freaking awesome.

    • @unfa00
      @unfa00  3 роки тому

      Nice idea! I didn't know GX Tuner has MIDI out! That's like the next step - it'd be sonic pitch training, as opposed to visual. I should try that. I guess two in tandem would work best. I prefer x42-Autotune to a guitar tuner as the keyboard display gives me a better context.

    Hi Unfa, thanks for your demo. In my experience this plugin is very useful in monitoring and correcting bass notes that are not spot, caused by to powerful hitting the bass string or incorrect intunated bass guitar (notes played high on the neck). For lead singing it is not very useful in my opinion, especially in an automated mode. Sometimes manually correcting a single spots. As you already mentionded, for monitoring the quality of the vocals it is a helpful tool. Much better though just record the lead vocals half a dozen times (or more) in one singing session of course, so you can choose the best parts. That is far less frustrating and more helpful in my humble opinion.

    • @unfa00
      @unfa00  3 роки тому

      Thanks! Yes, Comping best vocal takes is definitely a better option if quality is a priority, and time and skills are plenty. If the vocalist can't get a good take though or you don't have time to record 12 takes and there just minor issues, it can be very useful.

    Nice tutorial! The only thing that's keeping me from using these two regularly (x42/Autotalent) is because of the problems you brought up here.
    To anyone looking for an alternative while x42 finds the time to implement some formant corrections, I highly recommend the freemium "Graillon 2" for use in Ardour. It works wonders and is a great way to address formants when x42 just doesn't get you where you want. Happy recording!

    In renaissance polyphony, a steady tonic is maintained, and intervals are often made more pure than in more equal temperaments. In other words, maybe it would be more useful to start off from a meantone temperament default tuning, and edit out the exceptions. Some pitches are context sensitive.

I haven't tried it yet, but it seems to be joining the best of both Autotalent and x42-Autotune minus the awesome user interface of the latter. Maybe someone could mash all of these together and come up with the ultimate Open Source Autotune plugin?

    Is it possible to record a midi-track with x42-autotune's "suggestions" for me to adjust afterwards? I've tried adding a midi output to x42-autotune and set it as input to ACE Fluid Synth but it didn't recognize any notes when recording.

    • @unfa00
      @unfa00  3 роки тому

      I am not sure I'd x42-Autotune produces a MIDI output. I think there are some either plugins that do though. Note that you can automate x42-Autotune's parameters to tweak the results. You can even add vibrato and pitch bends by automating the tune dial (IIRC the name correctly).

      this being said... in the commercial music realm autotune / pitch correction seems to be the norm, even when it can make some singers sound worse ... sad state of affairs in the industry in my opinion, but when the trend gains steam and you want to sell you often have to follow the trend or people might not want to buy your music :( .
