I didn't make this connection until seeing Coco, but at the end of the scene with this song, the bull dissolves into the marigold petals, and Manolo catches one. The bull gave him its blessing... Knowing this makes the whole scene even more amazing to me.

He's apologizing to a bull.. Which is really beautiful, and it is heartbreaking to see the shock from the others. They never would of done that, seeing that shock of Monolo caring for an animal shocked them which hurt me.. That bull had a right to live, we were not bred to fight. We were bred to live, and make the world better. Monolo really helped his town and family see that.

To be honest I wasn't really interested in the movie before. I've watched it for the first time just today, when I saw my family watching it on TV, and so I decided to join them. I'm angry at myself now. "Book of Life" is one of the best animated movies I've watched in my life. Truly amazing and with very important lessons to remember. I'm in love with it. Especially this song ♡

at first, I thought the same way, but I was little and didn't understand the meaning behind this movie. I thought it was good but didn't have any hype or anything. But I watched it again now a teenager fully aware of reality and I understand very well the meaning behind this movie. Truly Beautiful. I'm not Mexican, I am Hispanic. But I respect their culture.
ehh. that happens. you're not the only one here. I remember watching something that I didn't like until a few years later.
From what I had learned, to the director of this movie, this scene was the most important for two reasons:
One: This was not only an apology to the bulls that have been killed by the Sanchez family, it's also a long overdue apology to all bulls that have been killed by mankind, and that's understandable.
Two: This is Manolo's way of apologizing to his father, Carlos. He loves his family with all his heart, like us all, but he's bravely admitting he's just not like them, all he wants to do is follow his dream and anything else he wants, such as being with the love of his life.
THAT is something we can all understand and agree on, regardless of some idiots out there who act or think that stuff like that is nothing but weakness. Those who say or think any of that nonsense, THEY are the real weak ones! And if they don't like it, then they'll just have to DEAL WITH IT!

Life has no inherent value, and it's ending is just another day, no requirement to kill or deserving to be killed, it's all a coincidence, you shouldn't try to apply meaning to it when dealing with stuff like this

Damn that hits hard. There's just so much violence nowadays and it's so normalized that my sense of humour is too dark and I find death amusing. This isn't normal and it shouldn't be. The sad part is that the senseless killing won't end and will most likely just get worse, and the generations after me are going to be even more fucked up than me because of it.
This song is one that can make me sad and calm in any scenario. It's a horrible situation, and he truly apologizes for it. He didn't kill any of them, he never wanted to, and he apologized for all the death.

i am touched by this song because the fact he is asking the bull for forgiveness for the senseless killing in bull fights that is an amusement in some country's, i am surprise that this animated movie has a song that has a deep meaning, and songs like this help me realize that we have to show mercy and ask for forgiveness even though its an animal, anything that its alive has feelings.
